The Colorado Avalanche have just made themselves unstoppable with the recent acquisitions that GM
Chris McFarlane has just done. He has been cooking all year long and he's not slowing down now. He
has primed this group for yet another deep Stanley Cup run and it is going to be war in the first
round which is likely going to be against the Dallas Stars. What is up everyone? I hope it is
are the number one source for all of your avs news. So before we get into these amazing trades,
don't forget to subscribe and comment down below what you think about the recent acquisitions.
So guys, without further ado, let's smash right into these trades. If you had asked a single
person coming into the trade deadline, what is the avs biggest weakness? They would probably say
along the lines of depth. Easily. They have a lot of good forwards, Nathan McKinnon,
Kahle McCarr, Martin Netschus, Devon Taves, Valerie Nichushkin, but they just don't really
have anything outside of that top six and the 2C isn't good enough. Well, guess what? Chris
McFarlane has answered the call and has brought in legendary veteran center Brock Nelson. He is an
perfect acquisition, has an insane shot, absolute dog defensively, and just has that insane compete
level with him. He has been terrorizing the Eastern Conference in those deep Islanders 2010s runs,
and now the entire Eastern Conference should be thanking the Avalanche for finally getting him
out of the Eastern Conference. But getting into some of the return for the Islanders,
not only did they get the avs best offensive prospect in Callum Ritchie, who is now being
shipped out to the Islanders, they also get a conditional first round pick and a conditional
third round pick. That conditional third round pick only happens if the avs win the Stanley Cup.
So, Islanders fans, you should be rooting for the avs because if you do and they win,
you get a free third round pick from it. Well, not free, you had to give up Brock Nelson, but hey,
he was old anyway, so why would you want him? Give him to a team where he can actually win.
So, that is the first insane trade that's going to hugely push the needle for that second line
right next to Valerie Nichushkin and then maybe an Arturi Lekhinen or a Jonathan Druin,
but the more sneaky trade that people don't really appreciate that much is getting Charlie
Coyle. Yes, that Charlie Coyle, the big bad 6'3 beast of a man from the Boston Bruins for Casey
Middlestad. Now, Casey Middlestad is a great player and honestly, if you had asked me like,
that doesn't make sense. Doesn't Casey Middlestad have higher upside than Charlie Coyle?
Yeah, I would say you're correct. However, in this role that Casey Middlestad is being asked
to play, which is no longer a 2C second line center role, honestly, as a third line center,
I want someone who's big. I want someone who's physical. I want someone who's good defensively
and unfortunately, that's just not what Casey Middlestad is. Casey Middlestad was supposed
to be the second line center for this team and he just wasn't performing to expectations.
Hopefully, he can go to Boston and start reviving his career, but in the meantime,
the Avs are in win now mode. So, it was time to bring in some meat in Charlie Coyle and they also
send to the Bruins, William Zellers, who was a former third round pickup last year, who's a very
intriguing offensive prospect, has a long way to go before he hits the NHL and the Avs just don't
have that time to wait. But, getting into the absolutely insane new and improved center depth
that the Avs have acquired, it is the best in the NHL, hands down. There is no better center depth,
one through four, in the entire league than there is on the Colorado Avalanche. Just take a look at
that. Not only do you have Nathan McKinnon, who has been the best player in the league in the last
two years. I'm not saying he's the best player in the league, but he's been outperforming McDavid
for the last two years. I still think McDavid is the best player, but honestly, for the last two
seasons, that has not been the case. Now, this season, you can try and say something like,
oh, well, Leon Dreisaitl plays next to Conor McDavid. Like, I don't want to hear those
arguments. Come on, now. Nathan McKinnon is the dog at this current moment. It is his pedestal
to lose. Right behind Nathan McKinnon is Brock Nelson, who was playing first line center on the
Islanders. Now, going to a role where he doesn't have to be the guy, just a guy, is so much more
relaxing for him. Playing right next to Valerie Natchooskian, and in that game against Toronto,
Brock Nelson and Charlie Coyle's first game as an Av, Brock Nelson and Valerie Natchooskian looked
like they had played with each other for years. They looked like lifelong teammates. The way they
were clicking off of each other, it was perfect. A match made in heaven. You also got a cerebral
player with a good shot, Jonathan Druin, right next to him. And if Jerry Bednar wants to switch
around the lines, which he does all the time, he's most likely going to put Arturi Lekin in down
there for a stretch of times. He might even put Marty Netschus down there next to Brock Nelson,
just to see what that combo looks like. The possibilities are endless, and this top six is so
versatile. Coming right on down to that third line, we have the man, the myth, the legend,
Charlie Coyle, right next to Ross Colton, or Ross Golton, like we like to call him here in Colorado.
