The SHOCKING TRUTH Behind the Braden Schneider signing...
1 Video View·Jul 14, 2026
The real reason the Rangers have signed Brayden Schneider has been revealed and the implications
it has on other players on the team are very serious heading into this season. We're going
to break down everything Chris Drury is about to do, what the plan is with Brayden Schneider,
and what the plan is with Scott Morrow because it's a very interesting case. We're going to
break that all down and what fans are saying out there on social media as well because Rangers fans
are very torn on what's happened so far this offseason. We're going to break down all of that
and much, much more in this episode of Rangers Digest. But before we do guys, a quick reminder
to hit that subscribe button. We've noticed that about 80% of you guys who watch these videos are
not subscribed to the channel. As more viewers come in, as you know, you guys are watching the
videos. If you're new here, the percentage goes up. So if you don't want to miss out on anything
that goes on with the Rangers, hit that free subscribe button. If you're over on Facebook,
it's the follow button that's free and the support over there has been unbelievable as well.
You don't want to miss out on anything that's happening with the Rangers, so hit both of those
buttons. But let's get right into it, guys. Of course, if you missed it yesterday, Brayden
Schneider has been re-signed to a one-year $5.5 million contract. Now, a lot of people think
it was too rich in my video yesterday. If you missed that one, I was saying that I think it's
about fair. It's one year. There's a lot of flexibility with the one year. You can trade
him at the deadline if you want. You can figure it out next offseason if you want to re-sign him.
And the 5.5 is right in the middle of his projection, which was on a bridge 4.5 and
long-term deal 6.5. But the fact that he got 5.5 leads me to believe on a long-term deal,
he was asking for a lot of money. But anyway, you can punt that and deal with that next season. But
5.5 or during this season, $5.5 million for the next year. Now, the Rangers are in a bit of a
cap crunch all of a sudden with this contract signed. But the reason that they have signed him,
there's a couple of them. All right. First of all, they think he's a high character guy. They
want to keep in the organization. They realized they made a mistake with Will Borgen. They trade
Will Borgen to the Boston Bruins. That's not the only time we're going to be mentioning the Boston
Bruins in this episode. So stay tuned for that. But Ray Schneider is a decent, I call him two-way
defenseman, defensive defenseman, maybe young guy. Don't think he's been necessarily put in a
position to succeed over the last couple of years. I think that he's about to take on a role this
year as a third pairing defenseman with a Robertson or with a Vaconite on any given night
that is better suited for him, which is a sheltered, you know, less minutes role on the
third pairing. And he's always looked good there. Like he's looked fine when he's playing that
position. The last couple of years when he's been trusted with, you know, tougher competition,
more minutes, all of those things, he hasn't looked good. So in that case, you know, he's not
necessarily getting better, but I think he's a lot better than people realize at this point. So
there's a couple of reasons why they've signed him for those reasons. The fact that he is a
serviceable NHL defenseman, the fact that I think they don't trust Scott Morrow. And I want to talk
about that a little bit in this video as well. But guys, before we go any further, this video
is brought to you by prize picks and prize picks is America's number one sports picks app. And it
brings you closer to all the action on a daily basis. We have some fun picks and promotions for
you guys later in this episode, as the world cup semifinals are on the next two days, which is very
exciting, but make sure to download the app using the link in the description and using the promo
code digest when you do so as new users get $50 instantly in the lineups when they play their
first $5. But to get back to it, range Snyder is a guy that I think is a lot better than people
realize. And he's going to be playing a role that's better suited for him this year. Now,
a couple of things I want to get to in terms of some fan reaction, all that stuff. A lot of people
are not necessarily thrilled by this, but the underrated thing about Braden Schneider too,
and people might scoff at this, he plays games like he stays relatively healthy as well. So keep
that in mind. Like you need guys to play games. You can't have guys injured all the time. One of
reasons why he was trusted with a bigger role last year specifically is because he had to move
up in the lineup because Adam Fox got hurt. Right. And we found that very quickly. He can't play top
pairing minutes. Right. So you can make the argument for sure that, Hey, like after this
contract's done, if you do want to resign in which I don't think is the case, uh, you know,
you can't pay him $8 million cause he's not, he's not getting any better and he's not taking on a
bigger role on that. I could agree with, right. Which is why the reason I think they signed this
especially the one year is to trade him. I think they're going to trade him, but there's an
interesting caveat. A lot of people are comparing this to Ryan Lindgren where they tried to trade
him. Nobody was given anything worth substance. And they said, okay, we'll trade you at next
year's deadline then as a UFA, which now Braden Schneider, by the way, is an RFA, which I think
could actually be more attractive for certain teams. But, uh, you know, they hold onto him,
hold onto him, hold onto him, trade him at the deadline. I feel like this is kind of where
that's headed as well. Right. I think at this point, I think that's the plan. And I think it's
a good plan. I think that you can trade them at the deadline because one thing that we learned
yesterday as well from Vince Mercogliano is what they were looking for was a top six forward for
Braden Schneider. Then it turned into, we'll take a top nine forward for Braden Schneider.
