The discussion also covers the San Antonio Spurs' roster improvements and their projected standing in a highly competitive Western Conference for the upcoming season.
This is just getting ridiculous at this point as BAM out of bio is set to gonna mock trade
for none other than our Stefan Castle and the San Antonio Spurs have a very difficult
time ahead of them this coming season.
It's broken down in an article and we are going to discuss that here on Spurs Digest
with your host Kingdom Warner and honestly guys let's just get right underway with this
because NBA mock trade pairs Wembley with a three-time All-Star in a blockbuster move
and I completely understand like it's August.
It's late August.
Jeremy Stillhand's not playing in Eurobasket.
We haven't had too too many Eurobasket games as of this moment in time things are just
getting started there.
I get it.
It's the slog of the offseason and we they just think and now it's like let's put our
creative caps on and sometimes it's cool in their hypotheticals and they're good to
conversation it's good to talk about and then sometimes it's ridiculous and this is one
of those times or it's like with what we've done why but let's break it down and let's
get into it right here Spurs are looking to build their future with round Wembley 21 year
old high expectations obviously 7-3 alien we know what Wembley is rare opportunity to
build a championship contender around Wembley as soon as possible because the assets that
they have bleacher reports Zach Buckley created a trade proposal best asset Castle sending
him to Miami exchange for one of the best defenders in the NBA and that's correct you've
got BAM out of bio coming to the San Antonio Spurs for Stefan Castle Devin Vassell a 2028
first-round pick from either San Antonio or Boston whatever team it has the better
pick and then the 20 the 2030 first that's either San Antonio Dallas or Minnesota so
essentially we're giving up a 20 the 28 pick really should be 24 to 30 because the Spurs
should be contending at that point in the Celtics possibly could be contending again
they should have Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum still within their prime so they those those
picks shouldn't be great the 2031 though we don't know what Dallas is gonna look like
we don't know what Minnesota's gonna look like hey you would think oh they're gonna
have and they're gonna have Cooper flag we don't know that we absolutely don't know that
there have been we thought the Mavs would have Luca at this point they don't and all
we're getting back is BAM I say all we're getting back because we're getting rid of
Stefan Castle and Devin Vassell what does that do for our team now we have De'Aaron
Fox who is going to be the lead point guard of course that really slides Dylan Harper
into that starting number two which is cool and all but but now we just lost a bunch of
defensive edge Stefan Castle the point of having him on the roster is to have the best
perimeter defend like the guy who can guard the best perimeter players because he's gonna
be one of the best perimeter defenders in the league with the athleticism with the want
to with the skill quickness everything about him and we already have Wembley and I would
get it we don't but we don't need bigs anymore we address that we got Kelly Olenek we got
Luke Cornett we didn't need and we have Jeremy Sohan we didn't need Wembley to be or we don't
need BAM to be there anymore because we really just needed depth behind Wembley and in this
trade why are you getting rid of Devin Vassell why aren't you getting rid of Jeremy Sohan now
Jeremy Sohan is gonna have to play a weird three because you're gonna have BAM in Wembley lineups
but then you're also gonna have BAM at the five then you're gonna have Cornett at the five BAM at
the four like Jeremy Sohan is gonna have to play a weird tween three four and he doesn't have the
shooting prowess to do that at the moment in time maybe he improved but at the moment he doesn't
have that you would trade Stefan Castle you wouldn't trade Stefan Castle anyways but if you
were going to trade Stefan Castle take out Vassell and put in Sohan we now would need the scoring
punch from Vassell that just all that just doesn't make sense to me with the Spurs do this trade I
was gonna even go through all this they wouldn't do the trade would you do the trade would you
trade Stefan Castle and Devin Vassell for BAM out of bio I understand that BAM is one of the most
versatile bigs in the game he's a great defender he has a he has a pull-up game he has a pull-up
midi game I don't make it sound like he has one of the KD game but he has a mid-range jump shot
he has a post fade he has some post moves I understand what that BAM in Wembley could be
if you're trying to say okay let me trade Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sohan maybe my ears perk up a
bit but Stefan Castle and Devin Vassell and now we just have Jeremy Sohan who's in that
Keldon Johnson role of we don't really know how we're gonna use him but he's good don't like it
at all let me know what you think but NBA insiders inadvertently predict a very tough road for the
San Antonio Spurs this got this see these are the things in the offseason that get me interested
these are the things that kind of get my mind percolating and kind of things moving and I
want to discuss it here real quick the San Antonio Spurs relish in what was one of the best off
seasons in the entire NBA Dylan Harper Carter Bryant Luke Cornett Kelly Olenek I mean we didn't
have to get rid of anybody we still have Devin Vassell we still have Keldon Johnson we still
