AI GeneratedThe hosts of \"Talking Yanks\" analyze the New York Yankees' spring training, focusing on roster congestion and the need for strategic moves. Key discussions include the potential trade of IKF to clear a path for prospect Anthony Volpe, concerns over Tommy Kenley's bicep injury, and the team's pitching rotation strategy to avoid a six-man system.
Today is March 7th.
The Yankee spring training lineups continue to
cause ripples in our brains.
And we're going to talk all about that and more on this episode of
talking to Yanks, ripples and nipples, every lineups like
ah, ha ha ha ha.
Hello and welcome to talking Yanks episode number eight hundred and sixty
four brought to you by seat geek.
And if you use code John boy preseason, you'll get twenty dollars off
your first purchase and make that first purchase
a game in the opening series or the opening homestand
because baseball's coming up.
The pinstripes are on.
They're playing judge hit an excuse me home run with a new approach.
The kids are ripping it up.
They're going to be
the field and seats.
When you use code John boy preseason from Siki,
they got the bubbles on the app and all that is good ----.
Jake, how are you?
Good. That's a good color on you.
Is that a new shirt?
James, this is a new shirt.
I had a it was a well-dressed Wednesday panic move.
I had nothing.
I went to a footlocker and you forget like how much like cool
swag stuff they have at stores.
And I just I wandered around aimlessly for like an hour.
And then I found this and like a zip up windbreaker.
A really nice, really nice move with this.
I'm wearing my black swishy pants that weirdly have these orange zippers
on the side, but it kind of goes with my orange shirt.
So in that way, it's kind of a full outfit.
I'm stylish.
And yeah, it's a big week at John Boy Media.
Blitzball Battle three recording
released in a couple of months, but
I know we're juiced up.
And yeah, we actually we got some real news.
I had the same reaction you did to Tommy Conley.
We'll talk about him in a moment
because, yeah, it was just kind of like, what, what?
And now it's now it's a real something.
We got some rotation noise.
And yeah, we've been eyeing lineups.
We're hearing about guys playing different places.
And I think it's supposed to start coming to fruition,
but it's not in fruition until it's in fruition.
Yeah, I mean, it's full blown ahead.
They're trying to trade IKF before they have to actually prep him
at another position.
As soon as they start him at another position,
that means a trade's not happening.
And OK, ----, this dude is our six million dollar utility guy.
Let's actually throw him in other positions.
That's where I'm at in my head with it, which is still the biggest storyline
of camp. I know Kenley got hurt, but it's still how do these roles
and positions get ironed out?
And that is, in my opinion, what's happening
because he's still just starting at shortstop.
He made an error behind Cole again on a ball coming in.
You're there.
The rumors are starting to be written about the reporters and stuff
are saying, like, you know, trading for the Rockies right away
or the Dodgers are trying. We can move.
So I've decided that the reason we haven't seen him anywhere else
is because they don't want to ruin his stock and trade market.
And they are fully trying to trade him before spring training ends
because they have to because they have to.
Hey, I I'm still looking for a solution.
You know, we talked about it with you, Joe's BBD.
Anyone that'll talk to me about it?
You know, the Yankees have too many infielders.
And that's before you say the word Anthony Volpe.
Hit that hit that a Y, even though it's with the knee.
And he's he looks incredible.
So I don't know, man, it's it's hard to me.
It's hard for me to buy into it because I dreamed about it all off season.
And we've been doing some of the back and forths in our Yankees chats about,
you know, I getting IKF sign was like their first transaction.
They made sure they did that.
And now Parazza's got a little what's he got a shin thing?
And it's hilarious.
They even labeled it because they said he's playing Thursday.
So not playing a couple days of spring training.
I mean, I guess for the tweet I saw was sore legs for a kid.
You know, I guess that means something.
But yeah, I don't know.
And then there was there was the article written yesterday.
It was NJ dot com. Right.
But at the same time, I you know, not to be rude.
Hey, if you're looking to get some clicks from Yankee fans,
that's the article to write, right?
Well, it wasn't it wasn't even NJ dot com.
It was not it was the nightingale news, which is.
Yeah. And it was and it wasn't even like a report.
It was just like, look for the Dodgers and Yankees to chat.
It was nothing.
But then there was it's getting louder,
just like in the world of Twitter.
I see. Like, I think
River have blues was like, yeah, they have to train them
before spring training ends.
