Race from one end of Lake
Huron to the other.
This is the 102nd Bayview Mackinac race.
Fox News Lauren Edwards has the latest.
Bayview Mackinac race kicked off,
so that means the fun has begun.
And next to me I have Dennis Bowden.
She laughs when I call her the magician,
but that's exactly what you are.
You are the magician.
I'm not a magician.
The sailors are making all this happen.
The race committee is making all this happen.
We are less than a minute going
into the start of Class M.
They'll be heading up the shore course,
so that is where the magic is happening
right now on the race course.
Now talk about though all the work
that goes into this because I want
to say they're having fun,
but I think this is pretty stressful,
right?
What we're seeing right now is probably
the most exciting and maybe a little
bit stressful start of the race.
They both start behind an imaginary line.
It's really not imaginary.
You just can't see it.
It's between two boats,
so they want to be on the line.
That's 15 seconds.
You're hearing till they'll be there,
but they can't be over it on the
course side, which is where we are.
So we got less than 10 seconds.
We're going to watch him here.
Hear it on the radio.
2 off and it looks like everybody
cleared the starting line and
they're headed our way.
They're headed to Mackinac Island
and so logistics how many boats?
I know there's over 200.
How long is it going to take?
When can we start to see those
boats come in up in Mackinac?
Well, that's a great question.
We don't know they have great breeze right now,
but conditions can change on the race course,
so if a few hundred miles to go for 200
boats and hopefully they'll all be in
for the Island Awards party at
Mission Point Resort on Tuesday.
And how significant is it though that
the smoke it's gone? It's not.
I can breathe. I can breathe.
Yeah, I was getting texts from some
friends up north and they do have
some conditions still so the boats
were all briefed on safety or fleet.
Surgeon put out a memo.
Everybody's been talking about it,
but mostly how it's cleared and Sandy.
There's a really great way for Fox
2 viewers to participate in all of this.
Yeah, they can follow along.
Fox 2 has cameras on board.
Two of the boats in the race
live streaming 24 seven with a couple
of technical moments where it won't be,
but you can follow along.
Go to the Fox 2 site.
You've got the you've got the link for
it on board cameras throughout the race.
Whatever conditions the sailors are
experiencing your viewers will too as well.
That way guys you get a first hand
look of what they are going through
out here on the lake and we at Fox 2.
We're going to be there as well.
On Sunday and Monday,
just giving you guys updates of all
the action that's going on in the race.
Reporting here on the lake here on
