When Jamie’s birthday rolled around on August 1st, I needed a last minute treat for our game night celebration. He is pretty selective with desserts because he is not a huge fan of plain chocolate, but he absolutely loves the combination of chocolate and cherries. That is how these homemade Chocolate Cherry Brownies were born. They feature a fudgy cocoa base packed with juicy fresh cherries and melted chocolate chips, all finished off with a smooth white chocolate cherry ganache that takes every single bite to the next level.

Making homemade fudgy brownies from scratch is so much easier than you might think, and the key to getting that signature crinkly, glossy top comes down to beating your eggs and sugars together until nice and light. I like to use a the Dutch processed cocoa powder for that deep chocolate flavor! If fresh cherries are out of season, frozen pitted cherries work as an as well!

To top it all off, I made an incredible white chocolate cherry ganache using sweet cherry syrup and warm heavy cream. Letting the brownies cool down fully before spreading the frosting makes it all look so silky smooth when it's set! Whether you are baking for a special birthday or just searching for the ultimate fruit and chocolate dessert recipe, these rich layered brownies are guaranteed to be an absolute hit with your entire family.

Ingredients
3 eggs, room temperature
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup all purpose flour
2/3 cup Dutch processed cocoa powder
1 cup granulated white sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup fresh sweet cherries, pitted and chopped
4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
8 ounces white chocolate chips

White Chocolate Ganache Ingredients
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup maraschino cherry syrup
2 tablespoons butter for ganache
Maraschino cherries for garnish

Tips and Tricks
🍒 Swap out fresh cherries for frozen pitted cherries if fresh ones are out of season, no need to thaw them first!
🍫 Use Dutch processed cocoa powder instead of standard cocoa powder to give your brownies a deeper, richer chocolate flavor.
🥣 Whip your sugar, butter, oil, and eggs with a hand mixer for 2 to 4 minutes to create that classic light and airy brownie texture.
🍰 Pour a splash of cherry extract or extra maraschino cherry syrup into the main batter if you want an extra punch of fruit flavor throughout the brownie itself.
❄️ Chill the baked brownies in the fridge for an hour before spreading on your warm ganache to help it set into a thick, fudge-like frosting layer.

Kitchen Helpers Corner
🐾 Eleanor held down her spot as the second best kitchen helper by keeping a close watch on the mixing process and checking for falling crumbs.
🐶 Kira took on her role as the third best kitchen helper and did a thorough, multi-step inspection of a fresh cherry slice outside before finally deciding to eat it.
❤️ We always remember our sweet Memphis, who used to be the ultimate cherry fan and would pick fresh cherries straight out of our harvesting bowls.