And other people I've talked to that cover the Yankees are like, yeah,
it seems like they have to.
Otherwise, they're fucked.
And our conversation that we had via text,
the group of us kind of came to the same conclusion, because
this is a guy they paid six million dollars.
And when has a team ever spent that much money on a guy
who's intended to just be a bench player?
Like when you compare it to who has had that position
for the last five years, Tyler Wade on league minimum.
And anywhere else, your backup corner
outfielder, our middle and middle infielder.
Yeah. And how much was Marwin getting paid?
He was a minor one, I think.
But that was like a veteran.
It was right above like a veteran minimum.
Like and it's you could be like, well, yeah, but you got your utility guy.
Great. We got to he's
I guess better than those two, and he's on.
So we have a better bench player.
That's not the world of value and money. That makes sense.
So if if they break camp and IKF on this team, he will be playing.
They're not going to sit him.
And and I figured out how that came to be that he got six million,
which put me at ease.
I, I debunked it.
I figured out why, because everyone was confused.
Why would you do that right away?
So I figured it out.
But it is trade or IKF is at
at minimum platooning at short in my mind.
Yeah. Yeah.
I mean, I'm I'm in lockstep and I don't I don't think a trade's coming
because I still think there's there's a ton of people in the building
that like what IKF represents and maybe even think the plan is being executed
perfectly, like he stopped the gap last year
and this was supposed to be his transition to utility year.
I don't know.
It's it's still the conversation.
And I don't know.
I there's there's parts of me when I'm showering
and I'll I'll be like, you know, there's going to be a day
when we're going to be running to the talking Yanks mics
because I think something is going to happen.
And then there's days when I you know, when I saw that first spring training
real lineup with D.J.
Stanton judge, I was like, I'm familiar with this.
I know what this is.
So I don't want to know.
I'm going to know how he got the six mil.
How he got the six mil.
You know how the why the Yankees
gave tendered that contract with him for that much money.
Why so quickly?
They didn't want to argue with them because they don't want to hurt his feelings.
No, not even because they didn't need to settle that high.
I yeah, I figured this one out the other day.
I texted you guys about your fan fiction.
I mean, some might think it's fan fiction or some might think, yeah,
that's probably what happened, Jimmy. You're right.
Cashman, not the GM anymore, right?
President of the time.
At the time, IKF did that.
I don't think he had a contract.
Cashman. OK.
So, yes. So you saw
Crane, the Astros act as GM in the interim, like made some decisions for them.
And and how was like, yeah, I'm not just an absent owner on my yacht.
Like I can make some decisions for this dang team.
He set up at his desk and cashman like for a week played hardball.
I was like, yeah, well, OK, I'm not under contract.
So just don't do anything while I'm gone
because I'm on vacation.
I'm not under contract.
And I was like, I can run ship.
And all I've heard from from Cash and his crew is that IKF is great.
He's number, you know, top five, six shortstop.
He's great at range and making good plays.
And don't worry how it was a very good trade that I made for your ballclub.
This is great.
Cash knows, you know, he knows in his heart that it wasn't great.
And that, you know, we have an out here to non tender him
or to like lessen it or to trade him at a tender.
I'm at a reasonable rate and trade my cash knew that.
But but he was an interim.
And how was like, I've only ever heard good things about this guy.
Never seen him play.
But the reception is not good on the boat.
But I'm the owner.
I can make some decisions.
And he was like, you know what?
Let's not even fight.
We're the Yankees.
We give you what you want.
Six million next.
And then and then people were texting cash and were like, dude,
you have to come back.
You have to do stuff even before you get your contract done.
We just gave IKF six mil.
And cash was like, ****, OK, I'm back.
So that's how it happened.
Because the other the other way is just that
everyone made a collective mistake.
So I figured that out and it was kind of relieving.
Well, Hal's very familiar with IKF game.
He comes to a game every homestand.
No, no, no, no, no.
He comes from 9 a.m.
to 11 on the first day of homestands
just to see people, is what he said.
Hal likes fish.
I get it, man. I'm happy for him.
Yeah, I. OK, I'll put that in the bucket.
I'll put it in the same bucket.
Joe's McFly just tweeted Aaron Hicks batting 385.
Done. Full tweet. Yeah.
So, yeah, Hicks, he's starting in left.
Yeah. Yeah.
Of the three guys, it's the one we have the least issue with.
