AI GeneratedThe Dodgers secured a decisive 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, silencing critics after a recent slump. The win was fueled by a strong start from Clayton Kershaw and a standout performance by Mookie Betts, reinforcing the team's status as World Series favorites despite ongoing concerns regarding their bullpen's consistency in closing tight games.
The Dodgers just shocked the MLB.
Despite the Dodgers struggling the last few weeks, they have beat one of the best teams
in baseball tonight, shocking the baseball world.
We get into exactly what happened in this edition of Dodgers Digest.

But we know the Dodgers tonight got a big W tonight at Dodgers Stadium, 5-1.
A massive win.
A team that really needed a W after losing that series against the St. Louis Cardinals
earlier this week in a really bad fashion, right?
I mean, it was definitely not a good way for the Dodgers to lose that series just a few
days ago, right?
Losing 2 out of 3 at Dodgers Stadium against a team that's absolutely going nowhere this
season.
The Blue Jays, as we know, are World Series contenders, right?
I mean, they didn't beat a scrub team here.
This team is the real deal.
The Toronto Blue Jays are a very good team this season, right?
And the Dodgers found a way to defeat them.
And it's an absolutely big win, to say the least, for the Dodgers.
But how did the Dodgers get it done?
Well, I mean, it was Clayton Kershaw tonight.
Clayton Kershaw had one of his best starts of this season.
Of course, you might say, what are you talking about?
He gave up 7 hits.
But he found a way to pitch to the Jams, right?
Which was super important.
And he only had one walk in 6 innings.
So he definitely had control today.
Sure, the Blue Jays jumped on him.
The Blue Jays, as we know, had a bit of a rally there going into 2nd inning, where they
had a huge opportunity.
The Blue Jays definitely had a big opportunity in the 2nd inning to really score more runs,
right?
But as you can see on the final score line, they only got one run.
And with the bases loaded, that big line drive, Mookie Betts makes an amazing catch and is
able to double up the Blue Jays there with the bases loaded, throwing it to 2nd to get
the runner out that was, of course, on 2nd and was ahead of 2nd since it was a line drive.
Mookie Betts had a great defensive play as we know, a short stop.
And then he ends up getting the winning home run.
And I think everybody out there, there's been a lot of criticism thrown at Mookie Betts,
sadly.
Because, I mean, what are we doing here?
I mean, I never criticized him.
You never heard me on this channel ever criticize Mookie Betts.
I might have said he's got to play better, but I never outright criticized him like some
people, you know, in the comments have, and I think a lot of people in the fan base have
as well.
I mean, there were some people out there even saying to trade Mookie Betts, which is absolutely
absurd.
It's absurd to think about it.
I mean, come on, Mookie Betts is never going to leave L.A.
I mean, this guy is going to retire as an L.A. Dodger.
He is going to retire as an L.A. Dodger, and I think tonight it was proof of that.
Mookie Betts had a legendary night for L.A.
Getting a big catch, as we know, getting the Dodgers out of that big jam in the 2nd, and
then having the 2-run shot.
With 2 outs, too.
I mean, the Dodgers put together that rally, getting those 2 runs, not really much of a
rally, right?
But Otani gets on, and then Mookie Betts hits it out to give the Dodgers a 2-to-1 lead,
and basically, that was, of course, the winning runs.
This game had so many great moments early on.
It was a stressful game, to say the least, as Dodger fans, because of the first inning,
the Dodgers had a big opportunity to take the lead, right?
With the bases loaded, Freddie Freeman strikes out, makes it 1-out, and then Will Smith narrowly
misses hitting that.
It was actually 1st and 2nd, my mistake, 1st and 2nd, Freddie Freeman strikes out, and
then Will Smith hits that ball, should have been a 3-run shot, but Snyder makes a big
catch there in left field, and as we know, Thales got on and strikes out after that.
So, that was, of course, in the first inning, you thought that was going to be a big moment
in this game, right?
