Mt. Fuji and Lake Motosu Featured on Japan's Banknote
Lake Motosu, located in Yamanashi Prefecture, is one of Japan's renowned Fuji Five Lakes and the deepest of the five. On clear days, its calm, crystal-clear waters perfectly reflect Mt. Fuji, creating the world-famous "Reverse Fuji" scene.
This iconic landscape was inspired by Spring by the Lake, a celebrated photograph by renowned landscape photographer Koyo Okada. The image was chosen for the reverse side of Japan's ¥1,000 banknote issued in 2004, where Mt. Fuji is beautifully paired with cherry blossoms to symbolize Japan's natural beauty.
From April to May, double-flowered cherry blossoms bloom along the lakeshore, creating a spectacular spring landscape. Nearby, the Motosu Phoenix Hotel offers comfortable accommodations, natural hot springs, and panoramic views of Mt. Fuji, making it an excellent base for exploring the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.
Join us as we visit the breathtaking scenery featured on Japan's banknote and discover the timeless beauty of Mt. Fuji and Lake Motosu throughout the seasons.
