When Why How to Rotate Inline Skate Wheels 2

Welcome to the ultimate guide for rotating your wheels on inline skates. Today we're going to talk about why and when to rotate your wheels and more importantly I'm going to show you how to rotate your wheels for both a three-wheel skate and a four-wheel skate. Why do you need to rotate your wheels? When you go skating your wheels don't wear evenly so depending on your wheels, stopping habits, turning, terrain, skating style, every wheel is wearing down at a different rate. Inside wheels wear down faster than the outside wheels. That's because when you go skating and you're pushing and you're striding, the inside of your wheels are what's wearing down. Also if you do a lot of t-stops like me or you like to do power stops or power slides or sole slides or any kind of slides, the inside of your wheel is going to wear down much faster. The first and last wheel usually wear down faster than the middle wheel and then depending on your dominant foot that foot is going to wear down faster. So if you take a look at my skates my left foot is worn down so much more than my right foot. So if you never rotate your wheels one wheel or one side could become completely worn down and ruined while your other side and your other three wheels might have a lot of life left in them. Wheel rotation helps spread the wear of the wheels evenly across all the wheels. Benefits of rotating your wheels longer wheel life, smoother skating, better stability, more consistent performance, saving money because you're replacing your wheels less often. Also when you rotate your wheels more frequently it just gives you an opportunity to do routine skate maintenance like clean the inside of your frames, clean your bearings, change your bearings, check and make sure that you don't have a broken bearing. When should you rotate your wheels? And the answer is when you start to see them wearing down unevenly. You can't really over rotate unless you know you rotate your wheels and skate one time and then rotate them back before the uneven wear is visible. Even just the most little bit of uneven wear you're okay to rotate. I have a friend who the second he sees that uneven wear he rotates them and it's actually amazing to see how his wheels are wearing down just perfectly round, perfectly even. You don't need to do it that often but you should do it once it starts to get less round and more of an angle. You want round wheels for smooth skating. One thing I forgot to mention it's also a feeling you can feel when your wheels aren't rolling smoothly anymore. Personally that's when I rotate mine. So today I'm going to be rotating two different pairs of skates. One of my skates I'm rotating at the perfect time and arguably maybe even too early because you can barely even see the wear. The other skate I waited way too long and so these are two perfect examples of each end of the spectrum. Almost too early and definitely too late. If you guys remember I just recently put these 90s on my skates. We did it together. I made a video about it. You can just barely, barely, barely start to see the uneven wear. So it's not too early where it's not making any kind of difference but at the same time I could wait a little bit longer but for the sake of the video I'm going to go ahead and do it and just be really on top of it this time around. My 110s I waited too late. You can see these wheels are super angled and this is not ideal for skating. So if your wheels are starting to look angled instead of round it's time. How to rotate your wheels for a standard four wheel flat setup. This how-to is not going to work if your four wheel skate is rockered or anti-rockered. So if you guys want a tutorial on rotating wheels for a rockered or anti-rockered setup let me know. That could be a video for a different day. Tools you're going to need. A four millimeter allen. Step one. Use your When you take them off you want to line them up in the same positioning. First wheel. Wheel two. Wheel three. Wheel four. Place the skate down on the floor so I remember toe, middle, heel. Right skate first wheel. Second wheel. Wheel three. Last wheel. I'll put the rotation pattern up on the screen. You're swapping wheels one and three, two and four. That way the middle is now on the outside. The toe and heel will now be in the middle and we'll be swapping feet. The left foot will be going to the right. Right foot will be going to the left. And remember the inside wears down faster than the outside so the most important switch of rotating your wheels is making sure that the worn down inside is now on the outside. After I rotate them on the floor I'm going to flip them and that way I remember what wheel has already been rotated and it's a reminder that I'll be flipping them once they go on the skate. So the final step is just screwing them back into the skate. So remember the most important part of the wheel rotation comes when you're putting them back on. You want to be sure that the more worn down part of the wheel is now on the outside. Wheels usually have art or logos. When you buy your new skates the logos will always be on the outside of the skate. So first time you rotate the logo is going to be on the inside and I like to kind of use the logo and the art as a point of reference. The logo is now on the inside and the wear is now on the outside. Although you can't really see because it's just barely on these new wheels. How to rotate your wheels on a three wheel skate. This one's going to be a lot more dramatic because I waited way longer with these ones. Honestly I think I waited too long and you'll see why once I do it. Remove all the wheels and place them down in order. I told you guys one reason you want to rotate your wheels is to check in on your bearings and I didn't even do anything that crazy with them. If I didn't take these off to rotate my wheels I wouldn't have noticed. I'm just going to take a paper towel and see if any of this comes off. Oh wow it's just dirt it's not so much rust. This is a great example of why we rotate our wheels. Check in on your bearings. Check in on your parts. As before look at how nasty it is under there. This is a wheel from the left skate and this one might be too far gone. This wheel might actually be ruined. Even if I flip it and change feet I'm still skating on this slant. You want a round wheel. And then this is a wheel from the other side. So you see this one's just a little bit worn down but not too much. This wheel still has a lot of life left in it. If I had been rotating them regularly this wheel would have worn down at the same pace and my wheels would last a lot longer. The roundedness is okay the slant is questionable if the wheels are ruined. Now the rotation pattern for a three-wheel skate. We're going to swap wheels one and three and then we're going to swap the middle. Don't forget the more worn down side is now going to go on the outside. First skate's done. We're now rotated and ready to roll. Honestly I might have waited too long and I do have new wheels on the way. As far as the four-wheel skates go these are so ready to roll and I'm optimizing the wheel life and it feels really good to put in the time and maintenance. Wheel rotation is truly the best way to make your wheels last longer and your skates feeling great. A little bit of maintenance goes a long way. I hope this guide helped.
