While there are so many reasons to visit Ubud, we give you, in this video, our favorite ones. Ubud is a mountain town an hour North from Denpasar, at the foot of the volcano called Agung and tucked among the rice paddies. It's full of unique culture, art, shopping, food, and outdoor adventure. If you are going to Bali, you do not want to miss Ubud! It's worth at least a few days!

NEW TO OUR CHANNEL?
We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.
So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too!
As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures!

Ubud is one of our favorite places to visit when we are in Bali.
That says a lot for us because it is not located on the ocean.
It is actually in the mountains and surrounded by rice paddies.
The high altitude makes it a bit cooler than the rest of the
island. There are a bunch of reasons why we go back but the main ones are
the unique culture, amazing food, one-of-a-kind boutiques located on
small quaint streets that have beautiful textiles,
amazing silver jewelry and wood carvings and lastly the breathtaking hiking and
biking in and around the rice fields. This trip
we stayed in a villa in the rice paddies and you will see in
the video that the only way in was on foot or on the back of a scooter.
We just happened to be in Ubud during this really
interesting singing bird competition. The owners from all around Bali bring
their prize pets to the fairground and basically
the prettiest chirpers earn colored flags.
The owners model the desired bird melody through whistles and phone apps.
Much pride and prize money rides on the success
of the contestants. We loved how everyone took the competition so serious
including the referees.
Check out the vintage looking referee uniforms.
They're pretty cool.
One of our favorite hikes is called the Kampuan Ridge
Walk. For several hours the path meanders on a ridge
elevated between two huge valleys. The views are amazing
as are the rice paddies and nature we encounter along the route.
Besides hiking we always go on a bike trip when we're in Ubud
which starts at the top of a feisty volcano.
You know the one that's been causing all the problems lately
and thankfully we ride downhill all the way to Ubud.
We pass through the most beautiful traditional Hindu villages
and rice paddies and stop at local temples along the way to learn about
the Balinese traditions. On this particular day
one town was preparing for a big festival so we got to see the temple
fully decorated and the men of the village receiving
their family festival assignments.
As we pass through one particular village some of the women were drying
out the rice harvest on the street. Each family claims a portion of the pavement
and spreads their rice to dry in the sun. Notice that the motorists respect the
process and stay off the rice as they drive
through the village. In order to gain bike passage through one of the villages
this lady puts my wife to work and you know I have to say she does a really
good job.
On this trip we finally got to see the famous
Wow did I just say that? And they do not disappoint.
Wow it was exhausting to walk through the terrace
and we were drenched after just a couple hours but it was well worth the visit.
One of us almost got hit in the head with a falling
coconut. Man that would have been quite an exaggerated moment wouldn't it?
As you can see Ubud is a magical place not to be missed
and we hope to see you there sometime soon. Thanks for watching this video
we would greatly appreciate it if you could subscribe to our channel