Right. To start the year.
The three problem guys.
It's a loaded. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I think so. Yeah.
To start the season. Yeah.
Because I still want us, Waldo, to be able to roam around.
He still has a role if he's the guy.
But maybe not.
I don't know. I really actually I don't know.
Yeah. In my head, I want it to be Donaldson,
but that would have to be the plus lineup with Stanton and right
and judging left, which I think Donaldson's hitting 330.
Oh, my God. Everyone's hitting this spring.
Everybody's hitting right now.
Pitchers are just throwing fastballs to get through the pitch clock
and like surviving.
It's spring training.
It doesn't matter.
Willie Calhoun would have made the team thick.
Really thick, Willie.
Really thick. Yeah.
Nice. Ash.
Should we talk about Tommy Conley?
Canely? Sure.
Sure. You just you're you're you're in on my fan fiction.
Who called him Conley?
That was like a part of the team.
And we were like, Katie Sharpe, Katie Sharpe.
Katie Sharpe was a big Conley.
Maybe she's queen of stats.
She usually is.
She knows more than us. Miss her.
No, I think your fan fiction.
Again, I debunked it.
How, you know, at at those homestands nine to 11.
That's where I can't put in all his work.
There's still that is when he puts in his work.
Yeah, it doesn't make sense.
The puzzle has too many of the wrong pieces.
And it it feels like it can be figured out with one
one move that I just don't know if that's going to happen.
Jack, Jack Curry talked about he said process, though,
the starting shortstop, and he believes IKF will be moved to a bench roll.
And I love Jack and usually agree with everything.
Like we're usually in lockstep.
But I, I cannot imagine the Yankees paying a guy six million dollars
to start once every once a week as a true like Tyler Wade was that position.
They started once a week.
Like these are guys that you did not need to get them run.
IKF, you're giving him six million dollars and you still might want to trade him.
You need to.
So I guess as Yankee fans know that if he's
not traded and breaks camp with the roster, fully expect him to get
a lot of playing time.
I mean, I don't I think a lot of people are of Jack Curry's mind
that he's just going to go be on the bench. I don't see it.
One of the perks of Marwin was that he there would be stretches
where you didn't see him.
And like that was that would be a joke on the episode.
And Marwin, by the way, still 85 games, 207 plate appearances.
You know, Neil Walker, as we were going through previous utility guys or bench.
I shouldn't say utility guys.
DJ Lemay is a utility guy that's supposed to play almost every day.
Bench guys are supposed to be bench guys.
That's what Marwin was.
He still played 85 games, 207 plate appearances.
Neil Walker going back.
He was four million dollars, which that was kind of the best.
OK, four million in 2018.
That's kind of like six million now in today's baseball salaries.
He ended up playing 100, 115 ish type games.
And he first, second, third, some corner outfield, right?
I for me, it's tough to picture and the position matters here.
And I hate to go back to the Jeter doc, but, you know, shortstop's a thing.
And for them to have a guy be there starting shortstop all year
and then the next year, he's just their their bench utility guy.
I just I'm not going to believe that.
I'm not going to believe that.
So all right.
I'm not feeling very cozy about that, Jim, but maybe you should feel cozy
about your cozy earth men's lounge where I've got some right here.
It's a nice material.
It's a comfy, you know, whenever you get a piece of clothes
and you're like, oh, that's a comfy's.
That's cozy earth.
Yeah, I have pants from them.
They're very comfy pajamas, almost like weighted pajamas.
They're the versions that I have.
They're very comfy.
You're on the couch.
You're on the bed lounge.
You can still take the dog out, but you're going to be cozy when you're doing it.
They offer all season versatility, perfect for laying in those cold months
and worn on its own during the warmer months.
Next level comfort and four way stretch technology.
We love. Oh, hey, Jake, at your wedding, at your wedding.
Say it's one of the parents.
You hated it.
One of the parents said in their speech that
Jess looks like an angel when she sleeps. Yeah.
And I wanted to riff off that in my speech.
Yeah, I said, well, I mean, Jake looks angelic when he sleeps, too.
He looks like a little dead boy.
And I'm picturing you with the pajamas on
and like your dead sleep face.
And it's it's like cozy, man. Yeah.
You're going to be at peace one day.
One day until then, I'll be in my cozy earth and I'll be using code
Yanks for 35 percent off.
