The Los Angeles Dodgers have just robbed the MLB as with their first draft selection in the 2026 LB draft They were able to select the guy who was ranked way higher than what they were able to pick him in and not only that He models his game after a Dodgers great We tell you everything you need to know about the Dodgers first round selection and Bo Lawrence here today on Dodgers digest Welcome everybody. Let's go with it with the 40th overall pick The Los Angeles Dodgers have selected Bo Lawrence in the 2026 MLB draft a tall shortstop third baseman type player that is really really talented come coming out of high school in Carolina and Really do like what we saw sleeper Dodgers here six foot five overall and shortstop 40th overall pick He was ranked 21st by MLB pipeline and number seven in Fangraph some Scouts have even compared his offensive profile to Freddie Freeman And of course, we all know and love Frederick Now this is such a huge thing for the Los Angeles Dodgers and obviously we're very excited about before we tell you more about Lawrence Well, let's know this video is brought to you by price picks price picks is America's number one sports picks app And it's the best way to get in on the action on all of your favorite sports Whether that be picking on the Dodgers picking on the other MLB games picking on the home run Derby is obviously something that is really really cool and fun that now have selections for World Cup Still going on for a little bit more got the semifinals and finals coming up And of course and WNBA PGA NBA Summer League a lot of stuff to use from so go check it out with the link in The description use code digest when signing up for an account We got some pics for the home run derby coming up later on in the show Great time to play obviously taco Tuesday flex Friday all my favorites and we got the all-star game home run derby coming up So that's really exciting as well Fabian Ardaya also had the report that he tries to model himself out of Freddie Freeman now If you look at the swing profile It does kind of model more after Matt Olsen now Olsen and Freeman weren't that far off in a lot of ways with their swing Profile, so I don't want it to be you know That's sort of a skewing thing But it is something to note that when you look at the swing that gives Matt Olsen But he tries to model his game after Freddie Freeman and really does kind of have a similar swing to both those guys I am thinking that Lawrence is going to be a potential third base option when we get to the major league level a Lot of these guys are probably you know short staffs That's kind of a bow was throughout his high school career But arm profile kind of the way that he's able to you know, really hammer the ball over there It does speak to him probably being around the the third base bag for his career in the major leagues But obviously we'll have some time to figure that out good thing here and I think something that is underrated as the Dodgers ability to go out and Really develop prospects is something that is underrated and drafting a high school player like Bo it gives them more time to kind of come out here and Develop bow, so that's really really something that you like high upside high floor Prep bat. So again, this guy was projected to be a lot higher in the end And excuse me MLB drafts and was not able to be taken before then potential hit tool He showed off in the summer big six foot five frame with 30 plus homer juice in the bat likely third base, but can play shortstop to kick off his pro career and Not to say that the timeline works out But there's a certain Dodgers player right now at shortstop who might be retiring in You know save a couple years save about four or five Maybe six years right when maybe Bo could start to come up play a little third Well, he takes four months. He didn't play a little short There's there's some options for him in the future, but a big thing was his rankings I think that it was something that everybody really looked at and said that he is really a sleeper In fact baseball America saying that if a team really wants Bo Lawrence It might have to move aggressively because he was one of their 10 first-round sleepers on the radar and he was one of the last selections about the If not the last election, I believe of the first round of the MLB draft. So really excited for that Now one thing about Bo I think in a lot of ways is definitely going to be you know What we can see from the bat don't have a lot of stats for you because I was at least in high school But a couple stats we do find across his, you know max preps thing for 20 average 517 OEP Obviously, there's more to that than what we can say but the plus bat and again you can go look at this photo right here and see the kind of grades that he got in The bottom of that screen hitting at 50 the power at 60 the run at 40 the fielding at 50 the arm 55 The BA draft ranking was around 38th, and he was the 40th selection So again a really big pickup in a steal in a lot of people's eyes for the Los Angeles Dodgers now I flashed it up there on the screen But obviously the Dodgers continuing to make picks into today and wanted to get you the second rounder That's second round with a second selection for the Los Angeles Dodgers as well as they have selected a right-handed pitcher out of the University of Florida with Russell Sandefur with the 132nd overall pick in the 2026 NLB draft now Sandefur is interesting You'll look at his statistics throughout his time in college baseball summer leagues all the things you can look here With his st. Louis work st Leo excuse me where he started his NCAA career having a 5 and 2 record a 3.35 earned run average across 11 games 8 of those being starts Then he went to Danville and the Appalachian League play in the summer Obviously then Central Florida, Florida played a lot of time obviously down there really really good throughout his couple years 338 at Central, Florida 442 at Florida 489 on the r80 r89 I think a good thing about him is on his whip, you know Always low as more ones at both Danville and st Leo 1 2 at Central, Florida and at Florida against SEC and big 12 caliber talent So those are the first two selections do like the upside of a lot of these guys something to kind of look into with Russell Sandefur and the Fastball below all this on all the pitch mix here is the Dodgers last pick of day one 6-1 easy delivery low slots Supinator big sinker can get up to 97. He'll rest around the 92 to 95 range 2800 plus rpm sweeper is Really incredible to have at the college level and I'm expecting that spin rate to be probably increased with the Dodgers ability to kind of get pitchers in the right place and then is able to create a fade with a 82 to 85 mile an hour changeup solid three pitch mix back and upside. I expect him to add some sort of Probably fourth pitch in this maybe it's just a fastball to go alongside the sinker Maybe he tries to get something like another fastball pitch like a cutter potentially But I do expect the fourth pitch to be added into saying the first kind of mantra on this Now speaking of pitching fun enough There are a couple of things going on with the Dodgers and they've got a third base coach That'll be pitching a home run Derby and he'll be pitching to Kyle Schwarber I believe is the guy that he's going to pitch it to But either way I got some picks for you for the home run Derby and taking some mores across the board on Round one taking the more on junior commie narrow the second place finisher last year ten and a half homers I'm taking the more on that Kyle Schrober I'm taking his more on ten and a half homers the hometown guy for the Phillies in Philadelphia and then Wilson Contreras st But a Red Sox heart right now. I'm taking the more with his nine and a half home runs obviously Really excited for the home run Derby.