And then it turned into nobody wants to trade us a top six or top nine forward. So we're going to
keep Braden Schneider and we're going to sign them to $5.5 million. And that's kind of how that
worked out. So again, I'm much higher on Braden Schneider than a lot of people. I will openly
admit it right here on the channel. You guys know, and I'm open. I'm much higher on a lot of
players and people seem to agree with, uh, especially last season, but, uh, that's just
the way I see the game. And I appreciate all this perspectives down there in the comments as well.
So keep flooding them guys. I appreciate reading through everything every day, but, um, again,
he's a guy that I think has upside, maybe not upside is a word, but can do fine in the role
that he's about to play again this season, barring any injuries, of course. Right. But,
uh, what does this mean for a guy like, you know, Scott Morrow as well? And that's something I want
to get to as well. But you can see here, if the Rangers don't trade Braden Schneider before the
season starts, it's a bad contract. Now, I don't know if they're going to do that at this point,
I could see it being a deadline thing with the way that the team is currently constructed.
Uh, it also limits their ability to get something that they need, which is a top nine forward.
Right. And you still have Manta out there. Uh, you have bunting, you have Tolvin in,
and there's a bunch of players, right? You sign some other players. Where does this leave Albert
Schmitz too? Like if you were to trade a Braden Schneider, there is more of a opportunity for
Albert Schmitz to make the team. That's a whole separate conversation. We're going to do another
video on that. Stay tuned for that in the coming days. Uh, and also leaves Morrow in no man's land,
Scott Morrow. So where does it leave a guy like Scott Morrow who doesn't really have trust from
the coaching staff? I don't know if he has trust from the organization. All of a sudden, he was
kind of a part of the centerpiece, maybe even the centerpiece of that, you know, Keandre Miller
trade. Where does that leave a guy like that now? Because he was called up last year with the
injury to Adam Fox. He was given power play time. It didn't look like they trusted him. He barely
played sometimes. It's an interesting situation. So, uh, also can't lose them to waivers. So
there's a decision that needs to be made. There is a real world. They can try and trade Braden
Schneider before the season starts. I just think it's unlikely or less likely and that they could
probably get more at the deadline because he is a right shot defenseman and they can retain salary
at the deadline because he is on an expiring contract. So it's an interesting situation.
That is for sure. And, uh, you can see this from Adam Braden Schneider is a much better,
uh, than he gets credit for. He was not put in a position to, uh, or he was put in a position
to fail last season with his usage. I don't know about that. I think you need to trust some of
your younger players with, uh, you know, you have to see them grow. And I just think this is a guy
that probably will not at this point. And that's just what it is. But I think in the position that
he's going to be playing, it's fine just for this year, but you have to figure something out beyond
that, right? Like it, I don't know if he can return, right? You can't sign him to seven,
$8 million next year and have him come back. That's just not what's going to happen. That just
can't happen. I don't know. We'll see what happens because it is at the end of the day, ladies and
gentlemen, and anything can happen under Christopher. But, um, you can see this,
Patrick Nemeth and it was Ben Harper, by the way, both of those guys, are they,
are they in the NHL? I don't know. I don't know is the question I should probably do some research,
but anyway, Eric Gustafson, that's all right. And you're all back in nine, right? Like you're all
back in nine. And now someone was making the point on Twitter, as you can see here, Greg Kaplan, uh,
that the funniest part about it is that it was actually a brain Schneider who was holding Euro
back to nine and back last season. I think Braden Schneider's head was scrambled. I think he was
being asked to play a lot of different things, a lot of different, uh, he's been asked to play
a lot of different systems. He's seen a lot of different head coaches in his career already.