That's a real one.
Cozy earth dot com code Yanks.
There's a link in the description.
Jimmer, the Tommy Kainly injury snuck up on both of us.
I was yesterday.
I got a DM from Patrick Bishop, early talking Yanks listener.
We we don't we don't DM a lot.
He's just like, man, Kainly, huh?
And I was like, I don't know.
I haven't been keeping up.
And then, yeah, the quotes started coming out yesterday that
bicep tendonitis.
I have that right.
And he's this is something he's dealt previously.
And they're saying a month.
But you also have to put that in the mix.
Master of Tommy Kainly is not getting a spring training.
So there's there's extra time to it.
And, you know, a month we think is for that injury to clear up,
which also Papa Mendelsohn said it's going to be longer than that.
So I don't know.
We're in a weird Tommy Kainly spot.
Yeah, I guess I don't know.
I mean, everything pretty unclear.
When's the last time someone's had this?
Can I compare it to that?
I said right now, right now, my worry meter is empty.
You shouldn't and you never know what these things
in theory shouldn't miss a lot of time if he's going to miss any like the Yankees
quotes are saying opening day roster is still in play.
The fact that he's not getting a spring training makes me feel
less good about that.
He's he's halfway through a 10 day full shutdown.
You should be doing some amount of work soon.
Yeah, it's just I mean, I'm very interested in what the next update would be.
You to the image of me.
Coffin style sleeping.
It do. Yeah.
Yeah. When I go out, I go out.
The cute searching for the cute, though.
It's not like you look at these like you're you look cute when you sleep.
Yeah, I look like a.
Oh, I can't say that.
You remember when our you remember when our other roommate in college
go after the uglier sleepers ever?
Ever? Oh, yeah.
I would take pictures of him asleep and show him in the morning.
I'm like, look how atrocious you look. Yeah.
Oh, the kid that slept like a tent.
I need way more info on Kenley if he's truly going to miss the first month
and I I'm not my worry tank is empty.
It actually helps the Yankees out making decisions.
And if everyone else is
around, you're there.
Usually when you lose a reliever, you lose them for the season,
like Chad Green last year or Zack Britton.
So I can't, you know, relievers pitch.
A handful are, you know, 10 times a month sometimes or 12 and for one inning.
So I don't know.
I have to really like dive into is this an injury that's going to linger
and be OK now all of a sudden he's out to all star break.
And that's a normal course of action here.
Or is it truly, you know, in May he's going to be firing it
because those are way different versions to me.
And we will lose a reliever for the year at some point that will happen.
So the fact that this isn't that almost in my mind is like, oh, great.
Dodged a bullet, because usually when relievers go out in spring
and we had this with Clark last year, we had it with Chad.
We've had it with Britain.
We've had it with players
spring or April in the reliever role that like they're gone.
So if he's not done, Yanks can survive.
Yeah, I think it just means it's huge for like
I think Albert Abreu was the 26th man on the roster.
I think he still might be because depending how you do the early
pitching days between Clark and Domingo, which we got some news on that
and we're going to be talking about that in a minute.
But yeah, I mean, right now, as as roster resource,
which we always enthuse you guys to go to, if that's the right word there.
You know, the the guys that would be fighting with
Albert Abreu for potentially the last spot in the bullpen.
Well, non-roster invite D.J.
Snellen, a fan of the program, and we're a fan of him.
Has he thrown yet illegal to?
I think he throws too hard.
So like the Yankees don't get to use him until closer to the season, I think.
I haven't seen any Snellen highlights.
The two guys he'd basically be competing with on the 40 man
are Greg Weiser, who still has all three options listed on his
on the website.
And Jimmy Cordero, who's 31 years old, he's an interesting guy.
Chuck's 100. He's pitching the MLB.
He had a bunch of injuries.
He's with the Yankees also as he also has one option.
And Albert Abreu does not.
So, you know, when when you do the roster math and the Yankees
with their sneaky love for Albert Abreu, like he is, he's in there like swimwear.
Yeah. But where do they have the web dog?
What was that?
Where do they have the web dog on roster resource?
The Yankees.
So you won't find it in the CBA, but each team gets a guy that they own,
even though they don't own them.
And the Yankees moved on from Rob Brantley to the web dog.
So even though he's not on the 40 man, he's just like Yankees property.
They don't be surprised if the web dog somehow breaks camp with the team.
