The king has finally made a move. LeBron watch, ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud to say it's over.
He's headed to the city of brotherly love. The 22-time all-star reportedly chose Philadelphia
after an aggressive recruiting effort and he will sign a reported two-year eight million dollar deal.
As we all know, he left the Lakers this offseason pretty much drug out free agency for
the decision. In fact, the entire NBA has basically been put on pause while we waited
for LeBron to pick a city or team, possibly the final city and team of his Hall of Fame career.
Now according to Sham Sharania, it came down to three real contenders. Cleveland, his hometown
team, won a championship there. Miami won championships there and now the Sixers. And now
we're going to see if the king gets love in Philly. Philly has made some aggressive moves
this offseason. They traded for Jalen Brown this summer and that move alone reportedly
got LeBron's attention. You add in Joel Embiid when he's healthy, Tyrese Maxey and all of a sudden
a team that had no shot a month ago is a legitimate finalist. Bob Myers, the guy who built
Golden State's dynasty, is now running basketball ops for Philly's ownership group and has been
saying flat out that the Sixers give LeBron his best chance to win right now. That's a heavy
statement from someone with that resume. Now you add in LeBron's resume and the 76ers just like
that became legit contenders. Remember, this is the franchise that Knicks fans have been laughing
at for quite some time. They haven't even been to the NBA finals since 2001. They haven't even been
to a conference finals since then. But LeBron to Philly is an attempt to erase two decades
of playoff heartbreak in one move.
