Overlanding Dixie National Forest | Utah's Hidden Hoodoos

What's going on guys? We are back with another video. My name is Armando and I'm Nicole and on today's adventure we're going to be exploring the Dixie National Forest. Yeah, so it's just a few trails and routes that I kind of made myself. We have never explored this area so we don't know what to expect so we're just going to see what we find along the way. The trail starts off a bit rocky, climbing steadily through a beautiful pine forest as you continue to gain elevation. I know you guys are going to ask, I'm sure you guys have already seen it in a few shots, but yes those are the Anzo USA headlights and those are currently on my truck are the final production headlights. So after almost two years we finally have a final production set. What I'm currently been doing is testing them, making sure everything is good, everything works, they have no problems, and once we finish testing them they will be out for purchase. I haven't been told an official date, haven't been told official pricing, but once I have more information I do have a video coming out walking through every all of the new features and all the features of the headlights themselves. So make sure you guys are subscribed to the channel so that way you don't miss out on that update, but just want to address that because I know there's going to be a lot of questions on what's up with the headlights. As we neared the end of the trail, steep cliff edges began appearing alongside the route. We could see hints of the red rock landscape peeking through the pine trees, but nothing could have prepared us for this incredible view that awaited us. What an absolutely epic spot this trail ends at and I wanted to show you guys because I know a lot of times the drone footage exaggerates what you see on the drone versus what you see on the ground, but the truck's right behind me and I'm going to flip around and you can see all the hoodoos and red rock below me. Absolutely beautiful. It's just as beautiful in person on the ground as you can see in the drone and then I'm going to show you. I'm just going to walk over to the other side so I can show you what you guys can see also from the other side of this point. Here we are on the other side of the cliff. You can see the truck just back there. Hopefully you guys can hear me over the wind because it is pretty breezy right now. I wanted to show you guys what you guys can see on this side. You can see all the hoodoos and stuff like and again video never does it justice when you guys are seeing it on here versus in person and then you also have all those hoodoos out there that are really cool to see. This spot is really epic. We've been here about an hour just taking the views taking pictures and it's been an amazing experience but we have a lot of ground to cover. We have a few other trails to hit today before camp so we're going to keep moving. So coming back from the overlook this trail is an in-and-back trail it's about five miles one way so about 10 miles round trip so we're currently working our way back out because we do have a few more trails planned for today that I'm basically connecting them all as much as I could uh with on off of road but there is a few places where we do have to hit some pavement in order to get to the next trail it's less than a couple miles in you know total between the few trails that we're connecting so it should be a fun day I'm not sure if we're going to top off that view but we might because like I said these are all places we've never been before and a lot of the trails themselves aren't necessarily recorded very well and not a lot of information on them online so we're out here exploring and miles before turning off on our next trail so we just turned off a pavement and we are headed down to strawberry point the strawberry point is about eight miles of trails to get to strawberry point and then about another six to seven miles back out it is a big loop so we're coming in on the east side and then exiting on the more west side of the loop so we're going to see what it's about apparently from what I've seen online it's really more really cool hoodoos so we're going to see if it's better than the previous spot that we had or the other spot was better so let's see what it's all about so we have arrived here at strawberry point as you can see it's this one is a general parking area and then it's a small little hike to the actual strawberry point where we're going to be able to see hopefully a good view once we get out there hopefully you can hear me over the raging wind happening right now it's probably say it's probably about like good 20 mile an hour gusts right now but we've made it to the top of strawberry point here and it is really really pretty we got some there and then all behind me and I'll walk a little further down that way but the views here this way are I would say superior to the other spot we're at as far as distance but as far as the hoodoos themselves I think the first spot we were at was better but this is still really really cool here we are just on the other side I was back up that way before but this is the other view that you get from the ground so still really pretty a lot of hoodoos well worth checking out in your opinion in my opinion I think the other spot was better right I agree you can definitely agree I think it was a little bit more grand right I think the distance on this one like you can see in the distance is grander than the other one there but I think as far as immediately close to you I think the other one was a little bit more easy yeah so but either way both spots really cool to check out after checking out those