MOTORHOME Trip Santander to Southern Spain in 2 nights | Free Aires on route

Hey, hey, hey. Well, excitement overload. We've just docked in Spain, haven't we Gary? We have, it's great, isn't it? Yeah, we've been told to come down to our vehicles now, which is brilliant. Gary's setting up the sat-nav because we desperately need some LPG. I don't know, we use loads of LPG while we're in the UK for heating, I think, wouldn't it? Oh, it went quite a bit quickly this time, didn't it? It did. So that's our first stop. We are going to head towards Valladolid. I always say it a bit wrong, so I'm relying on my pronunciation expert to help me out. But we've had a great time in the UK. We've absolutely loved seeing our family. Big shout out to everyone. We just had a brilliant time, didn't we? We did, it was fantastic, wasn't it? It was brilliant. But now we're going to pay the piper because we're half greedy. In fact, we've made a bantham. I think we should share our bantham with you, don't you, Gary? I do not think we should share our bantham. We should share our bantham. So this is how our bantham goes now. Right, are we ready, Gary? We're trough, trough, trough, trough, troughing, troughing like a piggy on speed. We're trough, trough, trough, trough, troughing, eating way more than we need. So we've started to sing that when we get in the van because we've realised that van life makes us fat life. Anyway, heading back home where we'll be back on a bit more of a control. Yes, a control few months. A novel daily life. Right, so we'll show you what it's like as we offload but obviously not through security and then we'll show you where we're parking up tonight, filling up LPG in Spain. If you're heading to Spain, this might be of interest to you because this next episode will show you a few stops as we head down south. Right, we're all starting to offload. It's been a while actually. There's a contiki, look. Oh, fella contiki-er. And we're off, getting off at Santander. I can taste the tapas in you, Gary. Yes, we shouldn't be tasting the tapas but I can taste it. We're probably not going to do anything today actually. We've got to get some shopping in. Farewell. Which was this ship again? Was this the Salamanca? No. Yes, yes, this was the Salamanca. This was the Salamanca. It was the Galicia we came out on, wasn't it? Yeah, so we went out from Bilbao and then we came into Santander. So you kind of have to go around a bend here to get out. It's not too bad. It had a bit of a ramp getting on it though, didn't it? When we got on at Portsmouth. Yeah. It was a bit of a ramp. I didn't like that much. Gary waited till the ramp was clear. Okay, so we're going down the little ramp. Doesn't seem too bad. And the only reason I waited for the ramp to be clear going in was because it was it was quite steep and I didn't want to put any more pressure on the clutch. Well yeah, we didn't want to be halfway up a ramp, did we? No. It's much steeper than this one for instance. But most people were doing the same, a similar sort of thing I noticed. Yeah, here we go. We're just about to come off the boat now. We have actually done a ferry crossing, haven't we? Portsmouth to Santander. Yeah. There's quite a few times we've done a bit parking around this area. There we go. Santander is a gorgeous location if you haven't been here before and you can park up when you're due to get onto your ferry and take your ticket and go into town and have a little look around. There's loads of restaurants and stuff, so that's the pedestrian gate that you can walk through to go to town if you're parked here. See, these are guys are waiting to get onto the ferry. It's a good location Santander. I bet there's a few gutted people there waiting to go back. I bet there is. Oh, look at that green one. That's a nice one, isn't it? It is, isn't it? Look at that one. There's some amazing motorhomes. Right, first stop LPG. Very excited. I feel like Gary's not been very well. You weren't very well in the ship, were you? No, not very. He had some sort of cold, you know, a bit of a man flu. A moment from death. I'm not going to say anything because I don't want to catch it. The thing is, it's always when we're in like a really little cabin or something and he touches all my stuff. It's like, get off everything, you're ill. Right, we're through customs and we're just going to head out. It's about, I think according to this, four minutes away. We'll put the what three words on, so if you do need some LPG, you'll know where to come. Pretty little roundabout. Look at this. Isn't that lovely? So we've come to the Repsol garage. Is it already on the pumps, is it Gary, this one? This one, yeah. Ah right, so Gary's found it. It's the orange one, isn't it? And do you need a different connector, do you say? Yes, I need to get my adapter out. And you just got your adapters from Amazon, didn't you? Yes, yeah, a set of three. So I've got a Spanish one, a French one and a North American one. I've just realised the shop's got some bread in there and everything. We've got nothing in the van, so I might just pick up some for lunch, that'd be ideal. So I can't really film outside because we're in a forecourt obviously with the phone, but there's some sort of drama going on with Gary. The lady and Gary can't communicate and he's trying to get somebody to translate, but I'm not sure what's going on. Gary will tell us in a minute. So what's happened? She's saying it's not allowed to film bottles here, but I said we'd film all the time. Oh, she's going to allow it? Right, okay, great. The problem initially she said you're not allowed, it's forbidden, and then he got involved and she went oh well maybe it is. Because she thought it was standalone bottles. Even though I told her that they were connected in the system. Oh right, so that was what the drama was. I could see all this going on. We've been here quite a while now haven't we? Oh never