Motorhomes Aires Spain | Drive from Southern Spain to Ferry Port Bilbao

Hey, hey, hey, welcome back to the channel. Okay, so today we're on our way back to the UK, aren't we love? We are, we're heading up to Bilbao. We're going to get the ferry from Bilbao to Portsmouth and this video is going to take you on the journey from the south of Spain all the way up to Bilbao. Now, we're looking at stopping in three places, aren't we? Yeah, we are. I was getting about five fingers out there then, so one, two, three. Three locations on the way up and we're going to show you those locations. We've spotted the first one tonight in a place called San Clemente. San Clemente. Now, it's a motorhome air, we think, isn't it? Just outside of town and it's about 300 kilometers from our start off point. Yeah, it's about halfway between Albacete and Madrid, I think. And so the journey up to Bilbao or to Santander is around about 900 kilometers from the coast of Spain. So it's not a short journey. Some people I know like to do it in one day, maybe two, but we kind of like to take our time a bit, don't we? Yeah, we want to see what's around us and enjoy it rather than just race down and see nothing. Yeah, I mean, don't get me wrong, if we've had to race down, we do, don't we? If you're short for time or anything. But this is a three-day stop to show you exactly where you can stay on the way heading up to Bilbao or Santander. Now, we found this park up on search for sites, but if you're just relying on Google Maps, you need to remember that it's not necessarily motorhome that you want to be. It's what do they call it? Auto caravan. Auto caravan in Spain. And in France, if you're going through France, it's camping car. So sometimes if you look, you know, camping car air or auto parking, it comes up with a lot more options than if you just look at motorhome. As we're driving along, it seems to look really cloudy and ominous, doesn't it, Gary? It does. Crikey. There's been some terrible rain down on the southern coast just before we left, a little bit of flooding in the Alicante region. Oh yeah, we literally just drove into this rain. So we're just going to take it easy and hopefully we might drive through it. Gotta love a Spanish ball. We see quite a few of these all over Spain, don't we? We love these. Look at this, they're brilliant. Okay, so we've got roughly 60 kilometers to get to our destination. There it is. Restaurant Gary Sol. Oh look, Gary Sol. Gary Sol the second. The first one's here. We arrive at the air in San Clemente, which is walking distance to the town of San Clemente. It's got a long car park in front of it, and it's just outside of a cemetery. Now this free air does have full services, but it doesn't have electric hookup. Oh look, Gary, look at that. It's a little monument. Oh wonderful. Okay, so we're going to take this one. I'm not entirely sure why this guy's got two spots. I think he might be saving one for a friend, but we're going to take this one and give ourselves this view, which is quite nice. Yeah, lovely. So we're 7.4 meters or seven and a half meters, and we've pretty much taken up a whole bay. Gary's going to move forward slightly anyway. He's going to put it on a levelling ramp. So there's basically 10 pitches. I'm presuming somebody's trying to save a pitch there. Really, really quite nice. Okay, here's your drop-off point, and there's a couple of rules. Maximum parking of 72 stroke 96 hours. I'm not sure which one it is. You're not allowed to take out tables, chairs, barbecues, etc. This is because it's in air. Please don't do it. The area must be kept in perfect cleaning condition, so keep it really clean. When using the filling and emptying terminal, be careful not to spill liquids outside the sink and grill and leave everything clean. No car washing in the area. Failure to observe these rules will be punished. The Mayor. Well, thank you very much, Mayor, because this is free. So, you know, please do what they ask. There's a bin there, look, and it's dead quiet. Lovely. Tons of space here. It's absolutely brilliant. Fantastic little town. I'm going to have a little walk up there in a bit to see what's going on up there, but there's definitely, it looks like there's plenty of walking. It's a bit rainy, but we're really happy with this. This is a great air. So our dinner's ready. I've made a bit of chicken, which I've just did in the oven, with a little bit of spice, some homemade tzatziki that I brought from home, and some mixed peppers and mushrooms that I did from