Don’t Open Your Expensive Bordeaux Yet

One of the biggest mistakes wine collectors make is opening expensive bottles too early.

Sometimes you simply want a mature Bordeaux that is already drinking beautifully, does not cost hundreds of dollars, and can be opened without hesitation over dinner with family or friends.

In this video, I compare two ready-to-drink Bordeaux wines from my own cellar:

2012 Château Tronquoy-Lalande from Saint-Estèphe
2015 Château Prieuré-Lichine from Margaux

One costs around US$40. The other around US$60. For mature Bordeaux, I think both offer exceptional value.

The 2012 vintage has quietly become one of my favourite Bordeaux vintages to drink today. Its Merlot-led wines often show silky tannins, approachable structure and plenty of charm.

Meanwhile, 2015 was an outstanding vintage for Margaux, producing fragrant, polished wines that combine generosity with elegance.

In this video, I discuss:
Why 2012 Bordeaux is drinking so well today
Why 2015 was such a successful vintage in Margaux
Château Tronquoy-Lalande vs Château Prieuré-Lichine
How differently these two wines taste
Food pairings for each bottle
Why I recently bought more of both

If you are looking for mature Bordeaux that is ready to open now, I hope this comparison helps you decide which style belongs in your cellar.
