AI GeneratedThe New England Patriots have updated their 53-man roster and practice squad following cut-down day. The team claimed linebacker Darius Mouassaou and tight end Cameron Latu, while making several additions and omissions to their practice squad as they finalize their preseason roster.
The New England Patriots have made some major roster moves the day after 53-man cut down day,
signing two players to their active 53-man roster, which of course has a corresponding move to it,
plus an update on how the practice squad is shaping out for Elliot Wolfe's team,
and so much more that you're not going to miss. So make sure you hit that subscribe button for
all the news today on the New England Patriots. This is just going to be one of multiple videos
today. We've also got practice squad signings and the full 16 or 17-man practice squad deciding
if they use that international pathway program player later on. But they're going to have a
practice squad fully announced hopefully by the end of the day, so we'll have a video on that.
But for now, they made two signings to their 53-man roster after roster cut down day. Adam
Schefter had it first. The Patriots have claimed tight end Cameron Latu from the Eagles and
linebacker Darius Mouassaou from the Giants. So a linebacker and a tight end, and a corresponding
move for one of them at least is K.J. Britt, a linebacker who kind of gets bumped off by
Manasau as we'll have Britt now not on the active roster. So again, we'll have to kind of update
that 53-man roster depth chart and probably do that later on the day because there's going to
be some more moves potentially. But we're going to focus on the two signings here, the linebacker
from the Giants and the tight end from the Eagles. A couple of different things to go on with that,
but let's start with the linebacker who is effectively kicking off K.J. Britt from this team
and Mouassaou. Darius Mouassaou here, 12 games play, 51 tackles. He had one sack this most
recent year. I'm pretty sure that's Marcus Mariota though on the screen, but either way,
Mouassaou here, 12 games, 51 tackles. He had one sack, nothing really crazy for him in his two
seasons as a New York Giant. He had a total of 106 tackles, so pretty solid numbers in just 27
games. The PFF grades were just okay, so that's why the Patriots probably ended up getting him,
but still a solid signing. And somebody of the Patriots obviously wanted, again, when you have
these waiver wire additions, usually the guys that you end up bringing in are people that you have
seen in the past, whether that be you wanted to draft them, whether it be you saw them in a
preseason game and liked what they had. And I mean, hey, you played the Eagles, so that's where
Cameron Latu could have come. Speaking of Latu, his most productive NFL season was his most recent
one with the Philadelphia Eagles. He did have just a couple of receptions for a couple of yards, but
he did play with the Alabama Crimson Tide in his collegiate career. 2021, he had eight touchdowns,
four in 2022, helping Alabama reach the championship that year. What was crazy,
I saw highlights, it was Bryce Young thrown on the football. I'm like, okay,
yeah, that's a long time ago. He actually was originally drafted by the, I guess, by the 49ers,
so that was kind of interesting. Now, while he spent very little time with the 49ers,
he actually did catch a touchdown in one of his first preseason games with the team, so
of course, that's something to hold on to, but definitely interesting. I think these are two
positions that, especially with the release of KJ Britt, makes sense. The tight end room,
I'm really high on Eli Reridon. Maybe that's naive of me, but I do think he can be a really
big piece here. Of course, Tanner Arkin, the UDFA, making the cut here as well. I'm hopeful
that we can see Latu in some ways. You know, jumping here, he might be just a blocking option,
truly. I know sometimes, especially with these late signings, they're trying to find some extra
blocking, whether that means they don't trust Arkin or Reridon to be an effective blocker when
Henry is out. That could be the case. It also could be that they like what they saw from him
against the Eagles when they faced off in this year's preseason, so ultimately, we'll have to
update, of course, them on the 53-man roster, but those are the two signings the New England
Patriots made. Again, a tight end, Cameron Latu from the Eagles and a linebacker, Darius Mossall
from the Giants. A couple other notes as we get closer and closer to the practice squad release,
and I have a couple names that have already been signed. We do have some notes on who will not
sign to the practice squad. According to Mark Daniels, things can change quickly, but among
players not expected to sign back with the Patriots practice squad, per source, are offensive
guard Mekhi Buckner, outside linebacker Jesse Lucchetta, and wide receiver Nick DiGennaro.
