This is a steal for the Dallas Mavericks as multiple new reports
have just dropped linking the Dallas Mavericks to a name that
is not only a very good fit but following this new report
things just lined up perfectly for Masai to make a move and
to break down exactly why it's a steal and discuss what it
means going forward as well as a few other updates before
we get into it.
Quick reminder to hit that subscribe button.
Now Jace, there's a lot to discuss today and we're gonna
be talking about a name that given the framework of reports
that have come out is a steal at least in my eyes for this
team. I'm very curious to see what you guys think about it.
Now, we'll preface this.
It is Max Struce and before you start leaving the comments,
how is Max Struce a steal?
Let's dive into the report.
The Cavaliers could opt to attach a draft pick to the contract
of Max Struce in order to pay LeBron James more than a minimum
contract. The Clippers have the trade exception. AP Hoops
is a Clippers fan, so he mentioned the Clippers, but so do
the Dallas Mavericks.
Now, for one, Max Struce is a very solid player and in
usual, you know, normal circumstances, the Mavericks probably
aren't looking to necessarily, you know, add a traded draft
capital way for a guy like Max Struce given what, you know,
A, the lack of a roster spot that they'd have to create.
But Jace, it seems like now the Cavs could get desperate
here to attach a draft pick and getting Max Struce.
I mean, you're getting a very valuable player who has one
year left on his deal and you get a draft pick and you're
one of only a handful of teams that have the ability to do
so through the trade exception being Boston, Dallas, the Clippers
and Milwaukee.
I think it's a steal if you can get a draft pick back and
of course, get a player who shot nearly 40% from three last
year. Well, and right now the Cavaliers are in line to grab
LeBron James.
So they might be a little more desperate than, you know, just
one draft, but you can potentially grab two second rounders
from them to use in either future trades or whatever that
might be.
And so in a lot of facets, you are one of a couple teams
that can do this.
So that puts you already in a good spot.
Thank you, Chris Middleton.
That's obviously a perfect use there.
MSI usually getting that trade done and having the trade
exception still there after all of that, but I do like
Mac Struess.
I don't think he's like something crazy, but he can shoot
the three pretty well would honestly be a good thing to
have for just a year.
If you are trying to get out of the clay Thompson contract,
maybe this is a situation where you could use a combo of
that.
I mean the contracts for Struess and clay lineup.
So then that trade exception is like it's kind of there.
It's not really useful at that point, but there's a lot
of things you could do.
The draft picks to me are what's going to be the big part
of this because how desperate are they they'd have a bunch
of second round picks that I'm sure they're going to try
and offer up first.
Would they be willing to give out a first trick to try
and get LeBron James to try to, you know, entice him to
come to Cleveland by paying him more.
So it's an interesting report obviously because we know
that James is the prize piece right now for Cleveland,
Miami and for the Sixers.
So they're all going to try and do what they can to acquire
him and make sure that he will sign with their team and
that might include doing something crazy like this.
We're giving up Max Struess and a couple draft picks is
worthy because hey now LeBron we can offer you some more
money. And like I said, I don't think Max Struess is something
so just like, you know brush over.
He was actually a decent player and I think would fit well
with the Maverick system to be honest.
Yeah, I mean in normal circumstances, you know Max Struess
I wouldn't say it's a steal but like last year 11 points
five rebounds shot 40% from three.
He could stretch the floor, you know, not a great defender
or anything like that, but a bench player on an expiring
contract where you get draft capital.
It's not like Max Struess is a negative asset.
He's not he would help this team and I think really help
if you're trying to make somewhat of a push towards a playoff
spot and 11 points and 24 minutes a game is absolutely
nothing to scoff at.
I think they're in a position now to be able to rob the
Cleveland Cavaliers in that way.
And it's not just the Mavericks the Clippers as well.
And obviously if you're the Cavs if you have to give up
two seconds to get LeBron you do it right all day long,
but there's not a whole there's not a whole lot of teams
who can you know, do it or at least are me willing to do
it through the trade exception.
Now the Mavericks like you mentioned earlier Jace were
able to keep their trade exception open by participating
in the 16 sign and trade that trade keeps on giving you
got Santiago Domingo got terrible Brovich got Sasser and
I mean it was and for a fake first round pick essentially
in a some and some seconds but something else that you
mind here.
Let's look at his stats from last year again.
He's been a very solid player for a while and especially
since coming to the Cavaliers now keep in mind you would
have you have no roster spots left.
So you would have to make room and I think that's kind
of two ways to do it.
