Neervana | Sustainable Rammed Earth Residence by Art & Architecture Associates

Neervana is a contemporary courtyard residence located in Vadodara, designed for two brothers and their multi-generational families. Rooted in the principles of traditional Indian courtyard living, the project reinterprets vernacular climatic wisdom through a contemporary architectural language.

At the heart of the home lies a naturally ventilated courtyard that acts as a social nucleus while enhancing thermal comfort through passive cooling and stack ventilation. The courtyard introduces daylight, fresh air, and greenery deep into the residence, creating meaningful connections between family members and the surrounding environment.

The architecture embraces simplicity, material authenticity, and sustainability. Rammed earth walls provide thermal mass and reduce embodied energy, while locally sourced Kota stone creates continuity and durability throughout the home. Shaded verandahs, clerestory openings, operable louvers, and landscaped courts work together to maximize natural ventilation and daylight while minimizing energy consumption.

Integrated sustainable strategies include rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge systems, water-efficient fixtures, and the use of reclaimed materials, reinforcing the project's commitment to environmental responsibility.
