This video documents a journey to Komic, India's highest village in the Spiti Valley. It explores the extreme environmental challenges of living at 15,000 feet, the geological history of the Himalayas, and the biological adaptations of the locals. The narrative emphasizes the profound social unity and hospitality that sustain life in this harsh, high-altitude cold desert.
India's highest village is situated at such a great altitude.
because here the oxygen level is only half in comparison
So high a altitude that the temperature here is even lower than our refrigerator.
It's colder somewhere else.
Moreover, trees here cannot even survive at such great altitudes.
Therefore, the entire area here is a barren desert.
Yet, despite all these difficulties, a whole village has flourished here, thriving with life.
India's highest village is located in the beautiful state of Himachal Pradesh, India.
Where I'm about to go to find out how people live here.
But since this place is located at such a great height, the journey here takes not just a few hours, but several days.
And the only way is this road.
Even though I was doing it, I directly reached 9,000 feet from Delhi's 600-foot height on the very first day.
I have now arrived on the path leading to the highest village.
At this altitude, you begin to experience a lack of oxygen.
Here, I checked it, and my oxygen level is coming out to be 92.
My oxygen level has just come into the correct category.
But from here on, the oxygen will keep decreasing.
And along with it, the temperature as well.
Moreover, as we go higher and higher, even the landscape begins to change.
Trees are also beginning to decrease.
Soon thereafter, you reach a unique place—Spiti Valley.
I am also in the town of Kaza, located at an altitude of 11,000 feet here.
So, as I keep walking, I'm getting closer and closer to High S Village.
I'm going to check my oxygen level here and see what changes have occurred in my neighborhood.
11,000 feet is also a good altitude.
My oxygen level has dropped so low that I can't go any further.
But I still have to go even higher.
But after traveling a little further through these narrow alleys, I finally arrived.
To the highest village in India, located at an elevation of over 15,000 feet.
Its name is Comic.
So, after traveling such a long journey, finally, finally, I have arrived at India's highest peak.
There are some houses in Kinthi, and all of them are mud houses.
And right now, when winter is at its most dangerous peak, everything here is frozen solid.
If you leave it in the room, in the room's water, it freezes in the water.
It's so cold that the entire pipeline is frozen.
So, an ordinary oxygen cylinder, no pedo, and in such extreme cold.
What I mean is, everything about this place indicates clearly that humans simply cannot live in a location like this.
Yet people have been living here all along.
They are not surviving; they are, in a way, thriving.
They are doing here every kind of work that is so difficult, whether it is farming or anything else, any kind of task.
How is it possible for these people to endure such extremely difficult circumstances?
I'm going to stay here for a few days to find that out.
Yet, this altitude is so high that Comic Village ranks among the highest settlements not only in India but also worldwide.
Among the list, two villages from India are also included.
And the highest settlement in the world is La Rinconada in Peru, which lies at an elevation of 16,000 feet.
Yet, some people have also made these lofty heights their home.
I will be staying at this beautiful Mardha House with a family, so as to get to know closely the life of those people.
All the houses here look exactly the same, and this is no coincidence—there is a specific reason why they are designed this way.
There is very strong sunlight here, so the walls reflect it, which is why the entire house is painted white.
It might be dry, but water is essential for survival—where would that come from? And how could water be preserved in places where everything around is frozen?
Well, by fortune, there's a stream in this village, fed by water from the Kleshar, and since it comes up from beneath the ground, it never freezes. But you still have to walk some distance from your home to reach the water, carrying 20-30 liter cans.
And for such cans, you have to go through several cycles during the day; even if they're just slightly moving here, the lids quickly get hot, that's for sure, and these people are absolutely six-screwed, they just keep getting hotter and hotter.
Yes, this is Auntie Shop Kamala. Tell me, what do these people eat?
Those who still manage to climb so high with such ease,
So let's see, what's special about eating here to survive?
This is the paneer until then.
What is yak cheese?
Gai's cheese is here.
How does it become like that?
This is delicious.
Smyle is the same as me, don't mind
As it is sung
Nothing good outside to look at
So, watching the outside show, this is Chirul.
A lot of things are mixed together in it.
It's already been settled, that's for sure.
You will celebrate the festival with Barle.
The cheese has become cow's milk.
And this is pure ghee made from cow's milk.
Then this sugar
All of this combined makes this paste.
Chirul, who is going there
And he is extremely powerful in Akshul.
And only after eating this is when these people get back
They go to the field for farming and other work in the morning.