I think the best way and people are a lot of Mavs fans
are actually behind this.
We've talking about it.
You buy out clay Thompson.
He goes to Miami or somewhere and then you get shirts
and a pick right?
So if you're able to do that you replace clay with
strew suit as arguably will be better for this team
and you get a pick.
There's no reason to my eyes not to do it.
You could also mess around maybe trying to get Caleb
Martin, you know off the books like a one for one kind
of thing and see what happens there, but you would
have to get rid of clay basically and make the most
sense in any scenario here.
But if you're grabbing a first round pick for an asset
like Max Drew's worst case scenario at the trade deadline
if you're if the Mavericks are struggling injuries,
God forbid anything happens.
He's a positive asset and you'd be able to get even
more draft capital back.
Yeah, that's kind of the interesting thing about this
is obviously this is 100% caught Mavs fans.
I mean even Kevin Gray jr.
Just kind of looking at that and knowing that the Mavericks
have the trade exception.
The hard part is trying to pry the first round pick
because I think they'd be willing to give up multiple
seconds and that's kind of what AP hoops really suggested
here with a couple of different second round picks that
you know would be good to have in the future 2032 2033
again.
The first round picks are where you would like to try
and push that toward especially if they're working, you
know, hey, this can get you LeBron like you got to kind
of play that card.
I guess in some ways for Struce to kind of come in
here and and you know, be the type play of the year
for the three-point shooting.
Like you said, you could attach Caleb Martin, maybe
a clay Thompson, whatever that might be.
It seems like a pretty good thing for the Mavericks
to explore.
And like you said, if you can get the draft pick
out of them, then that just opens up a world of possibilities
for you at the trade deadline for you in the next
offseason.
We know what Messiah jury talked about in the early
part of this offseason when he was originally hired
on a plan is to compete and whether that be this
year right now, you know, I want to see what Kyrie
and coop looked like together, but it's to compete
and still go in championships and we know how aggressive
he can be.
We saw that with him in Toronto and I expect that
to be the kind of similar thing here.
So I think with Struce and this pick it's definitely
something to consider because like you said, there's
only a couple teams that can make this trade, you
see us and one of the team.
So that's just a huge thing for the Mavericks to
understand as you hold the cards, especially then
you have, you know, technically the Clippers and the
Mavericks who are the only two who have to do it
with who could do it without sending out any players
or a certain amount of salary back.
So it's a good trade.
It can become a great trade.
If you can get to stick around picks or push them
to say, hey, how about we give you clay and then
you give us a first to yeah, comment down below
what your thoughts are on this.
And yes, the Mavericks it is the Clippers the Clippers
I think are right up there like they could easily
do this as well.
If you just want to absorb draft capital, you can
trade him and keep in mind.
He is an expiring contract.
So 2026 2027 16 million dollars.
Of course last year earned about 15 million dollars
and he's a UFA.
So it's not like you're inheriting some crazy amount
of money.
It is a perfectly reasonable price for what he I mean
role players go for 15 million these days.
It's kind of just what happens and for Max truce.
I mean you'd be able to help.
I mean the bench would be very very solid now.
And obviously we'll add more as Johnson jr.
Here you would if you hypothetically replace.
I mean you can make a world where Shrews starts, right?
He started some playoff games.
I believe in Cavaliers.
So I mean you put replacing with Clay Thompson, you
could be a to guard off the bench.
You could play small forward moves and things around
and ultimately I think the biggest thing is you would
help stretch the floor for for Kyrie Irving and Cooper
flag, which is the number one priority right now is
this their development.
Anyway, final thoughts.
I mean on top of which you also potentially see more
trades after this one.
Like we talked about PJ Washington be on the block,
you know, Gafford being on the block and not to mention
Max Drews is a decent player that he could also be
trained at the trade deadline like and he's an expiring
contract.
That's a really easy rental option for somebody looking
for three-point shooting.
Like there's a multitude of things you could do and we
want to make it clear that this deal is the fact that
you can move these pieces for more like this is something
that would make more more things come in to view and
allow you to kind of open up everything and not that
but also on the basketball court open up before like
you said, so I do like the the trade.
I think it is a really good one, especially to explore
given your one of four teams that can do it and you
know, hey, maybe you can squeeze two second round picks
and be the first out of it.
Yeah, let us know down below your thoughts are on it
and Messiah.
He made some he's making move like this before with
that 16 trade making things work and do it once again
with Max Drews.
See you guys later.