It is an already insane pairing. You see it flying. It had, it combined for three assists in that
first game against Toronto. Charlie Coyle with a wicked feed to Jonathan Druin, already paying
dividends. Ross Colton looks like a new man. He's flying out there. He looks invigorating. He's had
more assists in these last five games that he's played than he has basically in the rest of the
whole season. So he's getting those assist numbers up, and he's always scoring at a steady rate.
Yoel Kibiranta, career high amount in goals. I think he has 14 at this point, so he's already
finding his game. He's finding his good offense, and he's no slouch defensively either. So that
third line is already a good meaty line to throw out there. Moving right on down to that fourth
line, no slouch whatsoever. We got Jack Drury. Now Jack Drury can honestly be the 3C of this team,
although Charlie Coyle is just bigger and older and more experienced. No offense to Jack Drury,
but Jack Drury is a very smart player. He's got great leadership experience. He's been
lettered multiple times on previous teams. He's very young too at 24, so an amazing contract for
the apps to have on their books, and he's a wizard on the faceoff dot. Now to be quite honest with
you, Myles Wood and Jimmy Vesey probably not actually going to be in the final lineup.
That's just a pencil in. Logan O'Connor is most likely always going to be in over Myles Wood,
especially if you know Jared Bednar and how much he likes to play favorites with some of his
players. Myles Wood is not getting a lot of time in the playoffs unfortunately. Jimmy Vesey, good,
plays a hard game. Be interesting to see him in some games. I think he's going to definitely share
the job with another forward who was scratched from this lineup in Parker Kelly, who's also
quite a dog, has an absolute motor, never stops playing, never gives up. Love them both. So really
either Jimmy Vesey or Parker Kelly, you're looking good. But this answers the question of one of the
that going into the trade deadline, which is not enough depth. It was the largest weakness,
and they've solved it. Now they are an incredibly deep teams, especially center wise. It is going
to be a war in Dallas in round one. Mark my words about that. But let's get into the nitty gritty
about some of the new acquisitions. So Brock Nelson, the man himself. Now he took a lot of
for this photo because he's got some gray in his hair, but I am pleased to announce that when he
got to Colorado, he did this amazing Turkish fade that he got rid of the gray and he looks
quite great. So never dunk on the Silver Fox ever again. He is a absolute stud, but he's 33 years
of age, 6'4", big boy. I don't know if any of you saw, but in the last game against the Chicago
Blackhawks, the 19-year-old defenseman Artem Leshinoff, playing his first NHL game, tried to
take a run at Brock Nelson and Brock Nelson just knocked him down and stared him down. It was
hilarious. Never try to run into the Brock wall. Now in just 62 games, he has 44 points,
58 point pace. Not bad, but honestly he is capable of so much more. He's been playing on a pretty bad
Islanders team. No offense to any of you Isles fans out there, but he has been on a 30. He has
hit 30 goals in each of his last three seasons. This season is the only one in a while for him
where he's not on pace to hit 30 and he's going to go from being with kind of nobodies on the
Islanders lines to being with Val Nichushkin stapled right next to him. So he is going to pay
dividends. He is going to feed families. Brock Nelson is. We love him here. Getting into the
second guy, we have Charlie Coyle, also 33 years of age and 6'3". He is a big meaty boy. He's had
60 points in a very recent season as of late. This season having a bit of a down year like every other
Bruins player. So unfortunately the big bad Bruins are no more, but Charlie Coyle can continue his
big hitting ways here in Colorado. And you are already seeing him all over the ice harassing
people, knocking them down. It is great to see. And both him and Brock Nelson are absolute studs
in the faceoff. They are going to feed families for the playoff, for the faceoffs. It is great to
see. Now Chris McFarland, in my opinion, deserves GM of the Year award. There is no doubt about it.
Bringing in Mackenzie Blackwood, bringing in Brock Nelson, Charlie Coyle, Ryan Lindgren. Just so
many trades over the course of this year that honestly he needs to be rewarded. And like he
said himself, there is an expectation from the players. They are in their prime years. McCarr,
McKinnon. They deserve to have all in for these years because what are you going to wait two
years just for prospects to get here and waste the prime years of your stars? No, you are going to go
in now and bring some studs to play next to them. Fully support what GM Chris McFarland is doing.
I absolutely love it. And honestly, I think you guys will too. But let me know what you think.