I never am.
I mean, Webby's just lighten it up the spring.
Davey Garcia.
As our guy pitched yet, DJ Snellen.
No, no. Got into one.
Maybe he's just not on the first page of pitchers.
Yeah. OK, here it is.
Zero point two innings.
One earned run, one unearned run.
He hit a batter and he walked three.
So, I mean, he hasn't pitched in five years.
He was getting the jitters out. That's all.
Yeah, I mean, defense let him down and I leaned into it.
Pansy and Pansy's got to be done, right?
Now I'm bringing it back, bringing back Pansy and bringing back
Butthead's been back for a while, but I'm bringing that back in back.
I think that was by you.
It was bad living.
Maybe I called a guy, but on Twitter the other day, I felt good about that.
Yeah, you let it rip.
He deleted his tweet.
And because he was wrong.
Well, just like I had, that's devastating.
Yeah. If you want to, you know, disagree with me in an angry
and unreasonable way, that's fine.
I'll mostly ignore it.
But if I know that I have a counter, I'm going to butthead you.
And that's that's fair.
Yeah, I'm getting my fire back a little bit.
Nice. I like that.
What was the what was the day recently you were filled till?
Oh, pitch.
When pitch clock was hitting full, full burn.
The first winter you you were.
That was the deepest I've seen you in the game in a while.
That was that was good.
Yeah, you were out for blood.
Yeah.
Upset at people being upset, kind of silly, but whatever.
It's like, what? Really?
First day you don't even watch baseball. Shut up.
And just you didn't think people told me it was going to be your fan.
If you're a fan of this, you're not a fan of baseball, John Boy.
Sorry, I thought you were a baseball fan.
Why don't you go lick your bedroom wall?
The one closest to your bed, too.
Yeah. You make out spot practicing.
Gross. That stuff on the wall.
Hicks, Hicks looks good.
I mean, Hicks looks at spring training.
I don't care, but his swing is different.
And besides that ball, I dropped in left field.
That was weird.
But, you know, no third deck and whatever.
I am rooting for him.
And his PPP hasn't come out yet, I don't believe.
By end of this week, I think.
End of this week, I do get very
lovingly mad at him. Right.
And I give him a kick in the butt motivationally.
And I am I think I'm going to stay on him in that way.
OK. You know, like I want I want as Waldo to get run.
And there's there's time for him.
Like, dude, he's from a certain source of a trip right now.
You know, like if Parazza is injured and that kicks.
You didn't hear that.
OK, well, if Parazza has sort of a mic instead of talked,
talked with your nose.
If Parazza has sore legs and is out.
OK, well, then who should be the and Volpe has to go to AAA
to get more reps and you want to do a service time.
I'm forgiving you on that.
Whatever, whatever. It's stupid, but whatever.
And Parazza is out.
Well, then, you know who should get most reps at shortstop as Waldo Cabrera.
You have three options before you get to the one guy.
I was I was a I was a I got you good with that one last year.
Yeah, I. And Trevino's lights out stud hot.
Yeah, I think the thing.
It's so interesting going back on last year's
last year's Yankee page and doing kind of an at bats game for me
because we we dove into this originally with kind of the utility stuff.
But, you know, IKF was the starting shortstop all year.
Five hundred thirty one plate appearances.
In theory, there's a world where those could be fair game.
In theory, they could not.
But there's a lot of A's there.
Josh Donaldson was the starting third baseman for most season.
Five hundred forty six plate appearances.
Hicks for fifty three plate appearances.
Joey Gallo had 273.
So like those will have to be replaced by someone throughout the year.
Marvin Gonzalez, 207 plate appearances.
Matt Carpenter, 154.
Benny, 131.
Miguel Andujar took 100 plate appearances with the Yankees.
There's going to be a bats to be had.
And I guess that's circling back to like if Hicks is the starting left fielder.
Is that the thing we're the most OK with?
Yes and no.
Like there's going to be a bats for his Waldo.
I'm not sure where they're going to come, but it also doesn't matter.
Like he says he wants to play center field now.
Like he's about that life.
And it's like, OK, kid, like, I appreciate that.
But we're actually we're kind of OK there.
That yeah, man, I as as we talk about the roster crunch
and is there one too many bodies and who's going to play
and what's it going to look like?
We're one body away.
You see Ozzie spit into the wind on camera.
I did not.