amazing views at strawberry point we're here back in the parking lot we're gonna make a little pit stop here and eat some lunch before we hit back on the trails with lunch in full swing and it being midday and pretty hot outside we had to pull out the cyber take s2 and absolutely with it being peak summer it's probably about 90 degrees outside with being seven months pregnant it's almost unbearable and I just overheat super easily but when I have ac going on at 60 degrees makes it a lot more comfortable for her sure does the cyber take s2 pro is a great addition for those percent on your order we made our way out via the west route on strawberry point it was a well-graded road making for an easy drive before turning on to our next trip so we reached what trails are according to trails off road on the trail we're on is the hardest section of this trail it's really cool because they're all a bunch of like big little lava rocks that you have to crawl over nothing crazy they are obviously uh just a little bit of a slower section that's bumpier but so far this trail is rated a 5 and I might be spoiled a little bit from uh Moab but I would rank this at most like a 3.5 to 4 but again Moab has kind of ruined my ranking system because a Moab 4 is like a 5 potentially 6 everywhere else so but it's it's a fun trail and it's a beautiful trail we reach this next little section of the trail um ironically it doesn't have a waypoint marked but I would say this is this looks harder than what is marked on the map we got a uphill climb with some rocks just a little bit of slippage there traction control trying to do its thing this little section here I'd bump it up to about a four four and a half I could see a five potentially again I've been my scale has been ruined because of Moab but it is uh definitely a harder section here than what was previously marked which is interesting we left the lava rocks and trees behind as the trail opened up into a wide meadow offering a refreshing change of scenery well after a very fun and eventful day today we have officially arrived at camp and camp today isn't the most grandest thing but it is a nice camp spot so you can see plenty of nice open area and the biggest thing is we are fully surrounded by trees it is extremely windy today and it's supposed to be windy through the night so we're hoping with the tree coverage the wind doesn't really affect us tonight as we sleep through the night obviously in the topper that way the tent isn't rattling and the truck isn't rocking side to side but we're gonna get some dinner going and we're just gonna hang out and we are excited for tomorrow because we're gonna still be hitting some trails tomorrow morning good morning last night was a cold night as you can see we had our diesel heater up and running last night and that's due to there is a cold front coming through kind of started last night and it's going to be cold for the next couple days another factor is we also gained in elevation quite a bit from where we previously were yesterday but the biggest thing about last night was the wind luckily for us where we were this campsite was very sheltered we only had the wind only noticed the wind only a few times throughout the night but the rest of the night you would hear the wind and it sounded like big ocean waves crashing on a beach through these trees that's what it sounded like it it was crazy but the biggest reason why i bring up the wind is due to safety so yesterday when we pulled up to camp we noticed a few kind of dead looking trees that were kind of suspicious so we purposely parked way over there to avoid any dead trees and last night we were woken up with a giant bang in the middle of the night and that's because one of those dead trees we were concerned about came crashing down in the middle of night due to the wind so i wanted to bring this up as kind of a psa for if you're camping in any wooded area always pull when you pull up to camp check all the trees around you look for those dead ones that you're not too sure of and make sure you park safely or have camp safely away from that because if we parked here you know it could either damage the truck severely or it could have you could have become injured because it could have collided with the harker topper and that tarp it's only held up by shocks could have come smashing down on us or even worse if you were camping in a ground tent here you know you could have been severely injured and or killed so just wanted to bring that up as a precaution always check your surroundings but we're gonna pack up now and we're gonna hit the last trail of this trip hopefully it's going to be an epic one so going along this trail the portion we're going through is just uh looks like a previous fire had gone through here a couple years back i'm not sure exactly what fire it is but everything is kind dead and nothing survived but if you look off to the left in the distance you see this gorgeous view of what we're going to be going through in a little bit and there's like red clay and hoodoo structures in the distance and that's basically what we're descending into so it's kind of like you know right now it's not the prettiest uh view with all the uh dead trees but in the distance is our reward for this trail the distant orange rock formations slowly began to reveal themselves through the trees growing more impressive with every mile until we found ourselves completely surrounded by the towering place so although we were leaving the red rock landscape behind and entering the dense forest the lush scenery was just as breathtaking as this adventure comes to an end and the tires hit the once again i hope it inspires you to get out there
