AI GeneratedFrankie V analyzes the Jets' first preseason game, praising rookie QB Cade Klubnik's \"gunslinger\" mentality while criticizing Coach Aaron Glenn for limiting his reps. He also discusses David Bailey's disruptive play on the edge, the team's strong run defense, and standout performances from players like Braylon Allen and Maury Bamba.
Hey, what's up everybody? Frankie V here, New York Post Sports and U Stadium. I want to give
a little breakdown as to what I saw last night in preseason game one. Some good, some bad,
nothing to overreact on. However, there's some things that I think this team, for it to get
to the next level, they have to address some of these things. So let me just get into that really
quick. Number one, Cade Klubnik looked really good last night. Now, I'm not going to overreact,
again, it's preseason, but the kid looked damn good. Before the game, it came out that Geno
Smith was dealing with some foot issue. Nobody really knows what that issue is, so that'll be
something to look at throughout the week. But Cade Klubnik came out and looked like he'd been
playing football forever, and he kind of has, by the way, but he just came out there. He's slinging
it, man. The one thing about Cade Klubnik that I really like is he is not afraid to throw the ball
in traffic. He is not afraid to take risks. He's not afraid to get the ball down the field. Cade
Klubnik is a gunslinger in a traditional sense, and we haven't really seen that from a quarterback
here in quite some time. And even when we got guys in that have the characteristics of being
gunslingers, we've always shortened the field on them. You're not going to be able to shorten the
field on Cade Klubnik. He kind of does what he does. He's that kind of confident quarterback,
that Texas kind of kid that he's going to get the ball out and he's going to get the ball out often.
Now, speaking about getting the ball out often, he didn't have an opportunity yesterday to get
into a high volume passing game because the coach took him out after two series. Aaron Glenn,
I don't understand the logic here. I under, now I, I do understand that Cade came in for Gino.
So Cade, I guess de facto takes the, the, the, the first team reps that the QB one's taking,
but Cade Klubnik's a rookie. He's QB two or he's competing for a backup quarterback spot.
He just got drafted. You're going to give him two series and seven attempts. I mean,
Brady Cook had more than double the attempts of, of Cade Klubnik. There was so much momentum going
on. He came in, hit Mason Taylor a few times, hit that nice dig route with Garrett. You're
feeling the good juju. A drive later that they settled with a field goal, a drive later,
he wasn't able to do much because Braylon Allen took that drive over and they had scored.
Bring him back out, bring him back out with the twos. He's been practicing with them.
I don't get the logic there. And what happens? All the good energy, all the momentum goes away.
Bailey Zappi comes in and throws a pick six. I mean, sometimes you just got to, I don't want to
say read the room, but got to understand that these are young guys that need reps. You only
have three preseason games. Haven't been practicing that much. Also with these new rules, let him
sling it. He wants to. Cade Klubnik, trust me, wants to go out there and throw it 50 times.
Should have done what they did with Carson Beck who had 19 attempts in that hall of fame game.
Have him play the first half. He technically only played a quarter.
I didn't like that because I just thought the kid's feeling good. The kids is seeing things.
He's not having issues seeing things on the field. Let him go back out there with the twos,
let things cook. Plus you'll get a better look at your wide receivers. Also,
you're going to have better targeted passes from Cade Klubnik than you will Brady cooker or Bailey
Zappi. Glenn came out and said, I just felt that he Klubnik had enough plays. I really wanted to
make sure I had a good shot of seeing all three of the quarterbacks. Listen, I don't want to
overreact. I don't want to be negative. There's a lot of time for that. We all know that in Jets
world, but I don't want to hear that. I don't want to see Brady cook or Bailey Zappi. I don't,
I have no interest in that. I want to see the rookie. Now, if you want to see the script,
he played four or five series and the script called from not throwing that many passes,
but they're scoring AKA that last drive. Okay. But he only played two series. He was feeling it.
Let him, let him get confidence in the NFL. Why stop a guy on his way to throwing for 200 yards?
I don't understand that to see Bailey Zappi and Brady cook. It's just, it's just,
I didn't want to say it's a stupid decision. It's a weird decision. It's just like
you want him to do well. I want him to do well. Everyone out there wants him, uh,
K club to do well. And you're like limiting that from happening basically. Or like
throwing a wrench into that for, for no reason. Cause there's no reason to see Brady cook and
Bailey Zappi. By the way, we went to Bailey Zappi, throws a pick six, comes back out there,
throws a pass little bit off center, but still should have been catchable by Arian Smith.
That's a tip ball that leads to an interception. You know,
it's deflating the whole, the, the, the stadium got deflated. The sidelines deflated. You had
so much good vibes and Juju with Kate club, Nick, and then you go to these guys and it's just,
it's, it's just done. It's, it's, it's, uh, you know, it's, it's just a bad decision by the head
coach. And, and, and I'm not going to harp more on that, but when you have Brady cook with 15
attempts, more than double Bailey Zappi had 10 attempts. Why is Kate club? Nick only throwing
seven passes in a preseason game where Gino was out. Now on the other side, there could be
something else here. So I'll play devil's advocate with myself. Maybe this Gino injuries, a little
bit concerning, just a tad bit. Maybe, maybe that foot, they got to look into it a little bit more.
So don't put your starter out there too long in Kate club. Nick could be,
could have been a, or they don't know what it is. So be conservative in the approach. Anyway,
I'll be honest. If it was me, I would have had him out for another two series. I probably would
have had him finished the half. That would have been me. I would have had him finished the half,
regardless of how the Gino situation look. If you want to win with this kid, he's going to
have to get NFL reps. He's got a ton of reps in college, give him the NFL reps. And clearly it
wasn't hindering him at all. Like he didn't seem like he was overwhelmed. So all right, next thing,
let's go to my guy, David Bailey. I know a lot of people have been talking about David Bailey,
some good, some bad. It seems like, listen, David Bailey at the end of the day is a disruptor.
