Thanks taylor. We're still following the partial bridge collapse in
Montgomery County. Yeah, due to last night's heavy rainfall and flooding,
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue say there is buckling on the road surface.
That's where we find our Melanie Elnwick in Gaithersburg with the
latest details. Mel.
Hey, good morning. Good news guys. The State Highway Administration has just
been out here. They've done their assessment and you can see behind me
that they are beginning to reopen this section of Woodfield Road. Now we did
see engineers out there. Let me show you some video of what it looked like
overnight. Now this is uh the situation that Montgomery County Fire and Rescue
identified uh shortly after the torrential downpours. You can see where
the pavement appears to have buckled and some washout going on. And that's
really a concern that there could be some structural damage underneath. This
actually is a bridge. It goes over part of Goshen branch. And so they were
certainly concerned about some structural issues. But again, after
the State Highway Administration came out, they said that structurally this
area is safe. There's still a cone in the middle of the road there. So there
may be some issues with traffic trying to navigate their way around. These
roads go up and down and up and down and it can be hard to see around the
corner. So I'm a little concerned about maybe oncoming traffic there. And I
don't believe that they have opened up Brink Road yet, but they're just about
to do that momentarily where they're going to open that part of Brink Road.
They do say that they are still going to have to have people come out at this
point and repair that what is now a very big pothole and pretty deep
there so that you don't want to be driving over it. That's why the cone is
still there. But as far as structural damage, it does not appear at this
point that that's going to be an issue. But Maryland Department of
Transportation engineers out here said they will send another crew just to do
a second assessment later.
