Brass Casting Custom Polished Coins From Scrap Rings

Brass Casting Custom Polished Coins From Scrap Rings

T
Trash To Treasure

In this video, I’m walking you through my entire brass casting process as I transform raw brass rings into polished custom coins. Using a Vevor electric furnace, I melt down the brass to a fully molten state, perfect for sand mold casting.

I’ll show you step-by-step how I create a two-part sand mold using green sand and a custom casting flask. You’ll see the techniques I use to achieve a clean imprint, including using talcum powder as a parting agent and carving out a precise sprue and vent to ensure the molten metal flows perfectly into the mold.

Watch the satisfying moment of the molten brass pour and the big reveal as we break open the flasks to see the raw casts. I then take these through a full finishing routine—cutting off the sprues with a hacksaw, using a belt sander for the edges, and finishing with a Dremel tool and a buffing wheel to achieve that signature mirror-polished brass look.

Whether you're into DIY metal casting, foundry work, or just love a good "trash to treasure" transformation, this video covers the highs and lows of being a hobbyist caster.