I think last year was just a tough transitional period for a lot of players. Um, and then they
finally figured it out near the end of the season. And I think that a lot of players like brain
Schneider were like, Hey, we need to play top line minutes, figured this out. You're playing
this type of role for us now. Like we'll see what he does this year in a sheltered role, which I,
in the past have seen, he plays well in. So we will see what happens with that. But here's the
thing for me, guys, the biggest problem with this contract, right? The real reason they signed him
high character guy that gives them flexibility on the one, uh, your contract 5.5, they can
definitely move, right? When you're looking at their current cap situation, $2.4 million,
they do not have any cap space now to go out and sign something that they need. They no longer have
the cap space to go out and get a top six, top nine for it. They don't, whether it's free agency,
whether it's via trade. Now trade could get interesting because if you move off some money,
you can make it work. The braid and Schneider contract is not the problem here. And this is
something I made a video about the other day. And I saw the comments and people were like,
it's not that big of a deal, blah, blah, blah. And there were other people who are
agreeing with me as well. The biggest problem, can you figure it out with their cap structure
this year? It's a move that they made this off season, right? They added some, they added some
defense. I like the Sean Dursey move, right? Like they're better on defense. The forward group's
better. They spent $11 million in Dorothea, hopefully scores 30 to 40 goals. What is the
bigger problem right now with their cap space? If they wanted to add a top nine guy, because it
wouldn't cost you anything crazy. Have you spotted it yet? Have you spotted the problem with their
cap yet? Okay. I'll give you another hint. Have you spotted the issue with the cap yet? A move
that they've made that is it putting them in this situation. For those of you who are listening on
Apple podcasts or Spotify, it's Corpus Allo. Why would you trade for Jonas Corpus Allo when you
have Dylan Garand? I made a video about this the other day. Now you're carrying Corpus Allo's cap
hit. And I saw people making the point that, you know, if you come into training camp and Dylan
Garand is so much better, which by the way, he would have to be so much better than Corpus Allo
to get that spot because of what they've just done with this move. He would have to be lights
out compared to Corpus Allo to get that spot. You can just put Corpus Allo on waivers and he goes
down to Hartford, but you're still carrying some money. And that's not the point. Why would you
acquire this goaltender? Like I knew that they were going to add a veteran, probably, or some
guy in free agency for that competition to not hand the reins over to Dylan Garand without him
absolutely earning it, which I think that he's done a good job of so far. And then what we saw
last year, and of course, small sample size with three NHL games. Why would you go get this guy?
Unless it was an extension of the Will Borgen trade to get that done. And I know the Bruins
are holding onto some of the salary. It's not as full cap hit. It's still a significant cap hit
for a guy that's probably going to be a horrific goaltender for this team. Something to think on.
I'm just saying, I feel like that's a bigger problem with the cap right now than a $5.5
million contract for one year for Brayden Schneider. That's all I'm going to say. The
fact that they're left with $2 million at this point, because I don't think you needed to add
Corpus Allo. Now, in the grand scheme of things, of course, could you free up, you know,
$5 million of the Schneider contract to go and get a player? Yeah, of course, of course.
But I like that defense core, the way that it's currently constructed. I do. I do. And I think
that Schneider has proven in his NHL career, when he plays in a role like that, he's fine. He's fine.
And we're going to see it again this year. When he's playing top pairing minutes, does he look
lost? Yes, but he's not going to be playing top pairing minutes unless there's an injury, of
course. Now, what happens with Scott Morrow? I'll have another video on that. It's going to be a
crazy offseason. Still, there's still some moves to be made because this roster, especially the
forward group, I just don't think they're done. I don't think they've done enough of what they said
they wanted to do, which is also scary because that means that they're definitely not done
because we know these guys, sometimes their egos too, like they want to do what they said they
were going to do. It's going to be interesting. It's going to be crazy. But guys, this video is
brought to you by PrizePix. PrizePix is America's number one sports picks app and brings you closer
to all the action on a nightly basis. We got some great picks for you guys now. Since the World Cup
is coming to an end, we have France and Spain later this afternoon, which should be very exciting. I
believe the winner of this game, which I am picking France to win, will win the World Cup.
So I'm going to go more on goals for Kylian Mbappe. Lamine Yamal has to have a moment in this
tournament. He's not in great form. Spain, honestly, they've been getting the job done,
but they don't look great. So I'm going to go more on goals for Lamine Yamal. Shots on target,
more for Kylian Mbappe. He's been unbelievable as well. So that's a great matchup. And then coming
up tomorrow, this is crazy. Argentina and England. I'm going to go more on goals for Harry Kane. I'm
going to go more on shots for Jude Bellingham, who's been a man. He's dragged them here the last
couple of games. He's been awesome. I'm going to go more on saves for Martinez. And I don't think
Messi will score in this game. Again, I'm going to say, yeah, I don't think Argentina has been
that good. I have to be honest, but they've been getting the job done just like Spain. And I have
to respect it because that's sports. So, uh, should be very exciting. Anyone can win still
as much as we hate on teams or, you know, other people hate on teams. And even I'm saying, you
know, they're not playing that well at the end of the day, they're getting the job done. So we'll
see if they get the job done again. It should be very exciting, but guys make sure to download the
app using the link in the description and using the promo code digest when you do so as new users
get $50 instantly in their lineups when you play your first $5. But guys, let me know in the
comments, how you feel about Braden Schneider's contract. First of all, the reasons that they've
signed him because, you know, Chris Drury came out and said, well, he didn't come out and say,
but we know that they wanted to acquire a top six, top nine forward. They couldn't get it done.
They signed him instead. They still have the flexibility to trade him. They think he's a high
character guy, all of these things. But I think that some of the money going to corporate solo,
that is, that is tough. Let me know how you feel about all of this in the comments below,
Braden Schneider, 5.5 million. Will he make it to the season as a ranger? What does this mean
for a guy like Scott Morrow? They're going to have to make a decision on a two and Chris Drury.
I don't think he's done with the forward group yet. I think there are still fireworks to be had.