Look at the offense of the Dodgers, it wasn't the best, right?
The offense wasn't the best, if you look at all the players, but they had timely hits,
right?
Timely hits, in the end, were what was important, Ohtani going 3-for-5, Mookie Betts going 2-for-4,
right there, that's 5 hits, and everybody else didn't have to be hot because their top
two hitters got it done tonight, right?
But the Dodgers in the first inning, yeah, that was, of course, kind of frustrating to
watch.
You know, 3-4-5 coming up with nobody out first and second, and they're not able to
move the runners, and early on, you're thinking, wow, this might actually be an important moment
in this game, and it's really not meaning much, right?
The Dodgers end up blowing the Blue Jays out 5-1, you know, Max Scherzer, ex-Dodger, pitched
well for the Blue Jays, right?
He pitched well for the most part, but in the end of the day, the Dodgers just had the
upper hand, and really, come on.
I mean, the Dodgers are showing why they're still World Series favorites.
I mean, we're going to be kind of, I mean, I'm going to sound like a broken record probably
the next few days, because I think the Dodgers are going to take care of business this weekend
against the Blue Jays, and kind of shut everybody up around baseball, talking about how the
Dodgers are in crisis, and the Dodgers are not going to win this year, and all that kind
of stuff, right?
I mean, I never criticized the offense of the Dodgers, right?
I mean, I have criticized the Dodgers' bullpen, because they haven't got it done at times,
right?
The Dodgers' bullpen has struggled at different times this season, right?
There's no doubt about that, the bullpen hasn't been where the Dodgers want it to be, right?
And that has been a problem, but offensively, sure, the Dodgers have struggled at times,
but I never said, go out and go get more offense, because the Dodgers already have
enough offense, right?
I mean, the Dodgers have the best lineup in baseball, you know, they have the best lineup
in baseball, they have the best hitter in baseball in the National League, in Will Smith,
and he's a catcher, too.
I mean, the Dodgers have everything going for them offensively, yeah, they're going
to get cold at times, because, you know, that's normal, but today, the Dodgers were playing
against, you know, one of the best teams in baseball, and they won 5-1, so we cannot
be concerned at all about the Dodgers' offense, right?
You cannot be concerned about the Dodgers' offense, you can't, you can't be concerned
about it, you just can't, I mean, I think you gotta be more concerned about the Dodgers
finding a way to close games out, right?
That's going to be the big question mark, are the Dodgers going to be able to, like
today, they were able to do it, right?
I mean, they had quite a bit of a lead there in the later innings, 5-1, it's much more
comfortable than, say, the game was still 2-1, let's say the Dodgers don't tack on those
insurance runs, it still would have been 2-1, so, yeah, I mean, obviously having a 5-1 lead
makes a big difference, right, the Dodgers tacking on three runs there in the 7th, that
really helped out the 8th and the 9th inning for that Dodgers' bullpen, right?
But it's not always going to be the case, sometimes it's going to be a low-scoring game
and the Dodgers have had trouble, definitely this season, it seems like, closing out those
games and that's what's going to, I think that's the only thing I'm concerned, but the
Dodgers have so many games in August where they're going to be tested, right?
They still got to play the Blue Jays Saturday and Sunday, then after that it's the Angels,
those got to be wins at Angel Stadium, got to get three W's there, even though the Angels
always play the Dodgers tough, I mean, I don't know why, but got to get those wins
out there at Angel Stadium, then they come home and play San Diego for three, so that's
going to be tough, the Padres lost tonight, that's what's good, the Dodgers gained a game
on them, so yeah, I mean, everything good for the Dodgers, tonight was a special night
at Dodgers Stadium, Kobe Bryant, bobblehead night, all the fans showed up early, which
is super awesome, a lot of fans out there, which is always great, because the Dodgers
fans are the best, you guys know it, we're the best fans in baseball, as always, make
sure to subscribe, and let's go Dodgers, woo!
