It Smells Like Fire! Dogs React To Thick Wildfire Smoke!
Stay safe out there, everyone! Have you ever experienced heavy wildfire smoke in your area? Let me know down in the comments below!
Oh my goodness, you guys, Mother Nature had other plans for us today! I had this really great plan to set up the swimming pool and film a super fun pool video with the dogs, but we stepped outside and it is absolutely crazy out here. For those of you who might not know, we live in Northern Michigan, and right now we are getting hit with massive wildfire smoke coming down from Canada and northern Minnesota. It literally feels and smells like we are sitting right next to a campfire, except we aren't even camping! The air quality is in the dangerous zone today, so we can't stay outside for very long at all. After already dealing with two days of extreme heat where the dogs couldn't do much, this smoke means the pool video is officially on hold.
Since we are stuck pacing ourselves indoors, I wanted to film a quick little update to show you the smoke and answer some of the questions you’ve been leaving recently. We did a live stream last week and so many of you have been reaching out to ask how we are doing, how the dogs are holding up, and checking in on us since Memphis passed away about a month and a half ago. We are doing okay, I promise. Kira is starting to get a little bit of her spark back, she’s happy to see people when they come over and wants to play a bit more, which is so nice to see. Eleanor seems kind of oblivious to the whole thing, but she is doing really well too.
A lot of you also asked if Memphis is home yet. Yes, she is. We had her cremated, and her beautiful green urn is officially home inside with us. The next step is getting it put up on her shelf. I also want to let you know that I still have the footage from Memphis's very last camping trip, as well as a fun day trip I took with Eleanor. I am working on editing those, and they will be going up on the channel soon, it has just been a little bit difficult to sit down and edit them, as I'm sure you can all understand. Thank you all so much for checking in on our safety and for all of your incredible love and support!
💨Wildfire Smoke Air Quality Safety Tips for Dogs:
- Keep outdoor time strictly limited to short bathroom breaks when AQI is high
- Avoid strenuous exercise or play outdoors during heavy smoke conditions
- Keep all house windows and doors closed to maintain indoor air quality
- Watch for signs of respiratory distress like coughing, wheezing, or excessive panting