have our picks like so of course top tier bench with also a very good starting five with a superstar
we obviously signed De'Aaron Fox as well we did that in the offseason should state that in there
as well but that's not a write-in for prosperity of course I mean with immense upgrades women expect
the Spurs would advance past the 13th seed finished yeah of course we think that they're
gonna be much better than the 13th seed there are teams that are for sure worse especially on paper
than them but not because the lack of juice out of the squad but historically the Great Western
Conference is shaping up to set the teams absolutely loaded and last year where many
teams expected a fall to make room for the Spurs that's what's gonna be someone's gonna have to
take a step back and you also have to think the Pelicans took a step back maybe they could take
a step forward with the talent that they have but I do think the Spurs are going to be in an
advantageous position this year because they have such a new young new talent and they have there's
an enthusiasm around the San Antonio Spurs now that we have in a solidified Mitch Johnson that's
your head coach solidified De'Aaron Fox is healthy Victor Wiminyama is healthy Sohan's healthy
Vassell's healthy all of them are coming in to the offseason healthy and I know Sohan's missing a
little bit of time from Eurobasket but he should be a-okay to get into full training camp for the
Spurs for my speculation and from what I've seen out there so far I'm not a doctor so I can't be
quoted but he should it looks like he should be fine for that he's just missing Eurobasket but
the Spurs will have to battle it out for a lot of these playing teams but form a lot of teams
Suns Pelicans and Trailblazers try to make the play in tournament and I brought this up here and
I wanted to kind of showcase it if it's hard to see I apologize for that but OKC is still gonna
be there Houston they just got Kevin Durant it's gonna be there you've got Luka in LA with LeBron
and Austin Reeves they're going to be formidable the Denver Nuggets had one of the best off seasons
with getting Cam Johnson someone that we have talked about a lot who would have benefited us
as well they're gonna be good the Clippers are still they're running their run DMC kind of trying
to be old again Timberwolves we've been to the Western Conference Finals back-to-back years the
Warriors have made moves the Grizzlies still have John Moran and Jaron Jackson jr. I go through all
these teams because that's the top eight we're expecting somebody out of that top eight for us
to sneak up there to get to the six we're expecting some teams to fall maybe the Clippers because
they're old maybe the Warriors because they get injured you never know some of those teams could
get hurt and some of those teams that are higher may start to fall down a little bit we don't know
Dallas Mavericks it could be interesting if you do have Anthony Davis and Cooper Flagg and Kyrie
just started practicing today then you've got the Sacramento Kings I don't think they're gonna be
great I think really where it stops is we should be for sure top 10 team you don't know what one
of those smaller lower teams are gonna do Utah shouldn't be Portland shouldn't be but what about
the Pelicans what if the Suns try to do something crazy I don't know we should be within that top
10 firmly but it could get a little dicey in the seven to ten range and if one of these teams
actually takes a leap because there's typically a team that we don't expect that takes the leap
every year and the Spurs are one of the teams that we do expect and I expect them to take the leap I
really think 44 wins is going to be kind of their baseline of success obviously if they lose more
than that I don't think it's a successful season unless they get to the play in still get to the
playoffs and can make some noise there but I think for a regular season standpoint alone 44 wins is
going to be the base of success and then everything up there is only going to add to that success but
again on this let me know what you guys think do you think you 44 is that baseline of success or
do you think they can even get to 500 team in that loaded Western Conference seven games better than
they were last year when they won 34 instead of going to 41 this year maybe that feels like a step
in the right direction or do you think that a playoff berth solidifies that step in the right
direction but this will do it for Spurs die just let me know in the comments about that and let me
know what you guys think about that BAM it's the fun castles we need to get him out of trade talks
like at some point guys we're not getting rid of him he just won Rookie of the Year he's in your
anything but just be a consummate pro on the court the only way we're trading him is if you're like
hey let me dangle superstars in front of them it's like Anthony Edwards came available it's like yeah
we might be able to move office the fun castle to get Anthony Edwards but I understand BAM is very
good but we don't need to give up all that especially if we're not gonna even construct
the roster the right way off a tangent again I saw apologize but Spurs digest here let me know what
you guys think about in the comments on both of those things we'll be seeing you guys tomorrow at
730 Eastern 630 central going live again me and Josh we have a lot to talk about and we're really
hopeful that we can get as many of you guys in there as possible because the more you guys present
yourself the more fun we have here and bring some questions bring a lot of stuff it's gonna be fun
but Spurs digest Keenan Warner here hope to see you guys tomorrow and we'll be seeing you guys very soon
