侗族魚腥草傳說
很久以前,宋朝的時候,曾經發生一場大洪水。
那一年夏天,大雨像水柱一樣不停落下。
河水暴漲,房屋被沖毀,田地被淹沒。
洪水退去後,沿河兩岸的侗族村民和牲畜,
都生了一種怪病。
大家整天拉肚子,身體虛弱,
卻不知道該怎麼辦。
The Dong People’s Legend of Houttuynia
Long ago, during the Song Dynasty, a great flood occurred.
That summer, heavy rain poured down like columns of water.
The rivers swelled, houses were washed away, and fields were submerged.
After the flood receded, the Dong villagers along the riverbanks and their livestock
were struck by a strange illness.
Everyone suffered from diarrhea all day and felt weak,
but no one knew what to do.

就在大家很害怕的時候,
白馬灘侗寨裡,
有一位張姓年輕人,手裡拿著一把魚腥草。
他對大家說:
也許這種草可以幫助大家。
村民們半信半疑,
但還是上山採了魚腥草。
把地下莖洗乾淨,
煮湯、拌著辣椒和薑一起吃。
沒想到——
大家的病竟然慢慢好了!
Houttuynia Saves the Villagers
Just when everyone was very afraid,
in the Baima Beach Dong Village,
a young man named Zhang appeared, holding a bunch of Houttuynia.
He said to everyone,
"Perhaps this herb can help you."
The villagers were skeptical,
but they still went up the mountain to gather Houttuynia.
They cleaned the underground stems,
cooked them into soup, and ate them with chili and ginger.
Unexpectedly—
everyone’s illness gradually began to improve!

藥食同源的智慧
後來大家才發現,
張家平常也會用魚腥草餵豬。
別人家的豬都生病,
只有他家的豬沒事。
所以他想到:
也許這種草能幫助身體恢復。
從那以後,
侗族人就很珍惜魚腥草。
一直吃到今天。
這就是中國傳統文化裡很重要的:
藥食同源
也就是:
食物,也可以照顧身體

Later, everyone discovered that
Zhang’s family often fed Houttuynia to their pigs.
While the pigs of other families fell ill,
only Zhang’s pigs remained healthy.
That gave him the idea:
perhaps this herb could help the body recover.
From then on,
the Dong people cherished Houttuynia,
and have continued to use it to this day.
This reflects an important concept in traditional Chinese culture:
“food and medicine share the same origin,”
which means:
food can also take care of the body.