home. It's gorgeous, doesn't it? Delicious. And we've been deciding where we're going tomorrow. We've sort of changed our plan a little. We're heading to a castle, aren't we? Yes, we are. About 260 kilometers away from here, just off the main drive by about 10 or 15 kilometers, but it's away from the big cities and obviously what's going on tomorrow. Tomorrow night is going to be very busy all over Spain. So to put a bit of context in it, it's going to be busy tomorrow in Spain because it's national day in Spain tomorrow, isn't it? It is. So we've popped to the town for a walk in the morning, and there's a lovely restaurant. You just literally walk straight up the street there from the campsite, and then you've got a few little bits and pieces. This is the town, but I think it'd be really nice at night because there seems to be lots of lights here. So there's a town map just up where the square is really, and it shows you all different places that you can go and visit. They've really thought this through. What time is it now, love? About nine o'clock. And it's Sunday morning. It's actually national day here in Spain. As you can see, it's a bit overcast, but it's all a bit shut up at the moment, but I reckon come the evening this is going to be absolutely buzzing. So we decided to stop at the local cafe right around the corner from the air. If you look out there, you can see the Motorhome sign. We've got a couple of coffees, and what did we order to eat? Some tostada con tomato, which is basically tomatoes on toast, which is a lovely breakfast staple around here. Okay, yeah, we'll see what it's like when it comes out. Oh, nice one, Gary. There's the tostada. So what you basically do is you pour a little bit of olive oil onto your bread that they give you, then you pop your tomato on and sprinkle with salt if you want. It's really delicious, honestly. It's lovely, isn't it? I can't wait. We've just ordered another coffee. We'll let you know how much it costs when we get it all together. How much was that, love? It was nine euros for four coffees and two lovely tostadas. That's not bad at all, is it? No, that's really good. Okay, we're all good to go. It's 364 kilometers till our next destination, which is Castilla de Haza, isn't it? Yes, in the Burgos region. Yeah, it's in the Burgos region, and it's a small Motorhome there we're hoping we can get in, and there's a lovely restaurant that's on site nearby, right by the castle, so fingers crossed we can get a space. What time are we setting off now, love? Oh, it's five to ten. Five to ten, not bad. We're just letting the water drip from the roof. You know, we're just on an angle. It started gushing out. This has been combed for about three minutes solid now, so it was raining a lot last night. So we've traveled well over a hundred kilometers, just over a hundred kilometers, and we've seen diesels at 139 here, so we're going to fill her up because we know that's pretty good. The average seems to be about 150. Yeah, take the opportunity. So we're just getting to our first toll here, and we'll sort of tot up the prices to see how much it's cost us to get from pretty much the south of Spain right up to the ferry port. So this toll is 2.40 euros. That's not too bad. We're nearly all the way around the ring road now, and we're heading on the A1 to Burgos. So we're going to come off the main road now, so we're currently on the A1 towards Burgos, but we're going to take this road, the A11 towards Valladolid, and it's only a couple more kilometers, I think, let me see, I think 16 kilometers now to get to destination, so it's not too far off the the main road. So you're going to take the turn off to Hazza itself. Oh, it's absolutely stunning coming up here to be honest, and it's a really cloudy day, but it's not taking away the majesticness of it all. But you do have to climb a little, don't you? Yeah, you do. Vineyards on one side and sunflowers on the other. Oh yeah, there's a sunflower field. Wow, they must be collecting the seeds from that. Oh, this looks wonderful, Gary. I'm so excited to kind of coming up here, and Gary's just made a really good point, he said he's glad he's not doing this in the dark. Yeah, you wouldn't, you know, always give yourself enough time to get to a place in case, well for a start, if there's no spaces up there. But you can see the road, this is the road going up. Well, I thought we'd show you it because it is quite narrow, isn't it love? It is, but it's not mega narrow because we did just pass that. Yeah, that's