A New Black Clay — Glazing, Firing & Results!
Here those new black clay tests, finally reduction fired to cone ten! I'm sorry there's been such a long wait, during my last making cycle I produced far too many pots and the glazing they all required ate up FAR more time than I imagined, but I'm finally getting them all through the kiln.
As you may know, lately, I've been on a long, and so far unrewarding, search for a new black clay and glaze combination that work well together. It's trickier than it sounds, as black stonewares at these temperatures can be troublesome, they bubble and bloat and slump and warp and so far, I've not had the best of luck... There's been the odd success but nothing that's ticked every box, yet perhaps that's the issue, I'm being too critical in what I'm seeking.
In this weeks video, I'm biscuit firing, waxing, glazing and glaze firing these black clay tests. If you'd like to watch HOW these pots were made in far greater detail, the throwing and the trimming, you can find that here: • Testing a New Black, 'Schwarz' Stoneware C...
Thanks so much for watching and DO let me know what you think.
