Scottie Scheffler Ends the PGA Tour Player of the Year Debate
Aug 31, 2026
So it turns out the PGA Tour Player of the Year race wasn't really a bunch of a race
at all.
Scotty Scheffler may have allowed others to get a lead, but in the end the world number
one easily sprinted past everyone at the finish line.
Scheffler's Sunday 66 allowed him to win the Tour Championship by three shots and claim
yet another FedExCup title.
It now seems to be a lock to win the Jack Nicklaus Award as the PGA Tour's Player of
the Year for a staggering fifth straight season.
At this point, Scotty's going to have to add an entire wing to his house just to fit
all his trophies.
Scheffler only won three tournaments this season and somehow didn't win a major, but
it's his stats that show just how well he played throughout 2026.
The 30-year-old led the Tour in more than 20 statistical categories, from scoring average
at a ridiculous 67.86 to strokes gained total at 2.249, nearly doubling up everyone else.
I was hoping to list them all here, but we don't have all day.
Anyway, in terms of prize money, the gap grew even larger as Scotty broke his own record
with more than $30 million in official money this season to pass Tiger Woods and take the
top spot on the Tour's career money list.
Shout out to Tiger, by the way, for holding that spot for more than a quarter century.
But even he might not be as flush with cash as Scotty these days, because that $30 million
doesn't even include the $23 million FedExCup bonus Scotty also received.
In other words, it's going to be an extra special Christmas for young Bennett and Remy
this year.
And if Scotty does decide to add an extension to the house, let's just say he won't need
to finance it.