true. We had to breathe in, but we did pass. That's the story of our life. Okay, oh gosh, so I'm pretty glad that there is some barriers there. Yeah, me too. So you come around like this, it's actually not, it's not as bad as some roads we've been to, and there's apparently only about 10 people that live up here, to be honest. Oh wow, this looks so interesting. Oh yeah, let's go in there because that's a great view as well. I wonder why that van's there. Okay, so we're just pulling around here, this looks like it's over here. So, oh yeah, that is some view, isn't it? Wow, wow, wow. We'll go the other way. Oh yeah, good point. So this must be the air, there's some water there. We can go here. Oh, their door's that side, which is a bit of a pain. But anyway, what to do? Oh wow, this is really very nice. I think we're going to change our position, aren't we? Yeah, despite the fact that there's an amazing view. Yeah, which it is. I think even with the ramps, we're still two down. So there is a spot we've noticed where we can be Yeah, so we've parked up at the top, we've gone sideways, but all the way down there is a little walkway and we think the restaurant's only about a three-minute walk away. So we're just going to have a look, get our bearings because we're going to come out for dinner later on tonight. How gorgeous is this walkway? And there's streetlights here as well, so we expect it looks really nice lit up at night. Lovely, look at that. Look how thick those walls are. Wow, look at this. It's quite windy, but it's beautiful. You can see where we're parked, just at the top there. Wow, look at this. So there's a little square, literally it's three minutes walk if that, and this is where the restaurant is. So there's some outside seating and obviously some inside as well. That was the vineyard we just passed with that ornate gate. Really? About a mile down the road. This is inside the restaurant, it's beautiful and they sell local wine as well. It's a lovely little viewing point as well, just outside where the restaurant square is. We just asked the guy if we booked a table anyway, didn't we? He said tonight probably do need to book, so obviously it gets busy not just from the campgrounds but from the local towns and villages. I can see why with views like this. It looks like a beautiful restaurant doesn't it? It does. So there is a map here and this is the wine route and you'll see where we are. So this is where we are, Haza, and then the nearest town is like Aranda del Duero, but I would imagine that the wine's going to be amazing here tonight. So ready already Gary? Let's get tidied up! So we've just come up to sort of where the castle and tower area are and there is a barcode. You're just having a quick look to see what it does, aren't you? Yes. Any joy? Open 365 days a year That's as far as we've got, but we're not sure. We read somewhere that you can get a code and go into the tower. You've just got to tell it where you are. We're in Burgos, did you say? Yes, the province you mean? Yeah, we are. Okay. So Gary got a QR code, so you've got a code now to get into here, haven't you? Yeah. Okay, let's go and have a look. Lewis just said don't come up because he couldn't get in, but you set the appointment for five. You have a time slot, do you? Okay, we'll come back at five. It's quarter past four. So this is really the air. It's just a nice little car park, a lovely little play park for the kids. Oh, there's even an exercise thing, Gary. But this is your facility. So talk me through this, hun. What have we got here? Right, so you've got water and it's potable. Okay, is it free? It's free, yeah. Wow. That's your lift that thing up and that's your black waste. Right, what does it go in that little skinny thing? You flush it with that. Oh, I see. What I read on the search for sites was whilst there's no obvious grey waste, if you lift up that grate, your grey goes down there. Okay, well that's not too bad, is it? No. Well, I'll show you how close we are to the tower. See where the other motorhome is there? That's where the tower is that Gary's got a code for for five o'clock. So we're going to come back and have a little look at that and then we're going to go to the restaurant, aren't we? We are. I can't wait. I'm looking forward to that. Me too. It looks beautiful, doesn't it? So there's even these little pedlo things. It looks as if it's quite hard work. What's wrong with that one? Is it stiff? Oh, right. You read your paper, you get your thousand steps in. I'll tell you what, it's