New tonight, a piece of heavy equipment involved in a slow speed police chase in Millbury.
The driver tonight is in a load of trouble.
Boston 25 News Reporter Christine McCarthy takes us there.
Hours after the chaos in what's typically a quiet Millbury neighborhood, the front end
loader was towed here to this lot, where I'm told it sits on a hold as police continue
to investigate.
There's actually five cruises, some knucklehead.
Just feet from where Kim Jones was having a peaceful Saturday night in front of the
TV, suddenly a lot of commotion.
Saw a couple cruises and a big loader.
My first thought was construction, 9.30 at night, like, you know, what are you doing?
It was the finale of a low speed pursuit by police.
A caller had reported the operator of this front end loader was driving erratically on
Route 20 eastbound.
In fact, another driver gave us this dash cam video showing a loader between lanes on
the highway.
They said that this one was for the books.
It was very odd.
Millbury police located the loader on a side street where they say the operator refused
to stop, driving just 10 to 15 miles per hour, swerving into oncoming traffic, nearly striking
multiple utility poles.
He's all over the road.
And he had the loader up at first and would stop trying to wave me around him.
I turned on my light.
He put the loader down and is now just driving all over the road.
An officer finally positioned their cruiser and stopped the machine, but police say the
operator refused to get out.
They were yelling at the guy to get out, and he wasn't complying.
He was fiddling around in there, shutting it off, and he still wasn't getting out, and
they helped him out and arrested him.
Police say 21-year-old Kelvin Euclid Flores of Worcester was eventually arrested.
What led up to the unusual incident remains unclear.
I was wondering where the heck he came from, you know, if it was stolen or if he was drunk.
Who does that?
Police say the operator faces a number of charges.
The case is still under investigation.
On scene in Millbury, Christine McCarthy for your local station, Boston 25 News.
