Investigators say an undocumented immigrant was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Houston during
an attempted arrest. Now the FBI is investigating that shooting all happening this morning on Canal
Street near Wayside in Houston's East End. That's where we find Fox 26's Jillian Hartman
with the latest on this developing story. Jillian. Yeah, ICE officials say an ICE agent
shot and killed an undocumented immigrant from Mexico who allegedly tried to run him over. This
happened along the street here this morning here in the East End where we're seeing some
homes and businesses. The scene has cleared, but take a look at this cell phone video received
from a viewer of the scene earlier. The shooting happened just before 7 a.m. along Canal Street near
Wayside Drive. According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE agents were attempting
a traffic stop as part of a targeted enforcement operation to arrest an undocumented immigrant.
The driver of the vehicle they were trying to pull over was Lorenzo Salgado Arauzo. He's a
Mexican national who was in the U.S. illegally, according to ICE.
Authorities say during the attempted arrest, Lorenzo tried to get away, and according to ICE,
he ran an ICE law enforcement vehicle, refused to follow multiple verbal commands,
and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE officer. Now officials say the officer
then fired his weapon in self-defense. Lorenzo was hit, and emergency services were immediately
contacted. He was transported to the hospital where he passed away from his injuries. Now,
I spoke with the Houston Fire Department, and they tell me that Lorenzo suffered a gunshot
wound to the stomach area, and he was taken to a local hospital. Right now, the FBI is
leading this investigation. Reporting live, I'm Jillian Hartman, Fox 26 News.
