My Drill & Impact Driver Loadout for 2026
It’s time for my annual drill and impact driver loadout!
Every year I like to take a look at the cordless tools I’m actually reaching for on a regular basis. Last year, my primary impact driver was the DeWalt DCF840. This year, I made the switch to the DeWalt ATOMIC DCF850, and it has become the impact driver I reach for most often.
I also use the more powerful DCF860, but for everyday work, the incredibly compact size of the DCF850 makes it hard to beat. It gives me plenty of performance while keeping the overall tool small, lightweight, and easy to work with.
On the drill side, I own and use several different drills and hammer drills, but my primary grab-and-go drill is the DeWalt ATOMIC DCD794. It’s another compact tool that gives me the performance I need without carrying around a larger drill when the job doesn’t require one.
A huge part of this setup is the batteries.
I run DeWalt POWERSTACK 1.7Ah batteries on these tools. The compact POWERSTACK design keeps the entire package small while providing excellent power delivery, which is exactly what I want from an ATOMIC setup.
I also pair the tools with Simon Tools magnetic bit holders, giving me quick access to the bits I use most without having to constantly dig through a separate bit case.
Finally, I use the Mud Slick versions of the batteries. The black, easy-clean exterior is particularly useful around dirty jobs where the batteries can end up covered in dust, concrete residue, grime, and other debris—they’re incredibly easy to wipe back down.
This isn’t necessarily every drill or impact driver I own. It’s the combination that has earned its place as my primary everyday setup for 2026.
