And what a special weekend.
I mean, seeing the jackets go on the men and then seeing those speeches, Howard
Bowles are one of the 50 hall of fame voters is here with us now and Howard,
that those speeches never ceased to amaze and never ceased to deliver.
Do they, they, they, they usually don't, there's no question.
I think one of the things with the hall of fame did is they really were getting
on guys to make them shorter than they had been in most times, the speeches
were short, but you get that outlier.
It got, you know, someone like Michael Irvin or whoever, you know, going 30,
35 minutes and they've kept them anywhere between 12 and 18 minutes
over these last few years.
And I think in a lot of ways, they're better.
They're concise forces guys to get to the point and they, and they, they do
an excellent, excellent job with, with it.
And so it was interesting.
You mentioned the 50 selectors, 50 is a big number and important number for me.
I just celebrated my 50th anniversary covering a pro football and this is the
37th time I've been in Canton for an enshrinement weekend and it never gets
old, it's, it's, it's tremendous every year when I go there and of course I do
shows for serious, serious NFL radio and we interview so many hall of famers over
the couple of days and boy, I have to pitch myself and say, don't, you know,
don't ever take this for granted for what, you know, for what I'm doing.
Uh, being, you know, being here and seeing people and then seeing the events
and the gold jackets get put on and this is what, something the public doesn't
see Dan on Friday night at the gold jacket dinner and one thing that's been
changed over the years, over the last few years is that it used to be when they
brought the hall of famer on, on the stage, after they walked through this
gauntlet of over a hundred hall of fame players that are there lined up on
either side of the stage and when they introduce a player, he has to walk down.
It takes them about five minutes a lot of times to get from the back of the
line to the stage, but in the past they'd have the, the player's presenter
come on stage to put the gold jacket on.
They changed that a couple of years ago and they gave each hall of famer the
choice of another hall of famer that they would like to have put the jacket on.
And that even makes it more emotional when you see the hug between Larry Fitzgerald
and Chris Carter, who he, who he chose, you know, Larry Fitzgerald was a ball
boy for the Vikings back in the day when he was a younger guy and even a
little bit in college and, and, and, you know, Chris Carter was a player on the
Vikings, to see Roger Craig and have Ed DiBartolo Jr.
Come on stage and the hugs and after they do that, it's just, you can just
feel the emotion in the air, like you said, it's just special and I just hope
I can just keep doing this for as long as obviously I can.
