Katie Zacharia is "transitioning out" of her role as White House press secretary, the White House has confirmed to the BBC.
They did not provide a timeline for when she would be leaving the position.
US President Donald Trump earlier said he told Zacharia to “reconsider” her role.
He said he told her, “You don’t have to do this”, after her debut in the briefing room earlier this week.
Zacharia has been treated “very, very badly” by the media in recent days, Trump told reporters outside the White House.