mind, fingers crossed we'll get it, we'll get it hopefully. Well done. So after all that you managed to get some in didn't you? How much was it? I managed to fill up the big bottle, it was seven euros, so that's an 11 kilogram bottle. You know you had to hold the thing down. You had to hold the button down, but I let it go too early, so it just stopped and I couldn't be arse going to her and say uh-oh I let my finger off, can you restart it? No that'll do it anyway, so you got the 11 kilo one. 11 kilos 4, so that'll do us all the way home anyway. And we've got, just for context, we've got a 6 kilo and an 11 kilo haven't we? So if you're wondering about the price of fuel and whether you fill up in the UK or you wait till you get to the Spain, our advice is a bit put enough fuel in the tank to get you a little way from the port really isn't it? Yeah definitely. The price in the UK was around about £40 wasn't it? Yeah, in Portsmouth near the port. When you get a few pence or around some fuel. We stop at a Lidl and grab a bit of shopping. So we just popped into Lidl and I've picked up a little bit of shopping to tie the sofa. We spent just over 30 euros and honestly we've had, we've already had our lunch because we couldn't wait, couldn't we Gary? So we had a ham roll and a bit of pate. So effectively I bought some bread, I actually found a little bit of carrot cake, I was like oh yes please. Eggs, milk. I've got a ready-made lasagna, I don't normally buy one but I thought it's really easy to pop it in the oven. Got a tortilla because I like those. Some lovely organic tomatoes, onions and everything. Bottle of wine. 36 euros, that's all we spent. Quite a nice little view from our Lidl car park as well. It's been really nice. Now Gary's just found another spot on Search for Sights that we think we're going to head towards and it's a little bit before Villa Dolid isn't it? Yes a little bit before that, a little bit after Palencia. A place Okay and it's got free electric we think, don't we? It's got free electric, yes. But it sounds like it gets busy. Yeah it does. Let's see if we can get in. So according to the trusty sat nav we should be there at 4.41 shouldn't we or 4.42, quarter to five. So we really want to get there before it gets dark. If it's full it's full and we'll push on but that's the plan isn't it? That is the plan. The current plan. Okay so we're going to fill up in a bit and we will show you the prices. Okay here's the fuel station I've seen online, E94. You have to come round a little bit to get to it but Gary's realised it's 1.32 because it's always cheaper here for diesel isn't it Gary? Yes so it's 1.32.9. That's not bad at all, great price. Okay well Gary's put just what 59 litres in, might be able to squeeze 60 litres in there and it's about 78 euros, that's not bad. So we're about 25 kilometres away from our destination and one thing we would say is the A67 has quite a lot of road issues so it's a bit bumpy and the motorhome doesn't like that kind of bumping does it? It's not keen, there's a couple of electrical connectors that don't like being shaken about. No it is pretty bumpy, they're obviously trying to renew it because there's some areas it's really smooth but that's just, we probably wouldn't take this route again would we? We take the turning for Villa Muriel de Cerrato and head for the air that we've spotted on So this is in quite a residential area, we've just gone past a deer shop, DIA, not expensive, or as Gary once thought I was saying there's a deer, he thought I meant an animal deer. Okay so it's supposed to be on the right hand side, there you go Gary it's up there, we can spot the air now, there's somebody's in it already, we don't know if there's any spaces or if there's loads of space, it looks like there's quite a bit of space to be honest. Right it did, we did read that there was electricity but I'm not sure there is, is it? Crikey there's quite a few people, oh they're all on hard standing, oh Christ it's a bloody car park isn't it really? It is. Oh no but there's nothing, there's no room at the bloody We move on, there's still plenty of light. Right we think we're gonna have to move on don't we because there is no room here and the other side of it is just pure bogginess so now we need to regroup. I mean check that out, we can't park on that, no it's too boggy. Okay Gary's gonna turn around and I'm gonna get on search for sites, see what we can find. Well these people have, these people have done all right but this is what it looks like if you do come, it's effectively a car park, they've all got what looks like electricity running. The problem is Gary, because it's got free electricity it's always going to be a real chance to take it and looking at it it's a real mixture of nationalities, loads of Spanish actually. I've seen a couple of Brits and a few Germans. Oh you saw a couple of Brits? Yeah. Do we need to empty while we're here? I think so, my heart can't hurt. I think we emptied just before we left though didn't we? Never pass up a toilet. Gary's emptying the black, lovely. He's sort of suggesting why don't we park over the road where this sort of swimming pool thing is but actually it's like an indoor kids play area and it's open till 11. So that wouldn't really be an ideal spot I don't think either. I'm gonna have a check on search for sites. Okay with a bit of my research head on, we think we found somewhere don't we Gary? So we're going to a place called but it's only about eight kilometers away so we're giving that a whirl. No Alecki or nothing but we're not, it looks quite nice, that'll do for the night. If not we'll push on to the next one but that's the great thing about Spain, it's not usually that far till you'll find somewhere. Right so just off the 67 is Duenas, we think it's pronounced. It's probably horrendously pronounced but anyway. Oh it's got, well sat-nav's calling its dinners so we might be