The tour includes visits to Washington Square and the Betsy Ross house, a taste of local cuisine with a classic cheesesteak, and a traditional run up the \"Rocky Stairs\" at the Philadelphia Art Museum.
Today I took a tour of Philly visiting some of the city's most iconic landmarks.
They even welcomed this guy in from Dallas because this is the place where history was made.
And here's what I saw.
Welcome to Independence Hall. I'm here with Joey Fay from Founding Forward in partnership with the Union League.
What's up, Joey?
How are you, Will? Good to have you in our city.
Even though he's from Dallas we're really happy to have him here.
It's a great day to be here. It's beautiful.
It is hot, but we're having a good time.
When I come to Independence Hall I think about the three big things that happened here.
The first, George Washington here was appointed as the first commander in chief of the Continental Army in 1775.
June 14th, in fact.
So then fast forward a year later, the reason we're here right now, 250 years ago in July, in this kind of heat,
they signed the Declaration of Independence.
That is incredible to think how much American history right here inside those walls.
From here to the Liberty Bell.
Joey, tell me about the Liberty Bell.
The Liberty Bell was originally for Pennsylvania.
It was to sound liberty. It was kind of created in honor of William Penn.
Because at that time every state or every colony had their own little form of government.
So that Liberty Bell was created to represent the Pennsylvania government.
During the Revolutionary War when the British occupied Philly, they put that in a buggy and took it up to Allentown
and we held it and protected it until we got the Brits pushed back out.
Way to go, Allentown.
Allentown. Yeah, Allentown.
Alright Mike, you've got to point out what I need to be noticing here.
Everything has a historical marker in front of it.
Right now we're going by a square.
William Penn designed his Philadelphia with five squares.
He wanted to have a green country town feel.
So he had five squares incorporated in his 1800 square city.
This one's called Washington Square.
Of course for George Washington.
That's where the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is.
You know, as a guy from Texas who did spend some time in New York,
Philadelphia is synonymous with the Eagles.
Your pride.
That's the first thing you said to me, Joey.
Is there a lot of pride locally?
People living in Philadelphia should be living among so much American history.
To recognize this is not normal.
This is not how most of America lives.
Immersed in its own history and the history of the country.
Is there pride in Philadelphia?
Oh, absolutely.
People come to Philadelphia.
What is the number one thing they want to see?
Is it Independence Hall?
Is it the Betsy Ross house?
They want to see the Liberty Bell.
They want to see Independence Hall.
Betsy Ross' house right here is a place they want to go to.
How old was she when she sewed the flag?
She would have been 24.
Something like that.
24 years old.
It's been a while since I had a cheesesteak at 10 a.m.
This is a big breakfast.
Although, I mean, I've definitely done it.
We ran in, fresh steaks.
We had filet.
We had Wagyu.
What else?
New York strip.
What else?
Prime rib.
We also have what?
Fresh what?
Fresh fries.
Caesar salad.
Caesar wrap.
Chicken Caesar wrap.
I have to do a classic.
You want a classic?
I want a classic.
Yes, please.
All right.
Here we go.
Classic.
Couple classics.
Here's your fries.
Beautiful.
Enjoy.
It's hot.
I can already tell.
I'm serious.
That's not TV talk.
It's good.
Welcome to the Philadelphia Art Museum.
All right, Will.
So, you took the tour of Philly today.
You had a cheesesteak.
But now you have to complete the visit with the tradition of running the Rocky Stairs.
Are you up to it?
Let's do it.
Hold on.
Do you need any of this after your cheesesteak?
Some Tums?
Need a Tums?
Some Tums before we head up?
Yeah.
Let's do it.
Rising up.
Well done.
Thank you, Philadelphia.
Thank you to the great Philadelphians behind me that have been welcoming me into this city.