Did you see it, BBD?
I didn't see it, but now I want to.
Isn't that what he did?
Didn't see.
I thought I might have like they're like, is it really windy out there?
And he was like, is the camera on me?
Look, that's how we test it.
He's awesome, man.
Ruka Ruka was like, you're really comfortable.
That's what you're doing.
Can I say something messed up?
Like I should be obsessed with as well, though.
And yes, did I wear a child's candy necklace around for a month
and a half last year? Sure.
But I'm like my heart isn't fully open to him
because I'm worried that the Yankees like aren't going to triple
aren't going to like let him be.
Well, they let him be last year.
I just I'm just he's like a triple ace candidate to start.
And I don't think you can do that.
Yeah, you kind of break the spirit of the team a little bit.
But I am rooting for Hicks to fight for the job as well.
I'm not really like I don't want Hicks to win it.
I just want him to like their successes aren't mutually exclusive
because as well, they can do anything.
Yeah, as well, I was going to get run because you can do anything.
He's he's the Cabrera.
He's the or not Cabrera.
He's the Marwin, which is also why, like IKF, you have to just trade that guy.
Yeah. And I guess that's the does that clear up everything?
Jake, if I can, they trade him.
And now, OK, both Oswald and Oswaldo can get reps at short
and as well, they can get reps.
There's like a platoon between short or second, sorry, second
and left field between Hicks as Waldo in left field
and then as Waldo and Oswald at short. Right.
OK, run your little DJ, JD flavor game for a little bit
until that sorts itself out.
Like I'm almost like, great.
The 26 man works.
Yes. I mean, it's I get the answers.
Yes. Comma, but and I don't know if that's good English.
Again, that's still all before Volpe, who
he's starting at triple.
I, I full blown, full blown.
Nice, full blown.
Agree with you that he's going to start a triple A
and the Yankees aren't going to do that, although I, I differ.
And I even said I, you know, I, I he looks ready.
Part of me understands the process and understands that, you know,
if if you do that right with Volpe, you get another year of his prime.
Blah, blah, blah.
Whatever. Every team's done it.
The Yankees have every other team has done it.
It half stinks, but it's because, Jim,
we haven't even gotten to that conversation
because we still have an extra body and a half
that if Volpe came up at the kid who's promised, he makes it.
He's awesome.
Where does he play?
There's no it's not available.
I am I am OK with the the situation
that you trade IKF Volpe starts in inch inch triple A gets more reps down there.
That's fine.
Service time should not be an issue here because you're
you have a window now of judge and Cole and Stan and their years
of like two, three years that whatever, like attack that as best you can.
There will be an injury that opens up spots in the infield
and he will be the first person up and he will get run.
I am all for that plan.
I if they go against that and they they put them on the team right away
in opening day, that's awesome. I'm for that, too.
But I'm not going to give them too much ---- for saying
he's going to start the year triple A.
We're going to make sure we call him up and get him a lot of action
as soon as we have an opening.
You have to trade IKF to make that the plan, because if you don't,
instead, you're sending as Waldo or Oswald down to triple A
and now Volpe is blocked in ******* triple A.
So the whole ******* thing comes down to you got to move IKF.
If you want to
open up options for the more talented players to play
and to the point where this is becoming not like last year,
it felt like just me ripping and roaring in April and May about this.
It became a problem that everyone agreed with me on eventually.
So far, he got benched in the postseason, but it really felt like
I would just explode.
People like, gee, Jimmy, like, calm down.
And now it's like, hey, we're still here.
It's still the major issue of the roster construction.
So and more people publicly are coming around to it now
that I'm seeing like, guys, this doesn't work.
There's one blatant mistake here.
You gave the guy six million dollars.
Now you're having trouble offloading him and he doesn't fit on the team.
And after tender, Jim, no, it's tender to me.
My shady rays, I just put them on shady radio.
They are OK.
Good friends with us.
I think it started last year and it's just been like peas and carrots.
I mean, I think we've got some big announcements coming with them.
So like lamb and tuna fish and for you, shady rays.
What if I told you they have a loss and broken replacement guarantee?
So if you lose or break them, you get a new pair.
No cues aid.
So even if you send them a video of you just putting them under your car
and driving over them, I think they'll replace them.
They hate that.
But they will still replace them, I think.
I don't know if that's true. I made it up.
And OK, you're like, all right, sunglasses for life.
