Well, it's simple, it's delicious and it's deserving of its own day of reckoning.
Sure it is.
Okay, Lucy Gutierrez, I'm a little excited about what's in front of me.
She is here from Pick and Save in Metro Market to help celebrate BLT Day, baby.
First of all, I didn't even know that was a holiday, but I'm so glad it is.
Me too.
BLT Day.
Bacon, lettuce, and tomato.
Happy National BLT Day, Donovan Bryant.
We have great, fresh, and flavorful ingredients at Metro Market in Pick and Save.
That you can elevate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
And what better way to kick off National BLT with a bacon, lettuce, and tomato board
that you can have with friends and family and break down.
And I can go through each, my own recipe of a BLT here, while you guys start breaking this board down.
Wow, you know, before the break we saw that middle one, and we're going to get to that probably second.
Yeah.
Chips on that.
That's a showstopper.
We were intrigued, but I like the board idea because this really allows everybody to create their own.
Have an adventure while doing it, especially if you're, you know, a family with a lot of kids
that they can create and pick and choose.
Alright, so what makes a good BLT?
Is it the bacon?
Is it the bread?
Is it the tomato?
The lettuce?
My personal opinion, bacon is the best.
Bacon is king.
Bacon is king, but BLT, you need the core ingredients.
Bacon, lettuce, and tomato.
So for the breakfast portion, I made an avocado toast BLT.
Here, again, I did some fresh sliced avocados sprinkled with salt and pepper.
And then our private selection, everything bagel seasoning.
The star of the show here is, I don't know if a lot of people know, but at Metro Market in Pick and Save
we have seasoned bacon that you could get at our meat counter.
So I used our French toast bacon for this one to really elevate the flavor.
Okay.
You've got different breads represented here.
I think, right, that I noticed ones wheat and sourdough.
Sourdough, multigrain, and then Italian.
That's what it is, multigrain.
Again, that's why I really love a board.
Because then your guests, your friends and family can pick whatever they want on their BLT.
And then the fan favorite that you guys mentioned is what I call the afternoon BLT.
Come on.
We're in Wisconsin.
Cheese.
This is my three cheese melt BLT.
Wow.
And it's honestly a fan favorite because it's good for beach.
We're in the summer, so good for beach trips, picnic trips, you name it.
The kids love the chips.
You always have chips in the cupboard.
So might as well take it with you.
So here I did three cheeses.
I did cheddar, muenster cheese, and then star of the show, some smoky gouda.
That's my butter flavor.
How do you attack that?
Two hands.
I know.
You smoosh it.
Two hands.
You just go, just get at her.
You can't wait to be embarrassed.
That's fair.
If it's messy, that means it's good.
If it's not messy, then it's not good.
Yes.
And here I also sprinkled it with Mike's hot honey to add that sweet, spicy flavor.
Because why not?
Why not?
Add more flavor into your BLT.
I see that you have some options when it comes to the lettuce, too.
Some nice icebergs, some red, some regular lettuce.
Yep.
So Metro Market obviously has plenty to choose from that way as well.
So are you going full leaf, like with the iceberg, all in one?
Yeah.
Or is it a better method to have it chopped up a little bit?
It's, again, all the flavor preference.
I'm more of getting a artisan leaf or lettuce and just pulling it straight from the stem
and putting it on my BLT.
For example, over here on our what I call a surf and turf BLT, I add an extra layer of protein.
So it's not just the bacon, but I also added our already cooked shrimp that you can buy
at Metro Market.
Well, that's different.
And it's a surf and turf BLT.
And then I also elevated it because instead of using mayonnaise to toast the butter,
because as you can see, I did a little grill mark for all these breads over here.
But this one, I added some truffle butter to really give it that surf and turf flavor
that you get at a restaurant.
Lucy, you're innovative over here.
Okay.
Did you?
Okay.
So for you at home, what are you making?
Are you taking bits and pieces of each one to make a BLT?
Or how do you get down at home?
I pick my favorite.
Can we make one?
Yeah, you can make one, please.
Yes, sir.
Break down this table.
I'm going to go for something I don't get a lot.
I mean, lunch is on the horizon here.
Honestly, and to answer your question, I did a lot of recipes here, but I just went on
the Metro Market and Pick and Save app.
Okay.
