The Colorado Avalanche made a sneaky good signing and this is great with them adding a top
offensive prospect to their system who's young and itching for an opportunity. Joe Sakic has
effectively placed a bow on the trade he made with one-for-one Ivan Ivan for Fabian Lysel just a few
weeks ago. Fabian Lysel was given a one-year deal just earlier today and is now an official member
of the Colorado Avalanche. A player that has quite a bit of contention around him because while being
a top offensive prospect he has plenty of stories floating around him as well and there is a
question if he has the correct mentality to be a pro in the NHL. One thing you can't deny however
is that Fabian Lysel has all the talent of a quality elite NHLer and has the potential for
star ability. What if I told you the guy they got for Ivan Ivan has a absolute ceiling of being
Temi Panarin and a floor of not even being an NHLer because he just can't handle the mentality.
Well that is who we're going to be looking at today with Fabian Lysel being given a cheap
$850k deal and for me I look at this and immediately say this is the opposite of the
common term high risk high reward because there is no risk there's just high reward in this guy's
case and we're going to be taking a look at all the ways he is a perfect fit for the Colorado
Avalanche but also has a little bit of trouble around his name as well just here in a second but
right before I do want to let you all know that this video is sponsored by Otis Edge. Now emotion

but let's actually get back to who Fabian Lysel is and who better to take it from than a quality
Bruins insider or someone close to the Bruins who is a big fan of Fabian Lysel and this was really
a summary of everything I've heard of him so don't just take this guy's word but this is a something
that I've heard over and over again and has some credibility behind it says that he's been a fan
of Lysel since the draft he was a top-ranked skater by central scouting and overall you want to look
at a picture-perfect fit for the Colorado Avalanche it's this guy I mean electric skater a
playmaker the offensive toolkit is top lottery pedigree this is a guy that honestly like I've
said before has a ceiling close to akin to players like Artemi Panarin like Kirill Kaprizov just a
dynamic talent that wows you from every sense of the word I mean just take a look at this video
and this is a bit of a glimpse at his toolkit in general the kid is electric there's no denying
that but where does the trouble actually come well this guy actually continues says that there
are elements where you would feel like he should have done more to stand out at camp especially
with some prospects being thin at the time and him being a cut above the rest so there's not
all the blame to in the world to be placed on someone else I mean Lysel has to take credit
for him not rising to the occasion there is some growing up to do is what I've heard Lysel
isn't a blameless party on all this but I want to highlight something big because I'm going to try
and condense this as much as possible but I'm seeing a lot of people really talk about Lysel
and what he should have done better and not nearly enough criticism for what the Boston Bruins have
been doing with their development for the last five years in fact there has not been a single
player that has come from their AHL squad that they fully developed in an AHL since 2021 which
is in line when they got a new director of scouting and development and funny enough the
Bruins just went through a bit of a soft quiet restructuring and he moved on to a different team
so the organization saw themselves that hey there is a problem here and they fixed it so kind of
just going into a lot of what I heard and remember this is something I've seen corroborated multiple
times and that is the Bruins don't really do him or others any favors in terms of development every
offensive player they draft is put through the Batiste Bergeron school of hard docks if you're
not a 200 foot player good luck seeing ice time and we know that some players are just not defensive
guys you're not going to ask Nathan McKinnon to sacrifice offensive time or sacrifice a lot of
energy to be a more defensively sound player he's an offensive horse and you've got to let him go
free it's the same with Marty Netjes, Kale McCarr at times you look at him sacrifice defense for his
offensive game and you say that's what you got to live with when you have a star like that
it's what Lysell needs to be allowed to do because he is just not that much of a defensive player
however giving him credit Lysell did catch up with the program wasn't perfect but his overall game
improved the opportunities never came and looking at his games as well looking at his opportunities
given in the NHL this didn't happen either and even in the AHL you're hearing reports of him
being buried in the lineup AHL veterans given more time over him and just kind of not being
given the best opportunities to succeed even though he was lighting up the AHL he had a 50 point season
and was not once called up to the NHL which that to me is just outrageous so there are
plenty of blame to go around I think in my opinion way too much being put on just solely Lysell
