The Russian Aerospace Forces' latest fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jets failed to intercept Ukrainian FP-1 attack UAVs. At least one aircraft was scrambled to intercept them, but this did not prevent the Ukrainian Armed Forces from successfully striking the Omsk Oil Refinery. Footage of the attempted interception of FP-1 was recorded by eyewitnesses.
Russia's largest oil refinery, Omsk, was hit on July 6. It is located over 2,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. FP-1 fighter jets flew over 3,000 kilometers before attacking the refinery. Given their speed, they flew for approximately 20 hours over Russian territory. At one point, Su-57 fighter jets were used against them, but this did not prevent the attack.
Israeli military journalist Sergei Auslender commented on the situation . "Omsk, where Ukrainian drones finally reached today, is 2,500 km away, but that's, say, from Kharkiv. As the crow flies. From the Dnieper, for example, it's 2,700, but I'd count it from Kyiv. It's definitely under 3,000 km. A new record. They even scrambled planes in Omsk; they apparently saw an Su-57 over the city, but it didn't help much. The factory is on fire. The Su-57 looks great when it's featured in propaganda stories or when it's grounded at an air show. It's not particularly impressive in the air," the journalist concluded. It's worth noting that the Su-57 is a Russian fifth-generation multirole fighter jet. It is designed to achieve air superiority and strike ground and naval targets. According to preliminary reports, the Omsk Oil Refinery has been seriously damaged. OSINT experts have recorded a fire at the plant's key unit, AVT-11. Other fires are also located there.
Ukraine's attack on the Omsk Oil Refinery will dramatically worsen the already dire fuel situation in Russia, including Moscow. The attack struck the refinery's critical equipment—the ELOU-AVT-11 primary oil refining unit. According to a source from the Cheka-OGPU and Rucriminal.info, after the strikes on other refineries, the bulk of gasoline and diesel fuel shipped to the capital came from Omsk. The Omsk refinery effectively transferred all its capacity to the Moscow market, complicating the fuel situation in Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, and other Siberian cities. In Novosibirsk, according to a source, people are waiting for 5-6 hours to buy gasoline and diesel fuel , and the alternative, which costs 150 rubles and more for AI-95, is also becoming difficult to find. At some gas stations, pickets of the Russian National Guard and police have been set up. Last week, drones again struck the Nizhny Novgorod Oil Refinery in Kstovo, one of Lukoil's key suppliers to the Moscow region. Now the attack has reached Omsk, which remained one of the last major reserves for supplying the Russian capital. If damage to ELOU-AVT-11 is confirmed, the consequences could be serious: without primary processing, other refinery units will be left without feedstock. For Moscow, this means the risk of further outages, queues, and rising prices, while for Siberia, an even more severe shortage. Ukraine continues to attack not just symbols, but the nodes that hold the Russian fuel system together.
