While the game was closely contested, a critical interception by Drake Maye proved to be the turning point. Analysts now view the Bears as a \"gathering storm\" in the NFC, noting their opportunistic nature and high-efficiency playmakers as they head toward the second half of the season.
Here is Caleb Williams on the huge victory
and great game that he had on Thursday.
We're in a good spot, obviously.
Long season, and we got guys that go down.
We got guys that come back off injuries, all of that.
So, like I said, long season.
Feel good going into this extended period before this next game.
Be able to get ample amount of time to rest,
ample amount of time to focus on these next guys
and be able to get exactly where we need to be as a team.
New England played a very good game
as well just one key mistake in the game maybe could have been
a different outcome had Drake Maye not thrown
an interception in the end zone to the Bears
Here's Maye on that pass, it definitely was a huge point
in the game um you know i just gosh um just
it's those plays you know i talk about all
the time you know those plays that
can swing the game you can impact the game
and that's definitely one of them right there you
I wish I'd definitely had that one back in a lot of plays.
But I give credit to them.
They had a good plan on a short week, and they got after us.
We got two chances with the ball back
to go down and score and take the lead.
And we got to go through our park, and we just can't have penalties
and me not operating at the high level
to kind of move the chains and get going.
And especially after the missed field goal,
we only got a bad three and out.
Hey, Joe, it certainly looked like two really good football teams
playing on Thursday night.
It was, you know, not quite the—a lot
of folks thought it would be a super high-scoring game.
Of course, the field goal late pushed it to the over.
But going back to the Bears here for a minute and going back to Week 1,
when a team scores 59 in the NFL, it is very rarely a fluke like that.
It almost tells you, OK, there could be something brewing here.
And then everything went wrong for the Bears since then.
But, boy, I got to tell you,
even going back to then and sticking with it now, I think the Bears,
Joe, continue to be a very dangerous, opportunistic team.
If they could ever get this defense fixed toward the end of the season,
you know, the question that I have, I guess,
is that when you look at the NFC and maybe forget the AFC
because all it requires is beating the NFC to get to the Super Bowl.
I mean, I don't know, Joe.
It feels like there's maybe one
or two teams that I think are ahead of the Bears.
and boy yeah i mean i i could see a path
for them i really could i mean san francisco i mean who
else really scares you in the entire nfc carolina
they already beat them by 40 this is this is a
tough team i agree uh they are plus 1500 right now
to win the super bowl i think that's a really
intriguing bet more because you mentioned san francisco kind
of looking like the team to beat
as it were in the nfc but that team has a lot of age
and a lot of wear and tear on it and we're
only six weeks into the season you're already seeing it you know
if mike evans achilles does
pop at some point that's
a really tricky situation there yeah they got cmc they got kittle still
it's a great system they're they're a very sound team
with Brock Purdy playing out of his mind
playing a great quarterback this year uh
but i look at the bears as being kind of this thing
that's just gathering storm kind of feeling
and i feel like those are the teams that get hot
as the season goes on and the teams will get hot
when you get into late october november december
those are the ones that kind of roll it's not always
the teams that start out hot in september
and i'm looking at the bears and i'm looking at colson loveland
who was a big hold for me over
the weeks where caleb williams wasn't playing
and people were losing their minds you see caleb
williams back see how good colson loveland
is luther burden one of the most efficient wide
receivers if you're looking at like
the expected fantasy points for luther burden and in terms of
what he's doing in yards per catch
and all these different metrics that you've got out there for
him he is in the top 10 and you don't realize it
because he's not always being utilized as much as
some of the other jsn's of the world
and some other guys like that so just metrically speaking
he is still lined up for a huge second half
potentially caleb williams playing great football
ben johnson looks like a genius this is a big win
for them over a good not great patriot team
i'm with you man i look around the nfc
and i feel like the bears are the gathering storm
right now and the rest of this conference
needs to be very afraid of them
Thank
you.
