Yilan Monster Village is a unique attraction combining fantasy, Japanese-style architecture, food, and souvenirs. According to legend, the giant “Chikui” once lived on an island overseas. After the island sank, he swam to the Lanyang Plain in Yilan. At first, Chikui lived peacefully with the local people, but conflicts eventually arose over natural disasters and food distribution. The villagers formed the "Lanyang Defense Team" and "Lanyang Food Bureau" to confront the giant, giving rise to a series of humorous local tales.
Today, the legend comes alive throughout the village, with wooden buildings, red torii gates, giant lanterns, and monster-themed decorations creating a whimsical Japanese atmosphere. The towering red Chikui holding a 70-centimeter-long is a favorite photo spot. Visitors can also enjoy freshly baked bread, roasted chicken, snacks, and creative souvenirs while discovering the fascinating story behind this playful attraction in Yilan.
