Mother-of-pearl inlay is a long-standing Vietnamese craft. From ancient times, this craft has flourished and established a firm foothold due to Vietnam's abundant raw materials and its advantageous location along the coastline. Chuon Ngo village in southern Hanoi is the cradle of Vietnamese mother-of-pearl inlay. In the past, most mother-of-pearl inlaid products were used in the royal court and by wealthy, high-status households.
