Come with me as we check out Let's Eat to Live on Chicago's South Side. They serve breakfast and
also have a really nice lunch and dinner menu. The decor displays black excellence. I ordered
the Jamaican beef patty and I was pleasantly surprised to receive four mini ones instead
of one big one and let me tell you it was perfect. The dough was flaky and chewy. The filling was
seasoned to perfection and it was stuffed. I really enjoyed this beef patty. For my lunch,
I ordered the red snapper excaviche, some macaroni and cheese. I ordered the coconut rice,
brussel sprouts and greens with smoked salmon. Initially, I was a little disappointed because
I anticipated a whole snapper because it was pictured on the menu but let me tell you this
snapper was delicious. It was meaty. It was flaky. You can taste the seasonings, the allspice,
the garlic, the sauce that came along with it was on point. Now I wanted to taste it with the rice.
The rice was nice and fluffy and had a hint of coconut, lightly sweetened. It was absolutely
scrumptious. It was important for me to taste the rice with the fish because it's giving Caribbean
vibes and let me tell you the sweet coconut fluffy rice along with the nicely spiced fish
went together perfectly. It's time to get into this mac and cheese. It came out smoking hot,
very cheesy, very creamy. It was seasoned perfectly. You can taste the salt, the pepper,
all the flavor that goes into mac and cheese. This delivered. This mac and cheese was made with
eggs. If you're someone who likes egg in your mac and cheese, this mac and cheese is for you.
I prefer mine not with egg because it gives it a creamier texture but still this mac and cheese
was on point. I had to taste it along with the fish to see what that bite was talking about
and the bite did not disappoint. I absolutely love this food. All right, let's get onto these
brussel sprouts. When they came to the table, you could smell the garlic and the peppers. It was
very fragrant. I like my brussel sprouts crispy with a little texture. These seem to be boiled
and gave more of a cabbage-like texture to them. Let's get into these greens. I've never had greens
with smoked salmon. The first bite tastes like home. These greens were delicious and you know
the test is you got to eat it with the mac and cheese and get that unique flavor combination.
They did not disappoint. Perfect texture, perfect flavor. If you don't know about this hot sauce,
I'm not going to even explain it to you. You just have to know to know. Now the final test to eating
food like this is to put every single item in your mouth at one time and to see if all the flavors
and textures go well together to form that perfect bite. And let me tell you, they did.
Everything together was absolutely scrumptious. I checked out some of the customers. They love
their food. This lady had some lamb chops. This gentleman had the salmon salad. The food was
delicious. It was so delicious. I asked to speak to the owners and here they are. I spent a total
of $46.90. That's including tip. Considering how well prepared the food was, how tasty and flavorful
it was, the great customer service and ambiance, Let's Eat to Live gets a 9 out of 10. I definitely
recommend.
