Steelers make SNEAKY good signing... This is GREAT | Pittsburgh Steelers News
Aug 7, 2026
Pittsburgh Steelers have just made a sneaky good signing and in what has been a crazy
past couple of weeks surrounding the Steelers making moves, they have made a very notable
signing that adds more competition to this team's defensive room.
We're going to write down exactly who they signed, discuss what it means going forward,
but not only that, we have a ton of other updates from training camp, including Mike
McCarthy revealing the truth behind many players' roles heading into next season following the
course, go over the depth chart as well.
But there's also one name, a rookie who has stood above the rest in training camp thus far.
It has many fans absolutely fired up.
There's a lot to discuss in this episode before you intuitive.
Very quick reminder to hit that subscribe button, folks.
Season is right around the corner.
We're approaching mid-August.
Vibes are high.
This team is as good as they've looked in a while in training camp, and they continue
to make signings, adding depth, adding pieces, and it's exciting to see Omar Khan never sleep
at the wheel.
At least this offseason, as you can see here, the Steelers have agreed to sign former Cowboys
safety Israel Mukamu.
I believe it is Mukamu Mukamu.
We're going to go Mukamu, according to his agency, 6'4", 215 pounds, 25 years, 29 years
old.
Sorry.
He mostly played special teams for Mike McCarthy in Dallas, but had a solid 2024 season as
a multi-position defender.
So Mike McCarthy continues to bring back names that he's, of course, familiar with, but also
bring back names that fit what the team needs.
Now, obviously, Mukamu is not somebody who's going to light up the stat sheet, but he is
a versatile defender.
In 2024, he had two interceptions, a good for 20 yards.
This makes a lot of sense.
And again, I say this every video.
These are the every transaction video.
At least these are the moves that you don't think much of now.
But last year, think about Dylan Cook, right?
When the Steelers initially signed Dylan Cook, no one thought anything of it.
Then, of course, injuries happened to the O-line.
Dylan Cook went in, and he ended up being a playoff starter for the Steelers against
the Texans.
So you never really know what's going to happen here.
But this is somebody that is more notable than a lot of the other signings.
It's not necessarily just depth, though it probably is mainly depth.
He appeared in four games as a rookie with Dallas, and then became a regular in 2022
when he appeared in 15 contests.
He became a key multi-phase special teamer for the Cowboys under Mike McCarthy, working
on kick return, kick coverage, punt return, punt coverage, and field goal block units.
And in 2024, he set a career high with 200 snaps on defense, playing a slot, cornerback,
box safety, tons of spots, and he was targeted 15 times.
So last year, he only played one game.
I believe he was dealing with an injury.
But either way, 2024 with the Cowboys literally played a ton.
He played 17 games, appeared in 17 games.
So at least suited up.
I don't know.
I like moves like this, especially where, you know, Mike McCarthy, you know, gets biased
maybe, if you want to call it that, whatever it ends up being.
But you can see this.
Despite that season, he was released by the Cowboys, and he was caught in the Panthers
practice squad and played in one game.
So I guess it wasn't injury.
It was just lack of playing time.
And he was selected in the 2026 UFL draft, but did not play a game.
And the Steelers have been lacking in safety depth all season, with just signed veteran
Rashawn Jenkins, Robert Spears Jennings, and Devin Boykin, Sebastian Cash, Roderick Henderson,
the only depth behind Jaquan Briscoe and Deshaun Elliott.
Now, of course, they did recently bring in Rashawn Jenkins, who, according to Nick Farabao,
I think it was yesterday or the day before, was kind of leading the defensive group, which
is interesting.
But their 90-man training camp roster is now full.
So they're going to have to make a corresponding transaction in order to sign Mukwamu, which
they already did, which I'll dive into.
But let's dive into his stats a little bit so you guys can kind of see them in 4K here,
I guess 1080p.
So last year, played one game, didn't get a ton of run.
But it's not like he had a bad, I mean, maybe he was bad behind the scenes, right?
So that's why the Carolina Panthers didn't play him.
But I mean, he played like 40 plus games, 47 or 46 games.
Prior to last season, and was pretty damn good.
So it's interesting why he didn't get run last year with the Panthers, especially with
how bad the Panthers are in general in defense and offense.
So or at least they had a better season last year under Bryce Young, I'll give him some
credit.
But again, I'm excited to see what Michael McCarthy can do.
