In Konstantinovka, Russians tried to portray the situation as if the city had already been captured. Both Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and his press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, have made such statements. This was stated by military analyst and editor-in-chief of the German publication BILD, Julian Röpke, ininterview Current Time TV channel .

"I think, in fact, about a third of the city is still under Ukrainian control, although Russian groups are infiltrating it. These are small groups of one or two people who enter the city with a flag. About two-thirds of the city is either in the 'red' zone or in the 'gray zone.' This means that there are at least comparable numbers of Russian and Ukrainian troops there," he noted.

"This means that, as before, there are static Ukrainian positions there. Dozens, if not hundreds, of Ukrainian soldiers likely remain in the basements of these areas. But at the same time, hundreds of Russian soldiers are also there, moving from house to house. They are also fortifying themselves in basements and cellars, and sometimes, perhaps, even in former Ukrainian army trench systems. This is precisely what the 'gray zone' means," the journalist explained.

Röpke added that this doesn't mean the entire territory is a zone where Russian occupiers are being eliminated. It does mean that moving from point A to point B is extremely dangerous for both sides, and that drones from both sides are everywhere.

"And, as can be seen in some videos, the soldiers don't realize until the very last moment whether the drone above them is their own or the enemy's. This makes their lives even more at risk," the analyst emphasized.

Röpke also previously believed that Russia could capture Slavyansk or Kramatorsk this year, as his forecast was based on mathematical calculations. At the time, Russia was capturing up to 500 square kilometers per month in Ukraine.

"Right now, I'd say it's highly likely that Kostyantynivka will fall under Russian control this year. We'll also likely see part of Lyman transform into a true 'gray zone.' So far, we've seen Russian soldiers or commanders in various areas of Lyman. But, as far as I understand, on the DeepState map, most of the city is still marked blue under Ukrainian control. This means that Russian soldiers were killed after raising their flags. I think within a year, the city could become a 'gray zone' in the sense I just described," the BILD editor-in-chief emphasized.

The journalist added that currently, Russia's forward positions are still 11-12 km east of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, so it is difficult to say exactly what will happen next.

"If we look at the territory Ukraine lost after Siversk and extrapolate this speed of advance, then Russian troops will reach both major cities in November or December. However, I think that Ukraine's actions behind the front lines, especially attacks on logistics, could slow this advance. In that case, by the end of the year, Russian troops could be approximately five to six kilometers east of these two cities," the expert believes.
