Hey, I'm Lindsay and today I'm going to be trying every move in this video.
So they said they're going to teach me to stop at the drop of a dime
and I've been skating for 15 days and I need it. I can barely stop.
So she says you're going to pretend that the body is a hinge and you're going to
look and open the door and you're going to step and turn your head.
So keep your head facing this way and open and oh wow, she is jumping.
She went to the grass and she's just jumping. I guess I have to try that.
Okay. Okay, let's try this a little bit faster and a little bit harder, I guess.
It rained here. Gross.
Oh no. Okay, this is actually like, it's like really sturdy.
I don't feel like I'm on roller skates at all doing this.
The grass is a really solid place to practice.
Okay, her foot like kind of like trails behind. It's like cute. How do I do that? Yeah.
So it looks like now she's trying it from rolling because we're already there.
Okay, let's give this a shot.
Yeah, she's really leaving that leg trailing behind.
I'm so wobbly.
Oh, that was way better. I was doing the head thing that she did.
Okay. Okay, I think I'm going to try it a little faster now.
I forgot there's a whole stopping component to this.
I can't go too fast or else I just keep rolling.
Okay, she's doing multiple. Let's do multiple.
And the other way.
Technique just went way out the window for that one.
Left side. That was pretty good, right?
Okay, yeah, that head thing really helps to wait to look.
Think about opening your hips and really landing your heels. So I'm going to think about that.
Open those hips and land on your heels. Wow, that feels really scary.
Oh, that wasn't so bad.
Nailed it.
She says the next one is a jacuzzi type turn.
So we're using momentum and we're using our hips.
So it looks like they're kind of going like they're swimming.
Okay, let's try that with the swimming arm.
Picturing myself in a jacuzzi.
This one just feels way more sloppy than the other one did.
And let's try the left hand side.
That actually felt pretty normal.
I think I got that one. Yeah, I think I think we're good. Let's keep going.
Oh, she's doing almost both feet at the same time.
And they said the upper body goes and then the bottom feet follow.
Doing the feet at the same time.
That was a rough one.
Okay, I think I think we're good.
Oh, she's so cool. What the heck?
She's like turning into this cool thing.
We're definitely gonna try that.
She's like her knees bending and she's just like
be bopping around moving those hips like what the heck?
How do I become so cool?
Okay, let's try it. Let's try to make it look cool now.
I did not look cool.
She's just like with those hips.
How is she doing that?
She makes it look so smooth.
I don't think that was the right foot.
That's the dumbest fall.
I feel like I'm just hopping over something silly.
Like I saw a bug on the ground and I'm like
you know honestly I kind of forgot what I'm doing now.
I'm just kind of hopping around.
I'm trying to bend my knees.
It just doesn't look the same.
It doesn't look the same as his.
I think we'll go with that one.
We'll do that one.
That one's a good one.
We'll call that one a good one.
Said this one involves a little bit more gusto
so I'm a little bit afraid that this is going to be way too hard.
This is going to be way harder than the other ones.
Okay, this is another one where you're kind of jumping
and doing the whole thing at the same time.
One foot leaves a little bit before the other one
and then it lands a little bit before
and she said it also lands in front of the other one.
Let's try it.
Trying to make sure that my one foot lands in front of the other one.
This one feels more or less the same as the other one honestly.
Maybe this one's more up.
More up motion.
There she goes again with that combo.
She does them in a row and it's so cool.
What the heck?
I'm gonna try it.
I have to try it.
I have to try and make it look that cool.
It does not look cool but I'm kind of doing it.
Make sure that you finish exactly 180 degrees.
I think I'm doing that but I'm not sure.
So spot something.
Of course, like we were doing at the beginning.
Okay, we're gonna do this drill.
We're looking and we're gonna jump 180 degrees.
Those are good.
Those are good ones.
Okay, so we ran through three things.
I can kind of see the difference now.
Let's see if I can show a difference.
Number one.
Number two.
Moment is jumping.
Nailed it.
Okay, we're on to the stopping part.
The most important part.
She kind of was like going that and then she like flipped her feet over
and then she like did doot doot I think.
There's some foot action there that I definitely missed.
I'm gonna have to rewatch that part.
So she says after we do the turnaround, we're moving backwards
and then we apply pressure to the lead foot first.
Oh, what?
That was good, right?
Was that pretty good?
I think that was good.
That was not what I expected.
I did the wrong foot.
The back foot was supposed to be the one with the toe stopped down.
Not the front one.
Okay, let's try that one then.
Let's try this again.
The right way this time.
Turn.
Okay, and I kind of already stopped.
That, you know, I wasn't moving fast but that worked very effectively.
Okay, so it looks like Indie Jamma Jones does it like she does a super deep lunge
and she does like a one foot one foot turn.
So she does one foot one foot and then super deep lunge.
So let's try that one.
This, I think this is going to be effective.
This seems like a pretty good way of stopping.
I just went for that.
That one's better because I remember to do the, uh,
I remember to do the spotting thing where you look at the thing
and then you look 180 degrees the other way.
Wasn't right.
How do those look? Pretty good.
I think they're looking pretty good from, you know, first person point of view.
Okay, I like this one and I've tried this one before with the double toe stop,
double turnaround toe stop where you do that and you stick your hips out like this.
Do one of these.
You jump and you go and then you go.
Now let's add in the toe stop part.
Now in the video, they're all doing it in synchronized form as a group dance.
So I'm going to pretend like I'm there with them.
Now that we have it, we should test our efficiency by trying to stop on a specific spot.
Well, it's not that hard when my momentum is zero.
That was like literally the opposite of what they said to do.
Okay, so the last test is trying to stop on one toe stop.
She didn't mention it specifically, but she showed it in the video
and it looks so cool. So we're definitely trying that.
These are so sad.
Okay, from what I could tell in the video, she aggressively shot her foot diagonal back
and I'm just not sure if I'm willing to commit to that.
It's very scary.
Oh, that was a good one.
I'd say my commitment level on this is like a four out of ten.
Just a little commitment, not enough to actually pull it off.
This foot definitely has to go like that, but mine's going like that.
My toe is starting to hurt a little bit. I feel like I'm smashing it a lot.
That was a good one to end on.
I think I got it.
Not like super well, but like good enough to keep practicing, I think definitely.
But seriously, they are so awesome for making this tutorial.
Thank you so much to everybody who makes skating videos.
So beginners like me can learn.
You guys are the best.
Okay, I'll see you tomorrow.
