A long, long time ago, people discovered something—
every year, on this day,
something bad would happen.
They did not know why.
They only knew one thing—
this day was dangerous.

第二年：對抗（艾草誕生）
隔年，五月初五前夕，村民開始準備
青年從山中回來
手裡抱著一捆草
青年： 「我發現一種草，
蟲子不敢靠近。」
於是——
第二年端午，
人們開始在門口掛艾草。
家家戶戶門前都有艾草
(門外的危險，被擋住了一部分。)
Year Two: Fighting Back — The Birth of Mugwort
The following year, on the eve of the fifth day of the fifth lunar month,
the villagers began to prepare.
A young man returned from the mountains,
holding a bundle of grass in his arms.
The young man said,
“I found a kind of grass.
The insects dare not come near it.”
And so—
on the Dragon Boat Festival of the second year,
people began to hang mugwort by their doors.
Every household had mugwort hanging at the entrance.
The danger outside the door
was partly kept away.

第三年：發現（香包誕生）
母親：「門已經守住了……
為什麼你還是生病……」
他們發現——
門外可以擋，
但身體還是會生病。
一位女子從光中走出
身上帶著淡淡草香
白色衣服女子說:「氣在外，病在身。」「守門不夠，
還要守人。」「以香草入囊，隨身而佩。」
母親夢醒上山採草：艾草、菖蒲、白芷
將其曬乾、研碎、裝袋，細細縫好，繫在孩子胸前，
香氣慢慢散開，孩子醒了。
於是——
第三年端午，
人們開始佩戴香包。
Year Three: Discovery — The Birth of Fragrant Sachets
Mother said,
“The doorway has already been protected…
why are you still getting sick?”
Then they discovered—
the danger outside the door could be blocked,
but the body could still fall ill.
A woman walked out from the light,
carrying a faint herbal fragrance.
The woman in white said,
“The harmful air is outside,
but illness is within the body.”
“Guarding the door is not enough.
You must also guard the person.”
“Place fragrant herbs into a pouch,
and wear it close to the body.”
The mother woke from her dream
and went up the mountain to gather herbs:
mugwort, calamus, and angelica root.
She dried them in the sun,
ground them into powder,
placed them into a small pouch,
and carefully stitched it closed.
Then she tied it in front of the child’s chest.
The fragrance slowly spread,
and the child woke up.
And so—
on the Dragon Boat Festival of the third year,
people began to wear fragrant sachets.

第四年：理解（五彩繩）
「我們已經守住門，
也守住身體。」
「可是——人心，還在害怕。」
身體可以治癒，
但恐懼，還留在心裡。
老人從布袋中拿出五色絲線
紅、黃、藍、綠、白，在風中輕晃
老人說:「這不是普通的線。」
「天地之間，有五種力量——」
🔴「紅，是火」
🟡「黃，是土」
🔵「藍，是水」
🟢「綠，是木」
⚪「白，是金」
「東、西、南、北、中——
五個方向，守住世界。」
古人相信——
當天地平衡，人就會安定。
老人把繩子繫在孩子手上
「這不是用來擋病的——」
「是讓你記得——
你和天地在一起。」
那一刻——
恐懼，慢慢鬆開。
五彩繩——
不只是守護，
而是一種連結。
五彩繩，代表著——
🌿 五行的平衡
🌍 世界的方向
💛 生命的流動

於是，人們的心，
終於安定下來。
Year Four: Understanding — The Five-Colored Thread
“We have protected the doorway,
and we have protected the body.”
“But—
the human heart is still afraid.”
The body can be healed,
but fear remains in the heart.
An old man took five strands of silk thread
from his cloth pouch.
Red, yellow, blue, green, and white
swayed gently in the wind.
The old man said,
“This is no ordinary thread.”
“Between heaven and earth,
there are five kinds of power—”
🔴 “Red is fire.”
🟡 “Yellow is earth.”
🔵 “Blue is water.”
🟢 “Green is wood.”
⚪ “White is metal.”
“East, West, South, North, and Center—
the five directions protect the world.”
The ancient people believed—
when heaven and earth are in balance,
people can feel at peace.
The old man tied the thread
around the child’s wrist.
“This is not meant to block illness—”
“It is meant to help you remember—
you are connected with heaven and earth.”
At that moment—
the fear slowly loosened.
The five-colored thread—
was not only a symbol of protection,
but also a symbol of connection.
The five-colored thread represents—
🌿 the balance of the Five Elements
🌍 the directions of the world
💛 the flow of life
And so,
people’s hearts
finally became calm.

端午節誕生
從那一年開始——
每到五月初五，
人們都會做這三件事。
門：艾草
身：香包
手：五彩繩
村莊恢復生機
端午節，就這樣留下來。
The Birth of the Dragon Boat Festival
From that year on—
every time the fifth day of the fifth lunar month arrived,
people would do these three things.
At the door: mugwort
On the body: fragrant sachets
On the wrist: five-colored threads
The village came back to life.
And so,
the Dragon Boat Festival
was passed down through time.
