What an epic day we can hear it all the way in New York even though that is in New Jersey.
But we're going to go to chief correspondent Jonathan Hunt who is live at the New York slash New Jersey Stadium.
Hi Jonathan. What can you tell us about that exciting moment.
I'll tell you that I am absolutely exhausted and I was nowhere near the pitch.
Those players have to be completely on their last legs.
What a game.
90 minutes we played of normal time.
Spain controlled everything all the way through but they just could not make the breakthrough.
And all the attacking play in the world, all the control in the world doesn't matter if you can't score a goal quite obviously.
So we went to extra time.
The first 15 minutes and remember there are two 15 minute periods.
Spain still couldn't get through even though Argentina were down to 10 men having had one sent off towards the end of normal time.
And then we started the final 15 minute period of this World Cup final.
And Ferran Torres who had been sent on as a substitute scored that goal you just saw.
And then Argentina finally in this game finally having not had a shot on target the entire game came to life but they could not get it back.
Argentina is a team that has won late all the way through this tournament.
This time they could not do it.
And Spain are now world champions adding that title to the title they already have of European champions.
They were without a shadow of a doubt the very best team on this day and the very best team of this tournament.
And I have to say guys quite proudly I picked Spain before the tournament began to win it all.
I wavered a little in the middle when France were playing so well but stuck with Spain in the end.
And they are thoroughly deservedly world champions right now.
Back to you guys.
Well Jonathan they say you know let the best team win so I guess the best team won.
My question for you when we talked to you earlier you said a lot more Argentina fans there than fans for Spain.
So I imagine there's a lot of folks there that are not too happy.
What can you tell us about the environment there as you're seeing people I would assume start coming out anytime.
Yeah they're just about starting to dribble out now.
We saw a few Argentina fans leaving even before the final whistle went.
Clearly very depressed.
You know I was telling some of our other anchors earlier that last night I barely got any sleep at my hotel in Times Square
because there were thousands of Argentinian fans having the party of a lifetime in Times Square ahead of the game.
And I said earlier today I'm glad they did it last night because I didn't think they were going to have reason to party tonight.
And indeed they do not.