a step above the sat-nav, might. Okay here we go, we're coming off here. So we think it's just two kilometers off the slip road and a couple of the comments have said that this is a noisy one, you can hear the road so maybe that's what it is but there's apparently a nice canal walk, there we go. What's this? Oh yeah lovely, look at that. I'm not sure if there's much going on here but we're not looking for anything major today are we? Anyway we're getting quite tired. Okay we've just seen the little motorhome sign so we know where to go. I think you've got to do one of those where you come around or something love, must be a little bit further ahead. No it won't be, it won't be down there, don't don't go down them love. Here it is, you didn't need to turn up there, we could have just turned around and come this way, this looks like it. So there's your dump and your water. That's the noisy road. That's the noisy road by all accounts yeah. To be honest this is okay if we can if we can get a space that's nice and flat. Obviously you've got some like kids and families hanging around but that's all right, there's nothing wrong with that. Okay so do we want to try and find somewhere a bit flat hun? Yes. Right so we parked up here in the corner, not a bad spot. You can tell that the road might be a little noisy, there's a few kids playing around here but they're not doing any harm, they're just having a play and it's got a nice monument here and a couple of services. Gary's going to put some chocks on though because it is it's not level or anything but it's okay, yeah it's quite nice actually. A little bit of walking, I think we're going to stretch our legs, we feel like we haven't walked for days since we've been on the ferry. There seems to be a monument here, all sorts of different political statements on it I think, maybe it's kind of like a world monument or something. It's a lovely sunset, look at that tonight. Okay here's the services. So you're good for water, there's a tap there, looks like that's for your grey. It's got a few leaves and everything on it and then they've got a little map here, got a few things what services they've got here. So yeah they've got water, toilet and grey waste. I'm not sure where you put your black, I wouldn't think it was in the same spot. Ah there we go, there's your black. That's good, that's good, it's got everything here that you could want, it's great. Hey listen, it's free, it's a nice little location. So we're going for a little walk just to stretch our legs a bit, found a little town, it's just a couple of, well minutes away really isn't it, it's not that far at all and then we're just going to see what's around here. Probably just going to go back and relax in the van in a bit aren't we? But it's a pretty little town, feels nice and safe doesn't it? It does doesn't it? I'm not sure that that car sounds very healthy are we? Gary says there's four huge nests at the top of this old building here, what a stunning building, but you reckon there might be storks don't you? I think there might be storks yeah. We take a little walk around the town and find that most of the restaurants are shut, but it's still a really pleasant walk and we really enjoyed it. Right the lasagna is ready and this is that one I bought in Lidl, it's pretty nice, it was €5.69 I think, very easy and we're absolutely shattered. So we're going to dish that up, we've got a nice little bottle of wine going and some of the bread. Chin chin folks. Chin chin Gary, we'll see you in the morning. Well good morning, we slept all right didn't we? It wasn't too bad actually, the noise was there up until about sort of midnight one-ish, but after that it died down. Well you say that, I woke up at four for a tinkle and it was still going so, but it's Saturday night last night and in Spain they do stay up really late don't they? You know and then it tends to be a bit quieter on a Sunday morning you know that everybody would probably be going to church or whatever. It was quiet this morning, it didn't disturb me getting back to sleep I'll be honest, but you weren't well last night again. No still not good, so maybe another day or so. Yeah poor old Gary, he's been feeling proper crook but it hasn't let him get him down at all. Right you've done all the services this morning have you? What do you think of the services on this little bit? Here really good, it's a concrete patch which has a bowl in it where the grate is, so you don't need your pipes or anything like that, you can just empty the grate out which is fantastic. The water, the fresh water is a good 10-15 feet away from the black area which is just a bit more hygienic I think. Yeah yeah, it's got everything. I hate that when the black is right with the fresh water it's a bit like, I know, even though realistically they're not contaminating each other it's just psychologically. So I've done my bits, when Gary does his I always put a bit of bicarbonate of soda down the sink, what I do is I just pop it in the bowl, mix it with some water and then pour that down and that sort of makes sure that the grey tank doesn't smell and it works a treat. I mean this one, I bought this little one with me, I buy this in Spain but you can get bicarbonate of soda anywhere and that one's lasted me pretty much the whole trip, because I only put maybe you know a tablespoon if that, a teaspoon, two tablespoons. And it seems to really work, in fact it's better than some of those things you buy, which are quite expensive, you know the sort of the liquidy stuff that you've got to pour down, that's a treat. Yeah, so top tip for you this morning. Right, we are heading off towards Albacete today. That's the plan, we're going to see how far we get, we've got another 700 kilometres or so to get home haven't we, but we'll probably do one more vlog after this on Albacete where we stay tonight, but I think this one's going to be wrapped up here.