Let's test it and see how it is.
One thing is these turmeric items
Why isn't the patani test taken?
But besides this food and this house
There is also something else here
They make life possible
These animals here
Including yaks, cows, and donkeys
And every single animal's
In their lives
It is an important part.
Sheep and yaks
The donkey is up there at the height
They are used for similar purposes.
Even their cow dung
It is very important for these people
Because it is this very dung
After drying in the sun
They use this to burn in the brazier.
The one on which food is cooked
And because of this, the house also stays warm.
Because there's nothing to burn here
There are no trees.
And not their sticks
Before nightfall
These animals too
It is kept inside the house.
Because the cold nights here are freezing
It's difficult for them too.
Now even for such large animals
It's hard to stay cool.
So how am I going to spend the night here?
You're big behind me right now
It will begin
It becomes very beautiful
A whole village from the beginning
It has already started.
It's getting very late.
But if it starts, it will keep going
A back that is becoming rice
It's cold.
It's getting increasingly colder, bit by bit.
I don't know how much colder it's going to get here.
So high a level of ultratone, such a thing
So tonight I will be sleeping right here in this room.
So what happens is that even here
Below my bad one
The bed is woolen.
Which keeps retaining a considerable amount of heat.
After that, there is a blank page.
Another blanket after that
And then, after that, there's a quilt.
And that's not the only thing that's troubling.
After that, there is another quilt.
And it's really necessary to have so many of these here
Because there is no beggar in this room
Nothing at all
So you're only dependent on your own heat.
To search here
It feels really heavy, like someone has
He piled a huge amount of burden on me.
Bye, good night
How cold did the temperature get here at night?
You don't need to tell me in great detail.
When I was sleeping here at night
And was breathing
So the mood that comes out with the breath
It is completely frozen over all the windows.
Not even from outside
Look inside, this is ice
How much colder is the temperature here?
The entire thing is completely frozen.
Well, this cold can't keep me indoors.
Finding out India's highest village
How did it finally become?
Because it's just ten kilometers from here.
There is a place that sits hiding the story of its own making.
This is a very beautiful village, Langja.
These views are indeed priceless.
But there's something else hidden in its ground as well.
Because this land contains certain kinds of stones
Something similar to animals that live in the sea
Because crops of this kind are found here
which belong to marine animals
But how on earth did they end up here in the mountains?
Well, they didn't come here.
Rather, these are even older than these mountains themselves.
Because millions of years ago, this entire area was once a sea known as the Dead Sea, located between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate.
However, as time passed, the Indian Plate moved upward, colliding with the Eurasian Plate, causing the ocean floor to crumple and fold, thus giving rise to the mountains we now call the Himalayas.
The same force that shaped India's highest village and the entire Himalayas has transformed the once-living creatures of the sea into these fossils.
And this is truly very fascinating—I've only heard about this in stories until now, but today I'm actually seeing the proof with my own eyes. What a beautiful thing, man.
And thus was born this most beautiful hill here, Chau Chau Kang Nilde.
Its height exceeds 20,000 feet, and seeing this mountain will truly make you feel it is incredibly beautiful and special—and it truly is.
This is not just a festival for the people here; it is worshipped.
Because this hill is a blessing from Buddha for the people who live here.
Because this very mountain supplies water to the surrounding villages in this cold desert for twelve months a year.
And the point is that this valley all around is so beautiful.
Meaning, Buddha Ji is getting to see such a beautiful view.
Have you ever thought about how we experience different emotions in videos?
Sometimes peaceful, sometimes exciting, sometimes sad.
But how is all this possible?
With music.
That's why in the video I focus a lot on music.
I focus on Epidemic Sound so I can easily find music for every emotion.
Because here I don't need to search for music.

Try it, and then see how storytelling improves.
I understand how this came about, but here there's also something that makes it clear the place is still changing today.
Bro, what the hell is this, man? Should I call it Moonland, Marsland, or what? I have no idea at all.
Because it's about meaning, isn't it? How on earth could that possibly work, man.
When you see me walking over these, you'll get an idea of its scale—how many towering, towering rock formations there are in actuality.
When water and air together transform these mountains into such fascinating shapes, such formations arise.
It is, in a way, the gradual wearing away or erosion of the soil of these mountains.
Sometimes you'll even see a mushroom-like structure, man, so how could it possibly be.
Amazing, dude, nature is truly amazing. When nature decides to create art, it produces such incredible masterpieces.