a really lovely setup, isn't it? It's great, isn't it? Right, we've come out to dinner and it's a little early. It's absolutely rammed in there, so we don't know if we're going to have to wait for our table or what, but we're all right sitting out here anyway. It's gorgeous, isn't it? Yeah, we will. I will go and get some wine shortly. Yes, he's trying to book onto the tower, so we had a five o'clock at the tower. Anyway, I think we missed our slot slightly, so we couldn't get in the tower, so he's trying to book it for tomorrow. But then I saw the steps and I thought I'm not going up them steps because I've got proper dodgy knees, so I won't go up them, but you're going to go to my right now. I've now got a different code that will work at eight or nine o'clock in the morning. Okay, well he's on his own. He's going to do it, but he'll take some photos for you. I'm going to be busy drinking wine tonight. I ain't going to go up no tower at nine o'clock in the morning. Okay, it's a cracking menu, so they've got some really nice starters, including homemade croquettes. If you haven't had croquettes, you've got to get them. They've got fish, salads. Prices aren't too bad, so starters range from sort of 4.80 up to 15 euros, but they do a great deal. So they do a grill for two people, and that's two steaks, two chorizos, a couple of lamb chops, some black pudding, which Gary can have, some pork and some bacon. So I think we're going to go for that, aren't we? I think so, yeah. That sounds amazing, and we might get some croquettes to start. We've started on the wine already, but this is our idea of hair ban. And there's also a goat's cheese salad. Yeah, a nice accompaniment to that. Gary, have you seen how much food we're ordering? I don't know if we need a main salad as a side. We've got our bag, babes, and we're on the road for the next two days. We've got elasticated pants, so we're all right. Well, this has been a brilliant stopover. Gary's just going to turn the wagon around. He's going to empty the grey. He's done the loo already this morning, but wow, fantastic restaurant, lovely location. It's nice and bright this morning. Yeah, it's been really good. Cracking little air. So if you are coming this way, I would recommend you come and stop here. You're just lifting the grey up then to do the grey? Yeah. So he's sorting out the grey water now, but this is brilliant. It's got everything you need. There is water there as well, isn't there, if we want to top up. Right, perfect night, wasn't it, last night? It was amazing, wasn't it? Absolutely lovely. We had a really lovely meal as well, so really recommend you go down to that restaurant. It was great fun, wasn't it, last night? It was, yeah. Lovely atmosphere in there as well, because there's quite a lot of people in there. Yeah, it was brilliant. This is a really good stopover. So we're heading straight up to Bilbao now, aren't we? Yes. And we've got one more stop to show you, and now we're hoping to get into the air that's very close to the port, aren't we? Yes, that's right. I think they said there's about 15 spots, so hopefully we'll get one of them. Now, we have been to the port before in Santander, and we found it really claustrophobic, so we didn't stay in there. So we may end up changing our mind. But having a bit of electricity can be useful tonight, although it's not essential, is it? No. Because we're on the ferry tomorrow anyway, and you can bring everything on the ferry. Yeah, that's right. And get a nice shower on there and everything. So anyway, we'll show you the next one. This is the second stop, and it's been absolutely magic, isn't it? It has. Right, just set the sat-nav, and it's 266 kilometers to the area where the free air is, it is actually. We've just had a quick look on search for sites, and it's a free air. There's 12 parking spots. Now, there's quite a few options in Bilbao, we've noticed, isn't there? Yeah, there is a few. They're free and paid for. Yeah, most of them look free, to be honest. So we're going to try this free air tonight, and if not, you can park in the ferry port, we think, but you've got to arrive between four o'clock and seven o'clock in order to be able to go and park. So we'll just check it out when we get there. Lovely day. So as you get towards Bilbao, there is a toll road to get onto. We've got about 91 kilometers to destination, and the air we're going to is fairly close to the port. Okay, so we're coming up to the payage now, and see how much that tolls cost. So, just pop my