He is going to want to get up the field and he's going to want to attack the quarterback.
That's what David Bailey does. So I see a lot of people now say, Oh, he's going too far out.
He got washed out. He didn't keep contained. Okay. Like, like I get it. Like, uh, I think it's
overblown the, that contained play that happens a lot in the NFL. I mean, go and watch TJ watt
clip by clip, go and watch miles Garrett clip by clip, Max Crosby, Von Miller, Daniel Hunter.
You're going to have plays like that. That's what edges do. They don't get home all the time.
Guy had, I think what eight plays. So eight plays, he actually got home basically once with,
with him running an inside stone with Will McDonald, just doing a straight rush on the
other side. He actually was there with the quarterback. He actually grabbed the quarterback's
leg. It wasn't a half sack, but it was, you know, he was there. He was disrupting. That's what he
does. So you're going to take the good with the bad. The bad is, yeah, he's going to get a little
wild. He's a little wild child sometimes in the way he plays. But if he didn't have that,
you're talking about what, like the, the, the, a perfect edge prospect. No, that's his.
That's where he gets a little bit crazy in his game, but it'll come with the good people. People
are like, Oh, he didn't have a sack. He played an eight. He played eight plays, but let me get a
sack. If you're going to sack every eight plays, you're going to, you're going to end up the game
with seven or eight sacks. I mean, come on. So, I mean, I don't, I understand people are like,
you know, didn't do what he did in camp. Yeah. I mean, no, one's going to do that. You're not
going to come into an NFL game with a proper script by their offensive coordinator. They
were chipping him by the way. Did you see that belly? I think didn't have two guys on him or
another guy looking at him, maybe one or two of those eight snaps they were chipping and they
knew he was in the game and that helps your defensive line out. That's going to help.
Will McDonald's going to get sacks. Juwan Briggs, those guys up front, Harrison Phillips,
they're going to get plays to be made because David Bailey's there. Teams are, teams are
keen in on him already. So yeah, he's going to look a little bit, you know, out of position at
times that's his game, but you're going to get the good with that. And not only on his end,
you're going to get the good with that from the other players on that D line.
But I thought the jets run defense was actually pretty good on the game. They had 25 carries the
nine yards, 25 carries for 69 yards. It's 2.8 yards a carry. Kudos to the jets front seven,
the coaches, Carl Dunbar, Aaron Glenn. Good job. Like that's what you want to see. I know it's
preseason, but those are just straight run fits. That's a good thing. Um, on our end,
we ran the ball. Okay. I thought Braylon Allen did, did quite well, showed his explosiveness
coming back from injury. I have four carries for 44 yards. That's 11 yards to carry. And I had a
31 yarder to, uh, to cap off that last Cade club, Nick drive for a touchdown. Um, Brees had a few
moments, but you know, wasn't all that involved. I thought Jamal Jamal Pritchett showed a little
bit that he's a baller. Um, I don't know if he's going to make the team, but I like kids that come
out there and just give it their all regardless of what you asked him to do. So he's that kind
of player. Quincy Skinner had a few nice place, kids, a talented receiver. You know, I don't know
if he's going to be able to make this roster or a roster this year, but if that kid keeps
working, that kid's got some, got, got some talent there. Um, I like what Mason Taylor did,
uh, on that first drive, I like him getting open. So I think this team, listen, this team has talent.
This team has a ton of talent. It's just, are the coaches going to be able to maximize that talent
and put these guys in a position to make plays score touchdowns or stop opposing teams from doing
so? Yeah. Um, on, uh, a few guys I, I, I circled, I thought Jordan Clark,
Ryan Clark's son, I thought played awesome. I mean, when guys pop, they pop, he was popped.
I saw him. Um, and then we got this guy, Maury Bamba. I mean, for past deflections in a game
is in insane for past deflections in a season, sometimes good for corners. He had them in a game
and one game. I don't know. I don't know much about this kid. I'm not going to sit here and
lie, but, uh, he looked good. He definitely looked the parties. He's a, he's a taller kid
from BYU six to bigger build kid, aggressive, make some place for past deflections in a game
is a lot. It shows that he's not intimidated by the NFL and, uh, he wants to go out there and make
plays. But yeah, with that being said, overall, it's preseason let's wait until game two, but I
want Aaron Glenn and, and, and I want the jets brass to put these guys in a position to play,
give Kate club, Nick, the next game, give him the first half. Let's go. The kid looked awesome.
Let him play even Bailey. If you want to put them out another series, let them play.
I am never going to be the one to shy away from having guys not play or not being an advocate
of guys playing the more they play, the better they're going to get, especially against NFL
level competition and coaching. And that's the difference between what the preseason will bring
you and what training camps brought you preseason. It's schemed up by the coaches in a sort of game
atmosphere, a real game atmosphere, the seasons, even more of a game atmosphere, it is the game
atmosphere. So we're getting a little bit of sense of it. Team's got a lot of different things going
on, but I kind of like certain things, Braylon Allen's, you know, I love Bailey, some of these
receivers. I mean, they got some stuff there at one jets jets drive. Now you want to bring it all
together because the talent's clearly there. But with that said, Frankie V here from the New York
post sports and you stadium, we'll be doing post games after real jet games. And yeah, make sure
you like, and subscribe to the channel. I'll be doing some one-off videos every week or so, but
yeah. Enjoy the rest of preseason and let's go jets, baby.
