Perhaps nowhere else boasts a craft village as unique as the gold leaf gilding village of Kieu Ky (Gia Lam District, Hanoi), with a rich tradition spanning over 400 years. According to the villagers, the founder of the craft was Mr. Nguyen Quy Tri, who practiced this trade from the early 17th century and passed it down. Today, about 50 families still practice this craft, and many have been recognized as artisans. Among them is artisan Le Ba Chung, who, after 34 years dedicated to the gilding craft, is one of the key figures in restoring and developing the gold leaf making craft in Kieu Ky village (Gia Lam District, Hanoi), providing employment for many rural workers. For his significant contributions, in 2004, Mr. Le Ba Chung was awarded the title of Hanoi Artisan by the Hanoi People's Committee. In 2016, he was awarded the title of Distinguished Artisan by the President of Vietnam.
