I mean truthfully my interests have always lied in very different genres
and I think the people that I've admired the most in my career have been people
who imbue their careers with versatility and so for me it's just
scratching the itch whether it's comedy or drama and there's plenty I still
haven't done and so you know look I grew up a big fantasy nerd I was a huge Lord
of the Rings fan and so the idea of getting to swing a sword around the
place was a pretty easy career choice I mean I feel like when you have so many
so much material at your fingertips it's kind of easy like I just dove into the
cartoon I was watching it every night I feel like everyone around me was so sick
of hearing the theme song over and over and over again playing in my house I had
to play I had to play it falling asleep every night it was just like this
constant theme song in my head and you know I watched Revelation I watched
Revolution I watched the 80s film like I just did as much as I could to immerse
myself in the world and Mattel was obviously super helpful and they sent
like a box of you know books and comics everything I could possibly get my hands
on so with that amount then of research and resources available that you
mentioned how do you make sure that you put your own in do you know what I mean
you put the Camila element in there totally I think so much of that was also
because of Travis Knight our director he obviously created such a vision in his
own world that we got to step into and he obviously wanted to honor the lore
that came before us but you know also give it its own fresh spin and so I
always I'm somebody who loves to stay true to material so I would always try
to like incorporate little details that I understood from the comics into my
work but ultimately I know that I bring my own set of qualities and traits to
the role that will just effortlessly be there because it's me embodying it you
know the fan base is so loyal and loving I think this is so nostalgic for people
and you can see how much love they have because it transports them back to a
time a very much simpler time so it's really special to see what this means to
people you know I have I have realized how global this is I think you know my
family's Brazilian and it's crazy to see how much it means to them and their
upbringing in Brazil and I didn't realize how how global the reach was so
when I told him I was doing this movie they were ecstatic they've never been
more excited about one of my projects before so I mean look you're gonna
remind yourself that this is all fiction it's a very famous cartoon so I didn't
really overthink it I felt like I'm gonna have some fun there's obviously a
change of ethnicity with Duncan and me playing it but I just saw you know what
this played a guy in the cartoons he was a solid guy with a solid mustache this
storylines really fun and there's a family element to it there's a lot of
comedy so I just try to enjoy myself in it when I I just kind of dove in it's a
cartoon it's a camp cartoon is a really big world and I thought you know what go
big or go home it's a mix you know I don't like to play a role that I've
already played I try and mix that up as much but I always want to challenge I
always want to challenge I think it's important to kind of sharpen the iron
you know I love what I do and I I love it the more complex it gets
