because that is the otis edge prospects as we know from previous years and experience and our standards have champions are the lifeblood of making a great franchise and that's exactly what the canes have been building all these years that's why we're built into a championship contender every year and poised to possibly poised to run it back next year that's what's being cemented even now today as we take a look at two major prospects inside the system that are ready but first it was announced over on x the carolina hurricanes have signed william hackinson to a three-year entry-level contract worth pretty good money 850 nhl to start 900 000 the next year 950 000 the year after that hackinson signed up for three years i'm assuming he'll spend most of those in the ahl but you never know weirder things have happened hackinson is the canes highest selected player from this year's draft at 18 years old he was the 51st overall pick going in the second round hackinson will 900 000 in 27 28 950 000 in 28 29 um he will earn the 8 87 he'll earn 87 500 annually if assigned to the american hockey league uh while the agreement also includes 228 000 signing bonuses spread across the life of the contract and a potential 440 i'm sorry a potential 40 000 games played bonus in the final year of the deal the deal has a 900 000 nhl salary cap hit hackinson spent most of the 25 26 season with leah hf in the swedish hockey league recording two assists in 22 regular season games along with a plus one rating he also appeared in nine playoff games with the team advancing to the shl semi-finals the shutdown physical 6 foot 4 216 pound blue liner helped sweden win gold at the 2026 ihf world junior championship where he had two assists in seven games pretty good he's not the first large fast and physical defenseman in the cane system and i bet by the time the season comes along he will also not be the last we love big tough european defenseman in raleigh a good defense leads to a better offense right recently the list of top 100 prospects has surfaced and two hurricanes in the system are on the list the list was released by the athletic includes players from the past few years that are not fully nhl established but definitely very close or 100 ready for the big time show in the nhl and two hurricanes well canyons we know this guy bradley nadeau came in on the list nadeau was drafted in 2023 and the right winger spent you know some time on the canes roster but most of it was in the ahl with the chicago wolves nadeau is often praised for his goal scoring ability with second line and power play potential because of his hands footwork on the ice and shot that all gets him very high praise from a lot of people inside the business a lot of media as well and he just brings something extra if you've ever seen him play on the ice he's just you know bradley nadeau's on this because your eye is drawn to him i've seen him live a few times it's actually pretty impressive um however he's not super aggressive and that's part of his downside as we all know he is totally capable of creating offense and setting up scoring chances almost better than any other prospect inside the hurricane system his skating is almost second to none with fast transition quick feet and his shot is praise worthy too from his pinpoint accuracy or off off the catch and release at a dangerous one time just got to get more aggressive nadeau does need to hunt a little more get a little feisty in the corners but i'm sure that will come i'm sure we all know that will come unless it's not really part of his game but he's gonna he'll be all set i really think i truly think bradley nadeau is ready i think he's gonna be the one to fill in while jarvis is out for his surgery he led all hl rickies with 32 goals in 24 25 and represented canada and the 2025 world juniors this guy also ivan rapkin rapkin is a talented prospect who came in at number 98 out of 100 mainly because he's faced a lot of criticism and has been suspended or made a healthy stretch all based around his attitude discipline even fitness even down to his interview style but there have been moments of brilliance from the young center ivan has great instincts off the puck in order to find gaps in coverage and loves his backhand where he's practically a magician his ice awareness and game iq make him tough to defend as he is often a step or two ahead when he tries with the puck he's craft you know he has a craft he's got great agility to make the game that helps with his lack of good decision not in great decision making so he kind of does magic i guess scouts also noticed i noted that while he's a good skater he would be more dynamic if he worked on his fitness to get into better hockey shape ivan shows some attack on the puck and willingness to attack the puck but he isn't consistent which often leads to dumb penalties he's known to take some shifts off which is not good as we know all that needs to be fixed if he wants to get to the nhl level and he wants higher coaches like brendan moore or anybody else to trust him on the ice attitude really does make all the difference and i tell my kids who play hockey that your attitude really makes all the difference so ivan kind of needs good of an attitude check last season with the wolves he played 31 games scoring one goal with nine assists and 60 penalty minutes you gotta stay out of the box bud you gotta stay out of the box bud one goal nine assists as a center not a good look but he is very talented and i'm sure he has a tremendous upside he does come in at 98 out of 100 on the list otis edge analytics where passion meets data with top picks every day yes a free pick every day for you also disciplined strategies to