Here's a million dollars, right?
That's probably the fair deal.
No, their sunglasses are a lot cheaper than that.
And with Cody Yanks, you will get 50 percent off
two plus pairs of polarized sunglasses at shady rays dot com.
So it's Cody Yanks, 50 percent off two or more pairs of polarized sunnies.
Get yourself a couple pairs for the upcoming baseball season, baby.
Get him as a gift.
Thanks, Shady Rays.
Going to be wearing them a lot this week.
Facts. Big facts only.
Fact. They announced the rotation, Jim, or kind of.
Yeah, that was cool that Booney did that.
It's a little interesting, but also makes sense.
And I also think it like my interpretation of it was, OK,
so Clark and Schmidt are both going to make the roster.
Nestor is going to be the fifth out the gate
because he's a little setback.
That's like the news of it, right?
Yeah, basically, you know, we've been wondering what's up with Nestor.
A video came out, him and Cole doing a little I was going to say long toss
and then I was going to say mid toss, but I don't say mid anymore.
So we've all been pretty mid.
We've kind of been wondering what's up with Nestor.
He bowed out of the WBC.
We heard about the hammy.
Yeah. And I mean, the fact I got a pretty good chuckle,
John, if I can call you that,
because, you know, Nestor has a good conversation
for the two or three or four or whatever.
I think it's funny that them saying Nestor would pitch on April 4th,
which would be the fifth game of the year
instead of the fourth is kind of like that was the conversation
people were latching on to, because I mean, I like Cole and Rodon
back to back, obviously, and then I'm just a weird guy.
I think Joe Torrey programmed it in my head that like lefties and righties
following each other is better in a lineup and pitching.
So I think it's funny in this in my head, if I was setting up the rotation,
this just has one game flipped.
But I do like what you said,
although you did say Clark and Schmidt instead of Schmidt and Hermann.
The fact that they said both of them will be
like the fact they've already said that means they're both going
and they're not going to do
like funny business with Clark to start the season. I don't know.
Yeah, I mean, it's Hermann spot if they do just take one.
Like I, I think that competition with the options and the results
has ended.
But also the way it works out is that and he's talked about
not wanting to do a six man because he doesn't want to mess up her
Rodon and Cole.
Luna said something along those lines and the way the off days work.
The one and two starters can stay on normal rotation
because the off day comes after them, I believe.
So if you wanted to keep them regular right at the gate, you could.
But also, I think they might just
push everyone back to on one day
extra rest after this and stay on a five man.
And I think that that Hermann Clark, that Hermann spot,
the fourth game might be a straight up piggyback.
Hermann and Clark both pitching in it.
I think so. I think that's that's that's how I kind of and
they didn't really hint at it that way, but that was just immediately
when I saw it, I said, oh, they're going to piggyback them.
I mean, the way when when they phrase it like that, you kind of have to.
Yeah. And I think it makes sense, too.
And we've seen the Yankees early on in the season.
Those first couple of weeks are a building week that I I think it would be funny
if they were like those first time through is like the first one.
Hermann starts and Clark follows him out of the bullpen.
If the second one, Clark starts, Hermann follows it.
That'd be silly.
That'd be silly. Half fair.
But yeah, it was it was I was I was half impressed by the Yankees
that they put this out into the ether
at this point, a spring training, but maybe our spring training math is off
because like they started announcing guys to the to the minor league
spring training camp after last night's game.
So I don't know.
They did two rounds of that.
Our guy Snellen was in the first round.
The chat helped us out there.
And every time that happens.
And this is where I'm getting set up for absolute failure.
And I've been warning people about this forever.
I I'm like, they did it. They traded them.
And then it's just like they sent some guys to minor league camp.
I'm back in the game, man.
Those roster move notifications are and lineups are lighting up my eyes
of like a like a *******
we're a national treasure.
And it's like the next clue has arrived or a video game.
And out of nowhere, they're like, the next clue has arrived.
And that's when I get those lights.
Like, oh, we got a clue.
We got a clue. We got a clue.
What's it mean? What's it mean?
I can't fit short back.
That's how it's been.
Yeah, I'm in it.
That's good.
Herman looks really good.
You like a zero on him?
No, it's such a bad number.
It's kind of you know what?
That was like I thought like that was Mopi Herman.
Like, you know, the interviews he's done, he's like turning a new leaf,
maturing, but going to zero as a number is like Mopi.