ticket in, let's have a look. 12 euros 10, my exact guess. Right, so where do I pay it? On there, I think. There we go, 12 euros 10, Gary. Somebody owes me something. Come across another toll, and it's 1 euro 45 for this one, so you've got to allow a good 10 euros, no, good 20 euros, haven't you? 20 euros all told, yeah. Okay, so this is the public air, just outside of Bilbao, in a place called Galata. We'll put the what three words. There is electric you can pay for here, there's a couple of spots you've gone past there, love. You want to go in the middle of this one, whatever suits this one here, or this one. Okay. Oh, he's got his trucks on there, look. Crikey. Okay, that's not so bad, is it? We took number 10, which is the very first one down the road. Oh, it's a little slope here. Looks like you can go for a bit of a walk down here, right in the industrial estate, to be honest. And yeah, there's 10 slots, obviously, all the way up there. This is all right, that's what you need, just before you get on the ferry. And then we've got a couple of bins, looks like an electricity point. I don't know how the electricity point works, Gary, because it looks like a, I don't know, like a card pin or something. Gary's putting stabilizers on. It's all right. Yeah, this is all right, this will do for tonight. Ah, that's right, Gary had to go on some sort of app, didn't you? Yeah. Beforehand. We'll pop the details underneath. Gosh, it's noisy here, I think it'll be quiet later. There's a big boy trying to get up the hill. But yeah, you basically say which slot you're in. I think you're allowed one or two nights, aren't you, or something like that? Two nights max, I think it says, yeah. Yeah, putting the stabilizers on, which is great. Do you know what, it's all right, isn't it? It's free. You can get electricity. That white box there supplies electricity, but I think you probably just pay a bit extra if you want it. I don't think we need it, do we? I don't think we do, so Gary's just gone on the app. Give us the score, Gary. What did they charge you? €8.50? €8.50 to stay here overnight. Right. Without water or electricity. Okay. So you can pay €3 for water. Okay. I'm not, I'm not sure yet that electricity is not completely included. I don't think it, what makes you say that? Because there was nothing about electricity on, on the app. Oh, right. But there is electricity points there. Yeah. So. Well, €8.50 for the night. It's not really bad, is it? £7 or whatever. Yeah. And we're very close to the ferry terminal, so it is what it is. And we're quite happy to park up here for the night, aren't we? We're exhausted now, aren't you? Yeah. So Gary's discovered that you get electricity with the price. Yeah. So you've got to go into the app and then you've got to actually tell it what parking space you're in, and then you've got to go on and switch the electric on from that parking space, all within the app. Oh, right. It's all complicated. It's not easy. But I'm just checking out and the main supply is on, so. This'll be all right for the night, won't it, Babs? It'll be great, yeah. Good morning. I just wanted to show you quickly where the dump is. You see where that white box is, where the graffiti is written on it? Well, there's your water, your grey, your black, and you're filling up the water, I think, as well, isn't it, Gary? It is, but remember, you've got to pay for it, so when you're emptying your black, you can't wash out your cassette because you haven't paid for water. Oh, really? Did you have an issue? I bought a bottle of water anyway that I keep underneath, so I can sort it out. Okay, lucky. Okay, so what did we think of staying here last night, Gary? I wouldn't do it again. No, I wouldn't. It was all right. For what it is, you're right next to the port, great, but it was noisy. It was noisy, and about six o'clock this morning, loads of traffic, it started up. In the end, you ended up getting it quite level, so it wasn't an uncomfortable sleep, but it was noisy and that road is constant. I wouldn't come here again. No. I would rather, especially if you've got like a one o'clock ferry like we have, I'd rather probably stay about an hour outside of here and drive in the morning. Yeah, we both feel a little bit like that, don't we, this morning. It wasn't the best place to stay, but it didn't cost very much. It was £8.50 with electrics, so if you really needed to charge everything up, do everything, it was all right, wasn't it? Right, so we're heading off down to the ferry port this morning.