We have a whole catalog of recipes that you can choose, not just for BLT Day, but for
any day.
And then also on the app, if you can't go to the grocery store today, go on the app.
You can pick out your groceries, pick whatever ingredient that's your favorite, and then
it gets delivered to DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Instacart.
Easy with that.
Easy.
So we're putting it together.
Brian's making a BLT.
He's already in it.
You know what?
I did not bring lunch in.
So there you go.
By all means.
Okay, wait.
What kind of bacon does he have?
Does he have the...
You have the old-fashioned bacon, so it's OG.
Okay.
We also have a thin and thick premium cut.
Okay.
And the other flavors that we carry, I mentioned over here, hopefully, but I'll do it again.
Maple bourbon bacon is what I use for this green cheese.
Maple bourbon bacon.
Okay.
Yeah.
This is what I call my cheese head.
Okay.
My cheese head BLT.
Okay.
And we're in Wisconsin.
And then over here for the surf and turf BLT, I used our whiskey peppercorn.
Ooh.
Whiskey peppercorn.
So we have different flavors.
Again, go to the meat counter.
We'll talk to our meat clerk.
Yes.
And then figure out which one you want for your own BLT today.
Beautiful.
The thought of it, I don't see you moving, I just...
Well, I was gonna let you do the hard work and say cut it in half.
I let you trust me.
I didn't wash my hands, too.
I trust you, Brian.
Yeah, yeah.
I trust you.
When I make a BLT, I love the crunch aspect of it, too.
So I like the bacon to have a little bit of crunch, but also to be, you know, kind of
chewy.
I like the minty bacon, yeah.
Yeah.
I like a little bit of both, but that lettuce.
The lettuce.
You know, you throw some of that lettuce in there to give it a good base.
Now, I mean, this is super basic.
Yeah.
Are you adding avocado?
I'm not gonna do avocado.
Don't spread like that.
I'm just gonna do straight up BLT.
And these are our beefsteak tomatoes.
Those are what I prefer to use on the BLT, however, for my avocado toast one, I kind
of wanted to replicate that, then what you get on like a brunch spot.
So I used our cherry tomatoes that you can also get already pre-packaged.
Oh, sweet.
I just cut them in half.
Oh, that's convenient.
Honestly, BLT's three main components.
You can't go wrong.
You just made it on air.
Super simple.
Super easy.
Super basic.
You know, it's not basic.
It's just, it's you.
You know?
Is that what it is?
A collection of you.
It's not basic, though.
You want to get to know your friends.
Make a BLT board and see what they take.
There it is.
And that's their personality.
Now, if this is home, let's be transparent.
Let's be real.
This is coming off and the chips are going on.
Come on.
Hey, what?
Smooshing it down.
We love the authenticity, baby.
Come on.
Let's just throw it in there.
And that's my favorite part, because you talked about that crunch.
Chips add that crunch to me.
And then I can pick any flavor that I want.
Okay.
We have here our Simple Truth ones that we just launched.
Yeah, these are good chips to have.
These are absolutely good.
You guys, I didn't grow up eating chips on my sandwich.
Really?
Not that it's like a, it was weird for us.
It just, we just didn't do it.
Wow.
But instead we put, I feel like we put like a scrambled or fried egg on every sandwich.
Yes, yes.
Ham sandwich.
Right here.
I don't know.
BLT plus, I guess, BLTE.
I don't know.
I got to try something.
Do, oh, do, do.
Please.
There you go.
See if we can hear the crunch.
Here's the crunch.
I was like, what are you doing?
Oh my God.
That's what I'm talking about.
That's the crunch you need.
You know what?
Crunch with a K, because you have a K in your name.
There you go.
It's a double BBLT.
A Brian Bacon Lettuce and Tomato BLT.
That would sell on the menu quickly.
Are you done with BBLT?
BBLT!
Yeah, you know me!
You guys, oh my goodness.
Well, Lucy, thanks for coming in today.
And like I said, I didn't know this was a holiday.
I'm very glad that it is.
We are thrilled.
Lucy, you have been the gift that keeps on giving for us today.
Oh my goodness.
All righty, folks.
Coming up ahead on Real Milwaukee, a new limited series, same psychological thriller.
Gino's in with a look at the new adaptation of Cape Fear next.