Usually, I think that's someone who
considers himself a zero.
It's either either a zero or they think there are 100.
I took I took it as like, oh, he's not even double zero.
I took it as like I've been to rock bottom.
Like I've been I've been to zero.
The fact that he had to give up his number to Rodan
made it seem even more sadder.
Like, oh, yeah.
Oh, let's just take zero, I guess.
I'm still so mad at the Yankees whenever I see Volpe and Parazza's numbers.
Yeah, that's such a mess.
At least Volpe is.
It's his first.
This is his first MLB spring training, right?
So that that happens.
But Parazza shouldn't be in the 90s anymore.
For those that are listening to this, that haven't
watched any of the spring training games.
Volpe is. Yeah.
Like. He is a ball player's ball player.
He's in control.
It's not a ball player's ball player. That's DJ.
Volpe is a fan's ball player.
Yeah, he's like electric without.
Yeah, not without trying.
Not even like electric.
A different, a different version of Cabrera
because he's electric and like so loud and exuberant.
Yeah. And this is like a little more like rock steady.
But when that sun shines it right.
Oh, it glows.
He's fun to watch.
It's a game like he.
It's a game of failure.
And whenever I see Volpe, I expect something good to happen.
And for you, it was up yesterday and he just after judge hit his home run.
I think he had a three one count.
And I was like, oh, I wonder if he's going to go deep here.
You know, swing big here.
They were up like seven nothing.
And he just stayed within himself
and just hammered a ball for a single right up the middle.
Got the first.
Then he did get picked off, but whatever.
And I was like, oh, ----, that's actually more impressive than him,
like swinging out of his shoes to join the home run parade.
So when he does come and I'm I'm fine, like I said,
I'm not going to really get mad at him, but he's he's fun.
I hope he I hope he's doing the damn thing in big leagues
and I'll give him some wiggle room if we need to.
Yeah, that's a I hope, Jim, here's what I hope.
Welcome to Jake's hopes.
I peacefully are just that kind of feeling that I have of
will I be relieved when it's over?
Jake, please stop. You're hurting me.
No, I'm excited.
I think there's going to be a part, you know, mid April, early May
that like Volpe season will be upon us.
And man, is that going to be a fun time?
I mean, when we actually get to watch him every day.
I mean, what's what's the recent comparison?
Is it Glaber?
He was the last to come up from the baby bombers and, you know, big prospect.
We wanted to see him every day.
There's hype around him as a minor leaguer.
Really call him up.
But I get. Yeah, and he was really fun, but he was in the midst of it.
You know, like everyone was still young that year.
And I guess Glaber's Glaber's coolest party trick
is adjusting to like off speed pitches, which is cool.
And when he does it like it's bad ass.
But Volpe's party tricks are like, whoa, like
Glaber's kind of a quarter behind the ear.
And you're like, nice that that was back there.
Volpe is like he's pulling strings out of his throat.
I have something to say that's that's cool.
Different colors.
Yeah. And like it keeps coming.
Like at first, you're like, all right, dude, nice.
You had some you had some string in your mouth this whole time.
And then you're like, wow, I don't think he's a jokester, though.
Volpe hates jokes.
I think his dad likes jokes, though.
So I think Glaber comes in like cuts the string on him as a joke.
But it's part of it. Yeah.
I had a rude thought.
Do you want to share it?
It's like rude for no reason.
It's rude for no reason.
So no, I'd actually don't want to.
I wouldn't want anyone to clip it and put it on social media.
And then I have to deal with the pushback of that.
Right. I'll share it privately. All right.
Well, it's about a guy who was with the Yankees and changed his name
and then changed it back and is now with other teams.
Did change it back.
Having a good spring.
Yeah. Oh, I'll tell you.
I'll tell you.
I think for him.
Yeah. All right.
I think that's all everything.
That's it, isn't it?
We're going to do the Joe's McFly over under episode next.
Yeah. Voicemails, comments, pizza.
What do we tell people?
Uh, I don't know if we can do voicemails, but sometimes it's easier
when we just kind of like have it down or I guess we always done voicemails.
It's going to be put out the tweet this morning.
So it's got to be tidy.
A long voicemails. Tight voicemails.
Tight voicemails.
All right. Peace and chicken grease.
Go, Yanks. Tell him, Grams.
Go, Yankees.
