AI GeneratedThe New England Patriots have been linked to a potential trade for Tampa Bay Buccaneers nose tackle Vita Vea. While Vea would significantly bolster the Patriots' defensive interior and offer unique fullback versatility, concerns remain regarding his high cap hit and the limited one-year window of his current contract.
An NFL insider just dropped a bombshell trade report on the New England Patriots.
There's no way they actually do this with Jeremy Fowler
linking New England to a top-tier trade candidate that has just entered the market.
Today we explore this trade candidate, whether or not he's a great option,
a good option, or not an option for the New England Patriots,
and what exactly he would cost in this mix as well.

Let's talk about this interesting report that has just come out.
Bita Veya has requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Adam Schefter had the report just a couple of days ago, going back to Monday.
Now here on Wednesday, we got a report from Jeremy Fowler that linked the New England Patriots
to Bita Veya, saying that, you know, this is a guy who they could go after.
Jeremy Fowler listed the Patriots as one of the five potential team fits for the Bucs
veteran nose tackle in Bita Veya after speaking with executives around the NFL,
who typically have a pulse on such things, saying, quote,
the Patriots are a fit due to their 3-4 defensive front and considerable cap space.
So the next best thing would be to locate a disruptor inside to pair with Milton Williams.
Now, the one thing the Patriots do have is already a very good defensive interior line.
You talk about the defensive tackles they have, again, a 3-4 set.
Then you've got Milton Williams, Christian Barmore,
and then you're gonna have a nose tackle of, you know, potentially Farms or Farmer.
Obviously, you put Bita Veya, that becomes an incredible defensive line,
if it's not already already with Milton Williams and Christian Barmore,
then the third down line of the nose tackle, becoming Bita Veya,
not to mention the fullback potential with him, as we've seen in the past.
And kind of reminds me of Cady Stonga, guy who was a real big piece for the Patriots in 2025.
But how likelihood or what is the likelihood of this trade?
I think it's the big thing we have to ask, because Veya is a very good player
and obviously is going to be put into a smorgasbord of different assets
that people will try and give up for him.
Now, four and a half sacks this past year, 34 tackles, nothing incredibly crazy.
The PFF grade, pretty solid for him at 72.8,
ranking him at the top half of defensive interior linemen.
12th in terms of pass rush grade at 77.
The run defense grade a little bit less at 62.5.
He's a really, really good player.
We can't stress enough how really solid Bita Veya is
and how much he would improve this team and does give a lot of Cady Stonga energy.
And we know how much one Stonga did for this team, the fullback option that he possessed,
but also what Mike Frabel thought of Stonga.
And not to say they need to replace him because once he left, that was it.
But I do think it's something that the Patriots would love to see.
A guy that is similar to Stonga hop in here and be an asset for New England.
So what is the cost?
What exactly would the Patriots have to pay for a guy like Bita Veya?
Well, let's first go to the contract because that is going to be a huge part of this.
Now, it is just one year left on his deal.
He's got a UFA next year board contract there.
So he's going to be making $22 million as a cap hit in this upcoming 2026 season.
So you're in theory trading for one year of him is kind of the big way to look at that.
So for the Patriots, it has to be worthwhile to, you know, give up some assets, but nothing
considerable given the one year of control.
Now, I've seen tweets and insiders and respect perspective saying that he'd be worth around
a second and a fifth rounder, which Patriots, I think more or less would be fine giving
that up in some ways, but it'd have to be for future drafts.
The 2027 draft is something they really, really do like.
Obviously, the fifth round they've already given up is something they don't have to
give up in 2027.
I want to think the Patriots would value the second and fifth rounder over one year of
Bita Veya because, I mean, worst comes to worst, he gets traded somewhere in signs and
extension elsewhere.
There's also an option of if you really do think that Bita Veya would fit in the system,
he's going to be a free agent next year.
And I know that we're, you know, Super Bowl windows here.
You're trying to get in every way possible, but you've also got to worry about contracts
coming in here.
If you're going to trade for him, you've got to be willing to extend them.
And I don't know if that's the case right now.
They have a lot of cap space.
That's very true.
But are they going to have a lot of cap space in three years when Gonzalez gets on his contract
extension, when Drake May gets his contract extension, when Trayvon Henderson gets a
contract extension?
There's extensions to come and money to be spent elsewhere.
So you'd have to be willing to trade for potentially just one year, which is not a bad
thing.
I think getting one year of Bita Veya is more worth it than anything else.
I mean, you look at what he's been able to do across his NFL career going back to 2018.
He's been one of the best defensive tackles, maybe the best interior defensive lineman
in terms of the nose tackle position since he's joined the league.
We all know about his offensive capabilities as well and the blocking that is able to do
as a fullback.
Let's mention the potential to grab the ball and run with it as well.
He's a big guy.
He's hard to take down.
I would, like I said, love to see him on the Patriots because you pair him with Milton
Williams and far more.
You've got a upper echelon, if not the best defensive line in the NFL, at least in a 3-4
set like that is something that you will not find anywhere else to have three interior
defensive lineman that can have that sort of push.
Not to mention you've got Harold Landry and Draymond Jones on the outside.
That's a big thing as well to add into this team.
So for Bita Veya, a second and a fifth is too much for me when you talk about it potentially
being one year.
And as much as I want to say that the Patriots would be willing to extend him, they might
be willing to extend him.
But financially, it just doesn't make a lot of sense.
But you can't deny that he is being linked to the Patriots and that is something that
is huge.
In terms of the next team odds, the Patriots are on here.
They're not in the top five on this one.
Obviously, Jeremy Fowler put him in his top five and that one obviously is a bit more
credibility to it having an ESPN reporter than that online, whatever it is.
I do find this to be an intriguing thing to keep watch of because if Bita Veya decides
that he does not want to play at all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they are going to
be more willing to trade him.
Now, that means that more teams will get in on the potential of trading for him, but the
Patriots could be one of those teams that gets in there and tries to make a move.
Obviously, right now, quiet for the most part in terms of the Patriots and making moves.
We know that Mike Vrabel has said that they are trying to address any need that might
have.
I still feel the tight end is the most important need at this moment, just the backup tight
end, finding something to replace Julian Hill.
Eli Rodon, though, maybe that's the guy they like.
Maybe they go after defensive tackle.
So we'll have to wait and see.
Let me know what you think down in the comments section about Bita Veya and whether or not
you believe that the Patriots should go out there and grab him.
I'm curious for Patriots Nation and kind of your take on it because I think in some ways
he is a good player to think about and having on this team and I would love to see him there,
but is it the right move is the question mark.
Let me know your thoughts down below.
Training camp continues to roll on.
Got our notes from yesterday.
A lot of things that I wanted to bring up just from yesterday's camp, but today, obviously,
a little bit lighter today.
I should get pads on tomorrow, but booty was again, had the play of the day yesterday with
a touchdown.
I may best catch was from made it made it made a Henry with zero room.
Today, we got some cool things on AJ Brown, having a couple of good catches on seven on
sevens.
One thing to note, though, and the reason I bring this up, Carlton Davis and Charles
Woods both left practice yesterday.
Carlton Davis had an injury, quote unquote, as a hamstring.
Charles would had a heat injury or like a heat stroke or some sort of, you know, something
to do with the heat.
That was a question mark that we don't really know.
We haven't gotten any updates.
I believe he was on the field today, so that's good to know, but I was intriguing to see
both those guys in the off the field yesterday.
But let me know what you think about what's going on training camp.
Of course, with the event, we'll see you guys next time on the show.
Peace out.