But how have these people been living for centuries in India's highest village, where even the mountains are breaking down under this climate and altitude?
This Raj is hidden within these people's backyard, because these individuals are not merely acclimatized to this place, but over the years, step by step, their backyard has evolved in a way entirely different from ours—far superior to ours.
They demonstrate efficiency, as they do not require nearly as much oxygen as my grandmother does, and due to this evolution, they are no longer merely human—they have become superhumans, having lived for years at such extremely high altitudes here.
But it's not just their enclosure; ours too can slope down somewhat at this altitude.
You have to pass urine repeatedly, so it's also necessary that your bladder is adjusting to this, but now what's your task? You need to maintain the water loss from frequent urination in your bladder, so you must drink a lot of water.
If you wish, you can divide that travel into two or three days, so your stay will be more comfortable.
If you get the right time to acclimatize, all you need to do is that—everything else will be taken care of by your own efforts; it will know what to do.
The amazing thing is that right here at High Street Village, near Comic's, there is also the world's highest post office.
This beautiful village in Khik Kim has a post office that holds the title in the Guinness Book of World Records — the world's smallest post office.
Isn't it a huge deal, man? This is the world's highest post office located right here in India, buddy.
So, sending the letter by post is necessary, isn't it?
That is the case because India Post is the largest postal network in the world.
Has already connected this remote area to the world even before the arrival of mobile networks here.
Therefore, this post office in Gaun has been there for over 40 years today.
But right now I'm about to be part of a special ceremony, heading back to Comic Village
Now, since there are only 12 houses in Ginti in the High Street
So, if there's a puja or any function at someone's place, the entire village becomes a part of it.
As there is a prayer ceremony at this house today, everyone is coming together and actively contributing to every task within this family.
What are you all doing? Making prasad.
Okay, is this a milkshake? A homemade milkshake, in desi style?
What is the meaning of creating and the void? Creating is the void, the essence is.
How can one possibly resist the temptation to make a desi shake? This desi shake
Joki was very tasty, excellent.
And some people at home were washing dishes, their hands moving back and forth.
But the question is, how are the utensils surviving in such cold water from these chilly faucets?
Well, this is amazing.
This is an instant water heater, in a way.
What have they done in this?
It is attached to a funnel here.
So all the guests have come in large numbers.
And all the guests together prepare the meal.
Then all of them eat together.
The most amazing thing is that it's increasing the most.
That they would not return home even after doing everything.
But they all come together and carry the utensils together.
And after cleaning, they go back to their respective homes.
So now you've washed the dishes
Now clean up and then go back to your respective homes.
It has been brought here.
They don't leave the entire burden of all the work on just one house.
I mean, dude, how big a deal is this? What level is the Unity here?
You weren't found anywhere among the cities, all in sight
And as I said, the unity of these people truly inspired me.
Before turning back from here
Stopped in the village of Kalpa, located on the road to Maspithi Valley, by a special festival
So, the last time I came to Kalpa
The one I made in the last video is Kalpa's.
So I went inside a house.
The house he went into had an aunt there.
Those who gave me a Himalayan hat as a gift like that
And then I had told them that whenever I return again
I'll bring some gifts for them.
So then today I've brought something with me
I don't know, maybe they'll meet.
Will we meet, or what will happen?
I haven't been to their house yet.
This is the aanga, it is like this, and it will be 3 years after this.
And, I haven't reached Xi yet, nor will I ever reach him.
So I see, going to the kitchen, what happens to oneself at home?
Hey? Where is the girl who was here just now?
You've taken big patches, haven't you?
Welcome home
Okay, you've already moved house. I couldn't find the house you mentioned.
You will have to watch it on YouTube
Where is everyone going?
I realized I should have recognized it after seeing it on YouTube.
Isn't he a good fellow?
That is it
Is it Laloo?
It's Lalu.
That would be very large indeed.
Good afternoon, Auntie Ji. I promised you I'd bring some gifts.
So this is the gift.
Here you go, here you go
You'll be fine.
I don't know whether it's been liked, liked, whether people have liked the entire song
Now that I've returned here, it's become clear to me—I've finally emerged. I'm not alone in this.
Many people are being deceived.
And that is precisely what makes visiting these distant, remote places so special.
People inevitably become fewer the farther you come here.
But unity and closeness also increase.
Perhaps precisely for this reason, even amidst such difficult circumstances, these places remain vibrant with life today.
So alive that anyone who comes here on a journey doesn't just find a destination, but also a home away from home.