and not enough on the organization that failed to develop him they go on to say that with the
opportunities never coming this crushed his confidence there's a human psychological element
to development that Boston has simply overlooked with many of their young players
Avs should give Lysell every opportunity to succeed there's truly nothing to lose now I went
more in depth on this in the last video I did about Lysell so I don't want to repeat
just the same talking points over and over again but the fact that there are several prospects
frustrated with the Bruins development Lysell is not the only guy I'm hearing this about there's
quite a lot of talk about several of their other big prospects James Hagans included with this
happening too so we know this isn't an isolated incident and I say for the Colorado Avalanche
there's no risk in a player like Fabian Lysell with a guy that could develop into a absolute
demon for you that at the end of the day you just got for Ivan Ivan and if it goes poorly
then Bruins fans can always come in and say hey remember Fabian Lysell that you gassed up so much
and the end of the day all right he gassed out he became Ryan Merkley 2.0 he didn't become anything
he's in the KHL or went back to the Swedish League and overall it doesn't hurt the Avs at all because
they got him essentially for free no offense to Ivan Ivan but let's be real here he was gonna be
at most a good fourth line center on an NHL team and hopefully with the Bruins he can become that
now with the Colorado Avalanche though and now that Fabian Lysell is definitely in the picture
as an official signed guy you have to look at this lineup and say where does he even fit in
and the answer is right now nowhere there are proven NHLers that you would rather have you
look at this fourth line and you say those are quality fourth liners you don't want to put Lysell
on the fourth line and scratch a fourth liner for this that's not what he's meant to do that doesn't
you want to keep them in their defined roles but knowing the Colorado Avalanche if you've been a
fan for more than 30 seconds you know this team has their fair share of injuries Arturi Lekkonen
misses 20 games a season Jaden Schwartz has had injury history in the past as well Gabe Landeskog
extensive injury history and even without his knee problems affecting him last season thankfully
still missed quite a bit of games due to other related non-related knee issues so there will
be plenty of opportunity for a guy like Fabian Lysell Gavin Brindley TJ Hughes just expanding
the camp battle even more to what it's actually going to be there will be plenty of opportunities
for the young kids to take a spot here when a guy is injured and prove that they are good and the
best part is it'll be next to quality NHL talent with the abs roster being so stacked even though
people love to doom about it let's say that maybe on the third line you want to put Kelly down
maybe O'Connor has to go out with injury because sadly he is a little bit injury ridden in his
career not even a little bit at this point but maybe Kelly goes back down to that fourth line
maybe Jaden Schwartz goes down with injury and guys have to move around he could play in this
middle six middle six next to either Nelson Landeskog, Caudrey, Waugh plenty of opportunities
for Lysell or any of your young kids to play next to quality NHL talent so they're not just
getting buried next to third line grinders because the abs are just that deep I mean anyone that gets
to play with Nas and Caudrey on a line I don't think you're complaining that much about being
stuck with simple-minded you know fourth line grinder NHLers no offense to any of the awesome
fourth liners out there but there's plenty of opportunity for Fabian Lysell to succeed and
that's kind of been the story of his career you have the opportunity you have the potential what
are you gonna do with it are you gonna lament how your career's gone so far you're gonna say oh well
I should be getting top line minutes here if that's the case then he is getting sent away good
riddance buddy but if he actually wants to put his head down he wants to work he wants to properly
become a true pro in the NHL then he will be given all the opportunity in the world to hit it with
this Colorado Avalanche team and if he balls out then he will force the Avalanche to make decisions
and their trade deadline gets even easier when they have potentially a star player rising in
their ranks it's what you always hear people say make them make decisions and that's the message
to Fabian Lysell make them make decisions buddy it's the message I send to all the young prospects
it's going to be such a fun camp battle with Gavin Brindley, TJ Hughes, Fabian Lysell leading the way
I cannot wait to see all of these young kids Spetchkoff, LaRue I mean honestly I'm more excited
for a bunch of ABS prospects than I have been in quite a while the ABS have done some fun things
this summer by taking these bets and I can't wait to see how it pans out all season long but that is
going to do it for this Avalanche video thank you all so much for watching and I will see you in the next one
