In early July, Russia announced the complete capture of Kostyantynivka , but according to Ukrainian military sources, fighting for the city continues. The commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 157th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, call sign "Historian," spoke to Radio Liberty about the Russian occupiers' tactics in the city and the situation in this area.

The soldier explains that the Russians often use this tactic: a few soldiers break through to hide, hang out their flag, and then the media presents this as a new battle line.

"Although the enemy's tactics are aimed at outflanking our battle lines, our positions, avoiding combat, and waving their flags in the rear. They then hope that after a while this will become reality. Although it isn't," he explains. At the same time, he notes that the enemy is seeking to entrench itself in urban areas, as it's easier to detect and destroy enemy personnel in the open, as running from dugout to dugout is "quite a quest" for the enemy. And even if they do get there, pinning them down will be easier, the soldier explains.

"If we take Kostiantynivka as the center of the front, they're trying to gain a foothold in the development. It's easier for them there. They can order some powerful KAB if, say, a five-story building isn't ready. We don't have the capacity to simply raze entire neighborhoods to the ground, so they're taking advantage of it," he adds.

The military emphasizes that KABs remain a very significant factor in the confrontation with the enemy: "They have so much of this weaponry that, for example, if they can't take a dugout, they can even drop three KABs on a regular trench, and that's fine. Because they can't get through." He notes that the enemy's personnel situation is not the best, and the resistance of our soldiers is demoralizing the enemy.

"We've even had cases where a position is being stormed, and we'll immediately send a Mavic there and observe what's happening. Three Russians storm it, one shoots himself right there near the dugout, and two surrender. That is, our guys start resisting, they won't let them into the dugout, and this is already demoralizing them," the battalion commander explains.

He added that Russian rear-echelon troops often have poor health, poor training, and poor qualifications, and simply rush into battle without even knowing the basic procedures, and die en masse.

The capture of Konstantinovka has become one of the Kremlin's priorities in its campaign to establish full control over the Donetsk region, although the advance of troops has been accompanied by significant losses.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Shamil Krutkov, commander of the 93rd separate mechanized brigade "Kholodny Yar," Konstantinovka could suffer the same fate as Pokrovsk , although there is no critical situation there at the moment.