Now, I'm right here with Mark Daniels. I thought DiGennaro had a chance. In fact, yesterday on our
53-man roster breakdown video, I was fully in the message that, hey, this is going to be a guy who
is going to come back. He's going to be able and probably get on the practice squad and probably
make a couple of appearances for the Patriots, but it seems like the Patriots don't have that
interest. So, with three players now out, of course, they're going to have to try and figure
out what they want to do with that practice squad, but it is obviously some names to watch out for.
We do have this. They're going to sign Hassan Haskins to the practice squad, a guy who had
20 carries for 69 yards this preseason for the New England Patriots. Now he makes his way on
to the Patriots practice squad. Again, it's going to be 16 people on the practice squad.
If they have an international player, it'll be 17. We'll have a full video on the entire
practice squad once it's officially released, probably later on in the evening tonight, if not
by tomorrow morning, but I bet you we'll have a video of at least, you know, most of the practice
squad tonight. Interesting enough, though, we do have some other guys who we do know that are going
to be entering the practice squad and have already kind of showed us what we can kind of expect.
Now, of course, we're going to get new signings pretty much all day, but Doug Kyde had another
one pretty much right away after the Hassan Haskins signing that Jeremiah Farms Jr.
is going to be on the practice squad, a guy who had been with the Patriots for the past couple
years, a guy who I probably expected to be back just because of the familiarity with the organization
and the roster. Obviously excited to see him. And with the practice squad, there's a multitude
of different ways to get on it. One is being familiar with the organization. Two is being
really a flexible guy. Farms Jr. has done that tenfold throughout his tenure as a New England
Patriot. So I'm very happy for him and excited to see him back on the roster.
Now, as for the two signings, got some notes on them from Carlos Lopez as well.
Massas, 25 years old. He was a sixth round pick by the Giants in 2024 and started 18 games with
the past two seasons, appeared in officially 27, has recorded 100 plus tackles, one sack and one
reception. Latu is a former third round pick out of Alabama who spent last season with the Eagles,
appearing in 15 games. Titans are always interesting to me because Eli Riverdon is
a third round pick. And if he was a guy, a third round pick, by the way, to the Niners,
not the Eagles, never played a game in the regular season. And if Eli Riverdon doesn't
play a game in the regular season for the Patriots, that'd be a massive, massive failure.
So the fact is, it's just Titans are always such a weird thing. I mean, heck, the other Eli on the
roster for the Eagles is somebody who's not doing very well. But we'll kind of keep an eye on both
these guys. They are, again, on the 53-man roster. KJ Britt is one of the guys who was going to be
off the roster. We'll have another move probably made to open up that other spot for Cameron
Latu. I don't think it's going to be Tanner Arkin. I would have to think they're just going to keep
four Titans. Maybe they cut Tanner Arkin, try and get him on the practice squad. I don't know,
but that's what we'll find out later on. A couple of final notes here from Mark Daniels on a couple
of these players. Latu, third round pick again in 2023, 15 games, and he was a core special teamer.
Again, what did I say about the practice squad, or even making the roster late? It's being able
to be flexible. He made 11 tackles and blocked a punt last year on the practice squad. So again,
being able to be put in a different position, a different perspective, it's helped him for sure.
Now, we do have one final thing before we let you go on the side. We do have one more signing,
I guess I should say. Linebacker Riley Wilson is also going to be on the practice squad for
the New England Patriots. So right now, we've got officially three guys on the practice squad.
Riley Wilson, Hassan Haskins, and Jeremiah Farms Jr. Again, 16 players are how many
are going to be on that official practice squad once it's all said and done. So we'll wait,
we'll see what ends up being the final 13 people, 14 people obviously with the International Pathway
Program player. Right now though, two signings again, Darius Mansaw, Cameron Latu. Let us know
what you think about these signings down below in the comment section. We'll have a video later on
talking about the full practice squad development and what the 16 players look like. For now guys,
we appreciate you watching. Peace out.