Maybe you bring in some life back to his career, because I mean, it's hard to, it's hard to
be wrong or hard to, you know, be upset at little deals like this.
Now, it is a one-year deal.
And the corresponding move was releasing cornerback Amari Harvey.
Obviously, the Steelers have a little more depth in the quarterback position than they
do safety position.
We can look at cornerback now.
I mean, you have Jamal Dean, you have Jaquan Brisker, Amiri, Amiri, geez, Louise, Amari
Harvey.
Amari Harvey was their fourth string.
And, you know, Dillon Everett's been good.
Darnell Savage, Roberts, Richard Jenkins, like all these guys are going to be, or sorry,
Deshaun Jamison, Dante Kent, all those guys are going to be ahead of Amari Harvey.
Obviously, Darnell Savage and Jenkins are safeties, not quarterbacks.
Comment down below what your thoughts are on this.
I like the move.
But something else that happened is the depth chart was released yesterday.
So feel free to pause and read it.
And I'm going to go over some of the notable, I guess, moves and surprises from this.
So Nick Faribault kind of discussed here the main notes.
Troy Fitanu and Mason McCormick are starting on the left side with Dylan Cook and Spencer
Anderson starting on the right side.
Keanu Benton is not listed at nickel tackle, whereas Yaya Black is a starting nickel tackle
and the SJD backup.
You have Will Howard as quarterback three.
And after a lot of misinformed speculation, Jalen Warren ends up being the RB1, not Rico
Dowdell with Roman Wilson as the WR3, not Jeremy Bernard.
So we can look at the one from ESPN from before the actual, you know, the official one got
released, and it lined up fairly well, right?
It had Roman Wilson as your WR3.
It had Jalen Warren.
So this one's pretty accurate.
Now for Jeremy Bernard, we're going to see he's had a reportedly rough camp.
The Mike McCarthy said he kind of liked it.
Obviously, Max Iannucci isn't starting at this point, though.
He's been absolutely unbelievable in training camp, but it is notable.
They're going to give Roman Wilson another chance.
Obviously, some familiarity there.
They're going to let Jalen Warren be the starter every game.
Will Howard has been really good.
He's QB3, which means Drew Allard is QB4, even though he's been really, really good
this year.
I don't know.
A couple of questionable-ish decisions.
Mike McCarthy did say that he wouldn't put a ton of value, a lot of value into the depth
chart that the team released last night.
So maybe it was just for, you know, I guess production purposes, if you want to call it
that, because they had to do it.
Though I do think there is a little bit to look into there, especially where now, I mean,
they put the name on the paper, so they feel some type of way, right?
So comment down below what your thoughts are on that.
It is going to be interesting to see what actually happens on opening night or opening
day on Sunday in a few weeks because, or a couple months rather.
I am pumped up.
I'm really pumped up to see how this team does.
I mean, we look at the depth chart now.
I mean, you have Michael Pittman.
The team is just so much deeper than last year.
Aaron Rodgers has so many more weapons, and Aaron Rodgers has come out multiple times
on podcasts, the Pat McAfee Show, and among other things he said, the least controversial
of them was about how he was going to retire last year, and then Mike McCarthy brought
him back.
So clearly, they had a plan to bring him back, and I'm excited to see what they can do with
some of the young guys as well.
Mike McCarthy recently spoke out there yesterday on Mason Rudolph.
I can't tell you how pleased I am with Mason Rudolph.
He throws it better than I ever knew.
Obviously, Mike McCarthy is new to the Steelers, so he probably didn't have a ton of idea about
Mason Rudolph.
I don't love comments.
Okay, let me rephrase that.
I'm fine with comments like this.
It's obviously a net positive.
I just want to see what the young guys can do, and Will Howard and Drew Allard.
Like, we've seen so many great plays from Drew Allard.
I would like to just see him throw it and get some opportunities, but he is QB4 at this
moment.
Something else here is that Max Einacher definitely passed the test for how a rookie offensive
lineman is supposed to look in pads, so expect some games out of him.
And then regarding Drew Allard, there hasn't been a day where he hasn't made a throw where
you say, okay, that's a young man taking a step.
So despite him being QB4, there is still a good possibility that he gets some run.
Again, it's going to be weird.
Who knows how durable Aaron Rodgers' company is going to be, but folks, the season is right
around the corner.
We're going to keep you up to date.
